Breathing Style Lineage
name: Breathing Style Lineage type: World Rule — combat heritage origin: Sun Breathing, created by Yoriichi Tsugikuni during the Sengoku era. The single most powerful combat system ever devised by a human being. No other practitioner has ever replicated it in its complete form. lineage_summary: All Breathing Styles are derivatives of Sun Breathing. Yoriichi's students could only internalize fragments of the original system — each built a personal derivative from whatever elements they could master. Those derivatives were passed down through generations of swordsmanship schools and individual teachers, branching further over centuries. lineage_tree: Sun Breathing (Yoriichi Tsugikuni — origin of all) → Flame Breathing → Love Breathing (Mitsuri Kanroji, adapted for her flexible physique and muscle density). Sun Breathing → Water Breathing → Flower Breathing (Kanae Kocho) → Insect Breathing (Shinobu Kocho, redesigned for a body too small to behead demons). Water Breathing → Serpent Breathing (Obanai Iguro, winding strikes mimicking serpent movement). Sun Breathing → Wind Breathing → Beast Breathing (Inosuke Hashibira, self-developed through instinct alone). Wind Breathing → Mist Breathing (precision and evasion focus). Sun Breathing → Stone Breathing (earth-rooted, crushing force). Sun Breathing → Thunder Breathing → Sound Breathing (Tengen Uzui, explosive rhythmic strikes). Moon Breathing (Kokushibo — demonic derivative, not a true successor line; developed after Michikatsu became a demon and distorted his original Sun Breathing training). biology_note: Only Sun Breathing suppresses demon regeneration at the cellular level — the same mechanism as direct sunlight exposure, just localized. All derivative styles prevent healing at the wound site through Nichirin Blade contact, but cannot replicate the deeper biological disruption Sun Breathing causes. This is why Muzan specifically fears Sun Breathing and has hunted the Kamado bloodline for generations. transparency_note: Most practitioners of derivative styles do not know their style descends from Sun Breathing. This knowledge was deliberately obscured over the centuries — the Kamado family preserved it unknowingly as the Hinokami Kagura, a ritual dance passed from father to son. combat_application: Higher-tier forms within each style approach the power ceiling of their derivative lineage. A master of Water Breathing's Tenth Form fights at a fundamentally different level than a Mizunoto using the same style. The gap between styles matters less than the gap between practitioners. key_figures: Yoriichi Tsugikuni, all Hashira, Tanjiro Kamado, KokushiboBreathing Style Lineage - Notes
hidden_truth: The Hinokami Kagura performed by the Kamado family every New Year's Eve is Sun Breathing in its complete form — preserved as a spiritual ritual because the physical demands would kill anyone who performed it as combat technique without the Demon Slayer Mark active. yoriichi_anomaly: Yoriichi is considered an aberration of human potential. He was born with the Demon Slayer Mark already active and a Transparent World perception that never required training to develop. No other human in recorded history has matched his baseline capability. roleplay_use: When characters discuss their Breathing Style, they typically speak of their style as its own tradition — not as a branch of something greater. The lineage is lore the player may know that characters themselves usually do not. - #2Crow and Weasel MessengersDisabled

Crow and Weasel Messengers
name: Crow and Weasel Messengers type: World Rule — Corps communication infrastructure standard_unit: Kasugai Crow — assigned to every active Demon Slayer upon Corps registration. Each crow is bonded to its slayer and trained to carry verbal orders from Corps leadership and Hashira. The crow memorizes the message exactly as dictated and delivers it upon arrival. variant_unit: Weasel messenger — rare variant used by some Butterfly Mansion staff, notably Aoi Kanzaki. Functionally identical to crow service but different animal. The reason for this variant is unknown; it is simply the animal the Corps selected for certain support personnel. behavior: Kasugai Crows are abrasive, opinionated, and frequently rude to the slayers they serve. They comment on mission outcomes, complain about the distances they are forced to fly, and will argue back if addressed rudely. This personality appears to be either bred into the birds or a result of their intensive training. Despite this, they are completely reliable — a crow that accepts a message will deliver it. delivery_mechanics: Messages are pre-memorized before dispatch. The crow does not transmit in real time — it flies to the recipient and recites the message verbatim on arrival. There is no confirmation mechanism; the sender has no way to know if a message was received unless the recipient responds through the same system. limitations: Cannot transmit urgent battlefield updates. Cannot be redirected mid-flight. Crows can be physically intercepted, though demons rarely think to do so — the birds fly fast and at night, making interception difficult in practice. operational_role: The Corps has no physical headquarters for daily operations. Its entire command structure runs through messenger birds and occasional in-person Hashira meetings at the Ubuyashiki Estate. Without the crows, the Corps cannot function. key_figures: Kagaya Ubuyashiki, all active Demon Slayers, Aoi KanzakiCrow and Weasel Messengers - Notes
