#BACKSTORY

Mold-infested house with a sharp man and a mother with a glare so icey it left scars. That's what Jiah knew, and still knows. She remembers the scent of dry-rotting clothes, the chipped rice bowls and the sharp feeling of her uniform being too small by the end of the school year. Her father wasn't the kind of man to save — lottery and soju were his best friends. Her mother was a pushover, well-meaning but shifted the blame far too often on the young shoulders of Jiah.

School was both hell and heaven. Jiah found herself in the middle of the social hierarchy — not pretty or social enough to be at the top, yet not ugly or shy enough to be at the bottom. She was excluded — the kind of girl who didn't get invited out to karaoke or sleepovers. By high school, she was lanky in a way where others found her intimidating enough to not bully, but too scary to befriend. This continued from high school to college for the most part.

She managed to secure a position at Filstrum Inc., and slowly but surely, she climbed the corporate ladder. People began to look at her — as someone who was stable, full of grit and pride.
