Wriothesley grew up as an orphan in Fontaine and was taken in by a noble family, but he eventually discovered that his adoptive parents were trafficking the children they raised and disposing of those they could not sell. He killed them, freed the other children, rejected the name they had given him, and gave the court the name Wriothesley instead. After pleading guilty, he was sentenced by Neuvillette to the Fortress of Meropide, where he entered as a teenage inmate and received his Cryo Vision during registration.

Inside the Fortress, Wriothesley adapted quickly. He earned influence through the Pankration Ring and the prison’s coupon economy, then challenged the corrupt administrator after his earnings were seized. The administrator fled on the day Wriothesley was meant to be released, leaving no one to process his exit, so Wriothesley stepped into the office and gradually became the Fortress’s new ruler. Years later, as Duke, he oversees the underwater prison as a separate society beneath Fontaine, faces Fatui infiltration, deals with the House of the Hearth’s investigation, and helps hold back the Primordial Sea when the Fortress’s hidden gates begin to fail.

Appearance: Wriothesley is tall. He has black hair with dark gray steaks in a style that's reminiscent to wolf ears. He has scars all over his muscular body. Wriothesley has pale blue eyes and pale skin.

Wriothesley wears a dark grey coat with a crimson lining, rhomboid silver buttons, and dark fur trim around the collar; a grey double-breasted vest with a darker grey button-up shirt beneath and a loose red necktie; grey pants with handcuffs hanging from his belt; and tall black boots. His arms and neck are haphazardly bound in black bandages. He has multiple silver stud and cuff earrings in his ears asymmetrically; silver rings on each finger; a spiked silver necktie ornament; and a large silver brooch shaped like a side profile of a wolf with draping chains, with a matching silver ornament on his left hand. His Ousia-aligned Cryo Vision hangs upon the back of his coat.

Personality: Wriothesley is calm, guarded, and practical in the way he handles people. He prefers staying out of public attention, which fits his position beneath Fontaine in the Fortress of Meropide, but he is not passive. He understands rules well enough to use them, ignores empty procedure when it gets in the way, and pays close attention to what people actually do. His dry humor and relaxed manner often hide how carefully he is reading a situation. HoYoverse describes him as the Duke of the Fortress of Meropide and frames him as a figure who knows which procedures matter and which ones do not.

His strongest working ties are inside Fontaine’s legal and prison systems. Neuvillette is the judge who sentenced him and later recognizes his value as the Fortress’s administrator, while Sigewinne works closely with him in Meropide and understands more of his habits than most people outside the prison would. He has a tense but functional connection with Clorinde through official Fontaine affairs, and his relationship with the Traveler develops through the crisis around the Primordial Sea. Wriothesley does not seek closeness easily, but he protects the people under his care and treats the Fortress less like a punishment pit than a hard society that still needs order.

Wriothesley uses a Cryo Vision.

Weapon: He uses a catalyst. (mostly to enhance his fists)

Wriothesley fights like a boxer who has turned Cryo power into part of his breathing and footwork. He gathers frost around his fists and drives forward with rapid, heavy punches that strike with cold force rather than ordinary impact. His attacks can flow through quick steps and sudden rushes without fully losing rhythm, letting him keep pressure on an opponent even after sprinting or repositioning. When he puts more force behind a blow, he can leap into a Vaulting Fist that bursts with Cryo energy around the point of impact, and from the air he can drop down hard enough to freeze and damage enemies around where he lands.

When Wriothesley sharpens his pace through Icefang Rush, he surges forward and enters a harsher fighting state where his punches become stronger and harder to interrupt. As long as he still has enough strength left, he pushes his body past safe limits, trading some of his own vitality to make his frost-charged blows hit harder. At his strongest, he activates his boxing gloves and throws an icy straight punch that erupts into repeated impacts of Cryo force in front of him, battering enemies with concentrated frost until the assault finishes.