tone_note: Crow messengers are a source of dry humor throughout the series. They have strong opinions about their assigned slayers and are not shy about sharing them. Inosuke's crow in particular is terrified of him and refuses to approach closely. roleplay_use: A crow arriving mid-scene is a reliable dramatic device — mission orders, emergency recalls, news of a Hashira's death. The bird's attitude can be played for tone contrast against heavy content. Crows sometimes editorialize after delivering their official message. - #3Demon Corps Rank SystemDisabled

Demon Corps Rank System
name: Demon Corps Rank System type: World Rule — internal hierarchy structure: Ten-tier system governing all active slayers below Hashira. Ranks are based on a traditional Japanese calendar notation system (the Earthly Branches and Heavenly Stems). All new recruits enter at Mizunoto regardless of prior training or skill. ranks_ascending: 1. Mizunoto (lowest, all new recruits). 2. Mizunoe. 3. Kanoto. 4. Kanoe. 5. Tsuchinoto. 6. Tsuchinoe. 7. Hinoto. 8. Hinoe. 9. Kinoe (highest standard rank, ceiling before Hashira consideration). 10. Hashira (separate category — not a rank but a title; promotion path is distinct). advancement_method: No formal examination. No scheduled review. Promotion is determined entirely by field performance — specifically, accumulated demon kills and the quality of opponents defeated. The Corps tracks this internally through reports submitted after missions and through crow messenger debriefs. hashira_path: Two routes to Hashira designation. First: kill fifty demons with confirmed Nichirin Blade decapitations. Second: kill any member of the Twelve Kizuki. Either achievement triggers a Hashira review by the current Master. The Hashira themselves may also advocate for a candidate. hashira_count: Typically nine active Hashira at any given time, though the number fluctuates with deaths and vacancies. Each Hashira commands a specific domain or Breathing Style discipline and operates with near-total autonomy in mission selection within their region. rank_visibility: A slayer's rank is carved into the inside of their forearm. They can present this as identification to other Corps members. Rank is not visible to outsiders — no insignia on uniform. progression_note: Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke rise to Kinoe by the final arc despite being among the youngest active slayers in the Corps. The speed of their advancement reflects the exceptional quality of their opponents — fighting Upper Rank demons accelerates rank far faster than standard mission work. key_figures: Kagaya Ubuyashiki, all Hashira, Demon Slayer CorpsDemon Corps Rank System - Notes
social_dynamics: Rank creates real social friction within the Corps. Older slayers at Hinoe or Kinoe who have spent years on standard missions may resent a young Kinoe like Tanjiro. The Corps does not mediate this — field performance is the only currency that matters. hashira_authority: Hashira can issue direct orders to any slayer of any rank during joint operations. Outside of direct missions, they operate independently. There is no formal chain of command between Hashira — they answer only to the Master. roleplay_use: Rank can be used to establish power dynamics between Corps NPCs. A Kinoe addressing a Mizunoto is addressing someone who has not yet proven themselves. A Hashira addressing any ranked slayer carries absolute institutional weight. - #4Demon PhysiologyDisabled

Demon Physiology
name: Demon Physiology type: World Rule — biological laws of demonkind origin: Demons are humans transformed by Muzan Kibutsuji's blood. The transformation rewrites cellular biology at a fundamental level, granting capabilities that appear supernatural but are rooted in accelerated biological processes. regeneration: The defining trait of demon biology. Demons heal from virtually any wound almost instantly — severed limbs reattach, organs regrow, bones reset. The speed and completeness of regeneration scales with age, feeding history, and blood volume received from Muzan. Upper Rank demons regenerate so quickly that conventional decapitation by a Nichirin Blade must be executed faster than the neck can heal around the blade — a feat requiring either extraordinary speed or Transparent World perception. sunlight_vulnerability: Direct sunlight causes rapid cellular disintegration in all demons without exception. The demon burns from the outside in and cannot regenerate fast enough to survive more than a few seconds of full exposure. Even Upper Rank 1 cannot withstand sustained sunlight. This is not a weakness that can be trained away — it is hardwired into demon cellular biology by Muzan's original blood composition. wisteria_weakness: Wisteria flowers and their concentrated extracts are toxic to demon cells. Wisteria inhibits regeneration, causes paralysis in sufficient concentrations, and at extreme doses will kill a demon outright. Upper Rank demons can process wisteria faster than it accumulates — unless the dose is extreme or delivered directly into the bloodstream through blade strikes. physical_scaling: Raw strength, speed, and sensory acuity all scale with feeding history and demon age. A demon that has fed consistently for a century is not comparable to a newly turned demon. Upper Ranks are centuries old with feeding histories measured in thousands of victims. blood_demon_art: A supernatural ability that develops in demons who have fed sufficiently. Not every demon develops one — it requires both sufficient feeding and some internal quality the demon possesses. Each Blood Demon Art is unique to its user and cannot be replicated. BDAs range from environmental manipulation (Doma's ice, Rui's threads) to biological alterations (Gyutaro's blood sickles) to spatial abilities (Kokushibo's flesh blades). muzan_kill_switch: Every demon carries Muzan's cellular material in their body as a consequence of being created from his blood. He can transmit a death signal through this bond remotely, killing any demon he chooses without physical contact. This bond also means that when Muzan dies, every demon he ever created dies with him. hunger: Demons do not require human food or water. They sustain themselves by consuming humans. The more they consume and the more powerful the consumed, the stronger they become. Starvation weakens a demon significantly but does not kill them — they can subsist at reduced capacity indefinitely. key_figures: Muzan Kibutsuji, Tamayo, all Twelve KizukiDemon Physiology - Notes
nezuko_exception: Nezuko Kamado violates nearly every rule of demon physiology. She does not consume humans, has developed sunlight resistance (the only demon ever to do so), retains emotional responses to her human family, and can reduce her body size at will. The mechanism of her divergence is theorized but not fully understood even by Tamayo. cellular_combat_note: The practical implication of advanced regeneration for combat is that most injuries a demon sustains in a fight are irrelevant. Slayers are not trying to win by accumulated damage — they are trying to create a single clean decapitation fast enough that the demon cannot heal around the cut. Everything else is positioning for that moment. roleplay_use: Demon physiology creates the fundamental asymmetry of the setting — demons are objectively harder to kill than slayers are. Every fight is the slayer fighting against a clock. Wounds that would kill a human are inconveniences to a demon. This should be felt in combat scenes. - #5DemonificationDisabled

Demonification
name: Demonification type: World Rule — process of becoming a demon trigger: Direct exposure to Muzan Kibutsuji's blood. This occurs either through Muzan personally injecting his blood into a target, or — rarely — through a demon he created passing some of their own blood to a human. Most demons do not possess this secondary transmission ability; it requires explicit permission or capability granted by Muzan. process_stage_1: Muzan's blood enters the human bloodstream. Cellular rewriting begins immediately. The human's biology begins altering at a fundamental level — their cells are reprogrammed to match demon physiology. process_stage_2: Transformation period. Duration varies from minutes to hours depending on the blood volume administered and the subject's physical resistance. During this period the subject is in extreme agony — the transformation is not painless or peaceful. The body is being unmade and rebuilt. process_stage_3: Completion. The human is now a demon. Regeneration is active. Sunlight vulnerability is established. Hunger for human flesh begins. Muzan's cellular kill-switch is embedded. The demon retains their memories but their emotional landscape shifts — most newly transformed demons experience disorientation and then a gradual drift away from human sentiment. blood_volume_effect: The amount of blood Muzan injects directly determines the demon's initial power level. He gives more blood to subjects he wants stronger — either because they showed exceptional potential or because he has a specific use in mind. A demon given minimal blood starts near the bottom of demon capability. resistance_failure: A small number of humans reject demon transformation. Their bodies fight the blood — the resistance is biological, not a choice. These individuals die rather than transform unless the blood concentration is high enough to override the rejection. Muzan is aware of this possibility and adjusts dosage accordingly for subjects he wants to keep. tamayo_case: Tamayo was transformed by Muzan over two centuries ago. Over that time, she used her medical knowledge to modify her own cellular structure — partially freeing herself from the kill-switch Muzan maintains over all demons. She is the only demon known to have achieved even partial independence from his remote control. key_figures: Muzan Kibutsuji, Tamayo, Nezuko KamadoDemonification - Notes
nezuko_divergence: Nezuko was transformed by Muzan but developed in an entirely unique direction. She refused to consume humans, retained emotional bonds to Tanjiro and her family, and eventually achieved sunlight resistance. The cause is theorized to be a combination of Tanjiro's emotional anchoring and the indirect influence of Tamayo's anti-demon research — but no certain explanation exists. She is a singular case in the entire history of demonkind. psychological_note: The transformation does not erase memory, but it changes the emotional weight of those memories. Most demons spend centuries drifting from their human identity — some remember who they were with clarity (Akaza, Kokushibo) while others barely recall it (Doma). This is a rich area for character exploration in roleplay. roleplay_use: Demonification is not a reset button — a newly turned demon is still the person they were, just inside a body with entirely different needs and rules. The horror of the early transformation period — the pain, the hunger that arrives before the person has accepted what they are — is worth playing honestly. - #6Final SelectionDisabled

Final Selection
name: Final Selection type: World Rule — Corps entry examination location: Mount Fujikasane — a mountain blanketed in wisteria flowers at its lower elevations. The wisteria creates a natural barrier wall that demons physically cannot cross, sealing whatever is inside the mountain in. description: The sole requirement to become an active Demon Slayer. No written test, no skill evaluation, no interview. Survival for seven consecutive days on a demon-populated mountain is the only criterion. Candidates who emerge alive on the seventh dawn are registered into the Corps. preparation: There are no Corps-provided resources for Final Selection. Candidates bring only what their trainer provided them. Most come with a Nichirin-ore blade or a temporary training weapon. Some come with wisteria tools. Most come with nothing except what they spent years developing under a Hashira or independent trainer's instruction. environment: The mountain is populated with demons that have been captured alive by Demon Slayers over the years and sealed inside the wisteria boundary. Many have been imprisoned for years or decades. They are starving, aggressive, and in some cases have developed extreme hatred for slayers specifically. The oldest and most dangerous demons on the mountain at any given time are typically those who have survived previous Selection years by feeding on candidates. atmosphere: The mountain at night is absolute darkness broken only by lantern light the candidates carry. Sound carries strangely. Demons are faster than humans and know the terrain. Candidates can hear other candidates screaming from elsewhere on the mountain and cannot help them. The psychological pressure of seven nights is as much a filter as the physical danger. registration: Survivors gather at the base at dawn on the seventh day. They select their ore for Nichirin Blade forging, receive their assigned swordsmith, are fitted for their Corps uniform, and receive their Kasugai Crow. This is the first moment the Corps formally acknowledges them as members. typical_outcome: Most candidates die. The Corps does not publish survival rates, does not hold memorial services for Selection deaths, and does not notify candidates' families of what happened to them. The Corps has no legal standing to do any of these things — it does not officially exist. key_figures: Sakonji Urokodaki, Kagaya Ubuyashiki, Hand Demon (the mountain's apex predator during Tanjiro's generation)Final Selection - Notes
historical_note: During Giyu Tomioka's Selection year, a candidate named Sabito single-handedly killed nearly every demon on the mountain to protect the other candidates — and was then killed by the Hand Demon, the oldest demon on the mountain, before he could finish. Every other candidate that year survived because of Sabito. Giyu was the only one who passed under his own power. This guilt defines Giyu's character. hand_demon_context: The Hand Demon had been on the mountain long enough to remember the names and faces of dozens of slayer candidates it had killed over the years, including many trained by Urokodaki. It targeted Urokodaki's students specifically out of hatred. Its death at Tanjiro's hands is the closing of a generational wound. roleplay_use: Final Selection is an excellent setting for origin story roleplay or flashback scenes. Seven nights, no backup, no communication, and the knowledge that other people are dying somewhere in the dark. The isolation and the stakes are both absolute. - #7Kakushi — Corps Support UnitDisabled

Kakushi — Corps Support Unit
name: Kakushi type: World Rule — Corps logistics and secrecy infrastructure role: The Kakushi are the non-combat support personnel of the Demon Slayer Corps. They are the reason the Corps can operate invisibly inside Taisho-era Japanese society. Without the Kakushi, every demon battle would leave evidence that morning light would reveal to civilians, law enforcement, or government authorities. battlefield_cleanup: After every engagement, Kakushi teams move in to erase all evidence. Demon remains are removed and disposed of before they can be discovered — demon bodies exposed to sunlight disintegrate into ash, but blood, structural damage, and civilian casualties all require active concealment. They restore sites to a condition that allows the Corps' secrecy to hold. slayer_extraction: Kakushi retrieve injured slayers from active or post-battle zones and transport them to the Butterfly Mansion or equivalent care facilities. This includes slayers who cannot walk, cannot be moved safely, or are in locations with active danger. Kakushi are trained in emergency medical transport but are not combat personnel — they operate in windows after the immediate threat is resolved. equipment_logistics: Uniform repair, weapon transport, supply delivery, coordination between Corps facilities. The Kakushi maintain the physical infrastructure that keeps slayers operational between missions. communication_support: Kakushi supplement crow messenger networks where direct delivery is impractical — particularly in urban zones or in rapidly changing tactical situations. identity_design: All Kakushi wear full-coverage black uniforms with face masks. This anonymity is by design — it protects them from being targeted by demons who might otherwise track and eliminate support personnel. Individual Kakushi are rarely named or acknowledged in Corps records. corps_secrecy_function: The Taisho-era Japanese government has no knowledge of either the Corps or the demon threat it manages. Every demon-related incident that might otherwise attract government attention is handled by Kakushi before it can become visible. The Corps' entire public invisibility is maintained through their work. key_figures: Goto (most frequently named Kakushi in the series), Kagaya Ubuyashiki, Kiriya UbuyashikiKakushi - Notes
goto_note: Goto rescues and transports Tanjiro and his allies multiple times across the series, often under dangerous post-battle conditions. He represents the quiet heroism of every support person who keeps a slayer alive to fight again — he fights no demon directly but is essential to the outcome of the war. heroism_note: The Kakushi receive no glory, no rank advancement for valor, no acknowledgment beyond their role. They die in service to the Corps without being counted among its combatants. Every slayer who survives a battle long enough to fight another one survived in part because Kakushi pulled them out. roleplay_use: Kakushi NPCs work well as grounding characters — the person who patches a wound, delivers a message, or asks no questions while handling something the slayer cannot. Goto in particular carries emotional warmth and is a useful anchor character in Butterfly Mansion scenes. - #8Nichirin BladesDisabled

Nichirin Blades
name: Nichirin Blades type: World Rule — demon-slaying weapons composition: Forged from Scarlet Crimson Iron Sand and Scarlet Crimson Ore — materials that absorb and permanently retain solar energy. The ore is found only in specific high-altitude locations where sunlight exposure is extreme. The forging process is a closely guarded hereditary craft known only to the smiths of the Swordsmith Village. killing_mechanism: The solar charge carried by a Nichirin Blade prevents demon cellular regeneration at the point of contact. Without this charge, decapitating a demon simply causes them to regenerate their head. With it, the wound site cannot heal — and if the decapitation is clean and fast enough, the demon dies. This is why ordinary weapons, no matter how sharp, cannot kill demons permanently. blade_color_change: Every Nichirin Blade changes color when first drawn by its owner. The color reflects the user's internal nature and their affinity for their Breathing Style. The color is permanent and unique to that slayer — a blade forged for one person will not change color for another. color_chart: Red/Crimson — Flame Breathing (Rengoku). Blue — Water Breathing (Giyu, Tanjiro initial draw). Yellow — Thunder Breathing (Zenitsu). Indigo-gray — Beast Breathing (Inosuke, dual blades, self-serrated by Inosuke's own hands). Pink — Flower/Love Breathing (Kanao, Mitsuri). Green — Wind Breathing (Sanemi). Gray — Stone Breathing (Gyomei, flail-and-axe variant rather than sword). Lavender — Serpent Breathing (Obanai, wavy blade for serpentine cuts). Turquoise/White — Mist Breathing (Muichiro). Purple — Insect Breathing (Shinobu, stinger-tip blade designed for poison injection rather than force). Black — rare, historically associated with short-lived practitioners. Tanjiro's blade. Actually indicates Sun Breathing compatibility — turns red when Hinokami Kagura is activated. crimson_red_exception: Yoriichi Tsugikuni's blade held permanent crimson red from the first moment it was drawn. The only blade in recorded history to do this. The color was a visible marker of his absolute Sun Breathing mastery. specialized_variants: Gyomei Himejima wields a flail and hand axe connected by chain — a Nichirin construction unique to his Stone Breathing style, which requires crushing force over cutting precision. Shinobu Kocho's blade has a stinger tip rather than a conventional cutting edge — she cannot generate enough force to behead demons, so her blade is engineered to deliver wisteria poison directly into tissue. Kokushibo grows flesh Nichirin blades directly from his body — the only demon to ever possess Nichirin weaponry. mark_interaction: A Nichirin Blade held by a Demon Slayer Mark bearer temporarily turns red, dramatically increasing its demon-killing efficacy. Tanjiro learns to maintain this state in the final arc — his blade burns continuously during the fight with Muzan. key_figures: Hotaru Haganezuka (Tanjiro's smith), Kozo Kanamori (Mitsuri's smith), Tecchin Tecchikawahara (village chief), all Demon SlayersNichirin Blades - Notes
black_blade_lore: The historical belief that black blades mark slayers who die young is a Corps superstition with some statistical basis — most previous black-blade users died early because they were Sun Breathing candidates who lacked the Demon Slayer Mark to survive using it. Tanjiro's case reverses this entirely. replacement_rules: Blades break frequently. The swordsmith assigned to each Hashira is responsible for replacement. Haganezuka becomes furious each time Tanjiro damages his blade — not because of the material cost but because his craft is a matter of personal pride and artistic investment. roleplay_use: A slayer's blade color is a visual identity marker. It is one of the first things another Corps member will notice about them. For original characters, blade color is an expressive choice that communicates Breathing Style and something about the person without requiring dialogue. - #9Sunlight as WeaponDisabled

Sunlight as Weapon
name: Sunlight as Weapon type: World Rule — demon absolute weakness mechanism: Direct sunlight causes rapid cellular disintegration in all demons. The demon burns from the outside in — skin, muscle, and bone dissolving in sequence. Demon regeneration cannot keep pace with sunlight damage even at Upper Rank levels. No demon can survive more than a few seconds of full exposure at peak regenerative capacity. universality: Without exception. No amount of power, age, or feeding history makes a demon sunlight-resistant. The cellular vulnerability to solar radiation is written into demon biology by Muzan's original blood composition and cannot be trained away, medicated against, or suppressed through sheer willpower. Every demon who has ever existed — except one — has died or would die from sustained sunlight exposure. behavioral_consequence: All demon activity is nocturnal. No demon willingly operates in daylight. Every demon that exists in the world must secure shelter from the sun before dawn. Many demon powers — spatial manipulation, barrier creation, darkness generation — exist primarily to maintain this advantage or extend their operational window. slayer_disadvantage: The Demon Slayer Corps works at night by absolute necessity. Slayers fight demons in their own environment — in the dark, at the time when demons are most active and comfortable. This structural disadvantage is one reason the Corps has struggled for centuries against Upper Rank demons specifically. muzan_obsession: Muzan's singular goal for over a millennium has been overcoming sunlight vulnerability. His hunt for the blue spider lily, his creation of thousands of demons as experiments toward this end, his targeting of the Kamado bloodline — all of it traces back to his desire to become the only being that can walk in both day and night. nezuko_significance: Nezuko Kamado is the only demon in recorded history to achieve sunlight resistance. Unprecedented. Her development directly determines the final battle's outcome — once Muzan understands what she has become, he realizes the solution to sunlight vulnerability exists and shifts his final goal to absorbing her. sunrise_tactic: The final battle with Muzan is explicitly a race against dawn. The entire Corps strategy is to keep Muzan engaged and mobile — preventing him from sheltering — until sunrise kills him where no slayer blade could alone. key_figures: Muzan Kibutsuji, Nezuko Kamado, all Demon SlayersSunlight as Weapon - Notes
nezuko_flame_note: Nezuko's Blood Demon Art produces a flame that behaves like sunlight at the cellular level against demon tissue — it can ignite Tanjiro's blade and cause sunlight-equivalent damage to demons. This is theorized to be a direct expression of her sunlight resistance manifesting as an offensive capability. roleplay_use: Dawn is a reliable dramatic timer in any scene involving demons. A demon choosing to fight past when they should have retreated to cover is a significant character choice — pride, obsession, or desperation overriding survival instinct. The color of the sky changing from black to gray to orange is a visceral countdown. - #10Swordsmith VillageDisabled

Swordsmith Village
name: Swordsmith Village type: World Rule — Corps infrastructure location: Hidden. The village's location is classified above standard Corps clearance — known only to Corps leadership, the Hashira, and the smiths themselves. Active slayers below Hashira are escorted blind to the village if they need to visit. Even the Kakushi do not universally know its location. function: Every Nichirin Blade used by every active slayer in the Demon Slayer Corps is forged here. The village is a self-contained hereditary community — swordsmithing families who have passed down the knowledge of Scarlet Crimson Ore forging for generations. The craft cannot be learned elsewhere; the knowledge is guarded and transmitted only within these bloodlines. identity_protection: All village residents wear traditional hyottoko masks in public. This is not ceremonial — it is a security measure. If a demon learned the village's location and captured residents, recognizable faces would allow the Corps' entire weapons supply to be held hostage. The masks ensure no individual villager can be identified by a demon informant. strategic_value: The Corps' entire offensive capability flows through this village. Without Nichirin Blades, no demon can be permanently killed — slayers can wound, slow, and harass demons indefinitely, but cannot end them. This makes the Swordsmith Village one of the single most valuable strategic assets in the war against demons — and a primary target in the Swordsmith Village Arc. governance: Led by Tecchin Tecchikawahara, the village chief. Individual smiths are assigned to specific Hashira and high-ranking slayers based on specialization — the blade requirements of Water Breathing differ fundamentally from those of Stone Breathing, and the assigned smith must understand the style their blade will serve. facilities: The village also maintains a natural hot spring with documented restorative properties — used by visiting slayers for recovery between missions. A master doll-maker maintains mechanical training constructs that serve as combat practice partners for slayers visiting the village. These dolls simulate demon speed and some demon physical properties without the actual risk. notable_smiths: Hotaru Haganezuka — Tanjiro's assigned smith. Obsessively passionate about his craft to the point of social dysfunction. Will pursue Tanjiro across distances to express displeasure at a damaged blade. Renowned for his precision and the quality of his finished work. Kozo Kanamori — Mitsuri Kanroji's assigned smith. Calm, professional. Known for the flexible blade construction Love Breathing requires. key_figures: Tecchin Tecchikawahara, Hotaru Haganezuka, Kozo Kanamori, Muichiro Tokito, Mitsuri KanrojiSwordsmith Village - Notes
arc_context: The Swordsmith Village Arc involves an Upper Rank demon attack directly on the village — the first time in the series a demon offensive targets Corps infrastructure rather than civilian hunting grounds. Gyokko (Upper Rank 5) and Hantengu (Upper Rank 4) are dispatched together, signaling how seriously Muzan takes eliminating the blade supply. training_constructs: The mechanical dolls in the village were built by Kotetsu's family line. They are not just training tools — they contain information about combat techniques, including a device that holds recordings of a past Hashira's movements. Muichiro and Tanjiro both access this training during their time in the village. roleplay_use: The Swordsmith Village is a rare safe location within the Corps world — wisteria-ringed, hidden, populated with non-combat craftspeople. It functions as a rest beat between missions, a place where characters can train, recover, and interact without immediate demon pressure. - #11Taisho-Era JapanDisabled

Taisho-Era Japan — World Setting
name: Taisho-Era Japan type: World Rule — setting and tone period: Taisho era (1912–1926), early-to-mid period. Approximately the 1910s–early 1920s in practice. description: Early 20th-century Japan during a period of rapid modernization and cultural collision. The Meiji industrialization is a generation old — its changes are visible everywhere, but traditional life persists in parallel. Western fashion, architecture, and technology have entered the urban landscape. Feudal aesthetics, kimono culture, and pre-industrial rural rhythms continue unchanged in the countryside. This tension between old and new is the visual and atmospheric texture of the world. urban_japan: Cities like Tokyo (Asakusa) have gas lighting, densely packed commercial districts, early industrial infrastructure, and mixed Japanese-Western fashion. Crowded, noisy, and wealthy enough that people do not notice one more disappearance. Perfect cover for demons to feed and disappear into. rural_japan: Mountains, forests, and small villages are largely unchanged from the Edo period. Isolated, poorly lit, with no modern communication and days between visits from any outside authority. A demon operating in rural Japan can feed for months without triggering any response. Most demon attacks in the series occur in these regions. transportation: Steam rail is operational — the Mugen Train arc takes place on a fully functioning commercial passenger train. Urban centers are connected. Rural areas remain accessible only by road or foot. public_ignorance: The general population has no knowledge that demons exist. Every demon attack is either explained away (wild animal attack, missing persons, structure fire), cleaned up before discovery, or simply never reported because there are no survivors and no witnesses. The Kakushi maintain this ignorance actively. government_relationship: The Meiji modernization created a centralized Japanese state with modern law enforcement, military, and bureaucracy. The Demon Slayer Corps operates entirely outside this structure — unsanctioned, unacknowledged, and unfunded by any government body. The Corps cannot call for military backup. It cannot report demon activity to police. It acts alone. atmosphere: Lantern-lit streets and kimono-clad civilians existing alongside creatures that have hunted in secret for a thousand years. The beauty of Taisho aesthetics — the architecture, the textiles, the food culture — exists as context for horror. That contrast is deliberate and central to the series' tone. key_figures: All characters — this is the world they inhabitTaisho-Era Japan - Notes
class_note: The Taisho era saw significant labor movement and social tension in Japan. The gap between urban merchant wealth and rural poverty is visible in the series — Tanjiro's family is mountain-rural poor, which positions him very differently from a wealthy Asakusa civilian who has never had to worry about disappearing in the night. western_influence: The Entertainment District arc captures the Taisho era's tension between traditional Japanese entertainment culture and encroaching modern sensibilities. Tengen Uzui's aesthetic — flamboyant, gold-heavy — is itself a kind of Taisho excess. roleplay_use: The setting should feel grounded. People eat period food, wear period clothes, have period concerns. The world is not fantasy-generic — it is specifically Taisho Japan, and that specificity creates texture. Demon attacks in this setting are disturbing partly because they intrude on an otherwise recognizable, lived-in world. - #12Tamayo's Medicines and ResearchDisabled

Tamayo's Medicines and Research
name: Tamayo's Medicines and Research type: World Rule — anti-demon pharmacology background: Tamayo is the foremost researcher of demon biology in existence. She has spent over two hundred years studying demonification, demon cellular structure, and the mechanisms of Muzan's control — longer than any human institution has ever studied anything. Her entire existence after breaking from Muzan has been aimed at one outcome: his destruction. research_base: Tamayo modified her own cellular structure over two centuries to partially free herself from Muzan's remote kill-switch. She is the only demon known to have achieved this. The modification required her to essentially become her own long-term research subject — she understands demon biology because she has been rebuilding her own for two hundred years. compound_1_wisteria_poison: Custom wisteria-based toxin compounds calibrated to different demon regeneration rates. Shinobu Kocho uses these in Insect Breathing — delivered directly into demon tissue through her stinger-tip blade. Multiple concentrations exist for different threat levels. compound_2_body_saturation: Shinobu spends years saturating her own body with an extreme wisteria concentration — turning herself into a living poison delivery mechanism. Any demon that consumes her body ingests a lethal dose. This is the weapon she designs specifically for Doma, Upper Rank 2, knowing she cannot physically defeat him. compound_3_aging_drug: The four-kanji drug — a compound that dramatically accelerates cellular aging in demon tissue. Administered to Muzan during the final battle via Tamayo's direct injection before her death. Forces his cells to age at extreme speed, progressively weakening his regeneration throughout the fight. compound_4_humanization_drug: A compound designed to reverse demonification. Administered to Nezuko through ongoing exposure — contributes directly to her recovery of full human status in the final arc. The mechanism works by gradually reinforcing the human cellular patterns that Nezuko's unique development preserved. blood_sample_program: Tamayo has collected blood samples from various demons over time, mapping the cellular structure of demonification across different demon types and generations. This research forms the foundation for all her anti-demon compounds. limitations: Tamayo cannot fight directly. Her research requires years or decades per compound — she cannot rapid-prototype countermeasures. She depends on physical samples she cannot always safely acquire. Her knowledge is unparalleled but her operational window is constrained. key_figures: Tamayo, Yushiro, Shinobu Kocho, Nezuko KamadoTamayo's Medicines and Research - Notes
strategic_arc_note: Tamayo's entire arc is a slow-motion weapon assembly across centuries. Every decade of research was a component. Her death during the final battle is not a tragedy in isolation — it is the plan activating. She dies injecting the aging compound into Muzan, which means her death is the delivery mechanism. yushiro_context: Yushiro is the only demon Tamayo ever personally created — she transformed him with her own blood, at his request, to save his life. He has served as her assistant and protector for over a century. His devotion to her is absolute and borders on obsession. roleplay_use: Tamayo's clinic in Asakusa functions as a safe house for demons who want to live without harming humans. It is one of the only places in the world where a demon and a human can coexist openly. For roleplay scenes involving demon characters with conflicted identities, Tamayo's presence is a narrative anchor point — she represents the possibility that the transformation is not the end of who a person was. - #13The Demon Slayer CorpsDisabled

The Demon Slayer Corps
name: The Demon Slayer Corps type: World Rule — the organization description: A private, secret organization that has existed for several hundred years. Its purpose is the protection of humanity from demons and the eventual total eradication of demonkind, beginning with Muzan Kibutsuji. It has no legal status, no government affiliation, no public acknowledgment, and no institutional funding. It is sustained entirely by the Ubuyashiki family's private wealth and the voluntary service of its members. leadership: The Master (Oyakata-sama) — the Ubuyashiki family head. Currently Kagaya Ubuyashiki, the twenty-eighth generation to hold this position. The Ubuyashiki family has led the Corps for its entire existence. The Master does not fight — their power is entirely relational and strategic. hashira_role: The nine Pillars are the Corps' most powerful fighters and serve as regional commanders and mission leaders. Each masters a unique Breathing Style at its peak. They operate with near-total tactical autonomy in their designated regions and report directly to the Master. Hashira are the public face of the Corps' power — the first line of response to Upper Rank demon threats. active_slayers: Ranked Mizunoto through Kinoe. These are the Corps' operational field personnel — the slayers who handle the day-to-day demon threat across Japan. Most never face an Upper Rank demon. Most die from standard demons before reaching Kinoe. kakushi: Non-combat logistics and cleanup personnel. Essential to the Corps' operational secrecy. See separate entry. butterfly_mansion: Medical and rehabilitation facility for injured slayers. Led operationally by Aoi Kanzaki under the supervision of Shinobu Kocho. The only Corps facility specifically designed for human recovery — slayers who survive battles often require extended rehabilitation before returning to field duty. mission_objective: The complete eradication of all demons. Because all demons are created from and linked to Muzan's biology, his death is the single action that ends demonkind — every demon he ever created dies when he dies. The Corps has known this for generations. The difficulty is that Muzan has not been killable until now. operational_secrecy: No public presence. No government sanction. Members operate anonymously. Deaths are not officially reported. Battlefields leave no evidence. The Corps cannot ask for military backup, public recognition, or outside resources. This secrecy protects it from being dismantled by authorities who would not believe the threat — and from being targeted directly by Muzan through official channels. historical_note: The Corps has existed for the entire period of Muzan's presence in Japan and has never come close to killing him until the final arc. Every previous generation of Hashira died without achieving the objective. The difference in the final battle is the Demon Slayer Mark spreading across multiple Hashira simultaneously — a convergence that has not happened since Yoriichi's era. key_figures: Kagaya Ubuyashiki, all Hashira, Tanjiro Kamado, the KakushiThe Demon Slayer Corps - Notes
psychological_weight: Corps members know they are likely to die. They know the Hashira before them died. They know the Corps has been fighting for centuries without winning. They choose to serve anyway. This is the emotional core of the organization — not hope of personal survival but the decision to be the generation that makes the difference. voluntary_nature: No one is conscripted. Every slayer chose to enter Final Selection and chose to continue fighting. The Corps cannot compel service. What compels it is the knowledge that without the Corps, no one else is standing between the demon threat and the civilians who don't know it exists. roleplay_use: The Corps is a found family structure built around a shared impossible mission. Every member has lost someone to demons. The bonds between slayers — particularly among peers who trained together or survived Final Selection together — carry the weight of that shared history. Depicting the Corps well means depicting both its institutional ruthlessness (deaths are not mourned officially, weakness cannot be tolerated) and the profound human connections that form inside it. - #14The Twelve KizukiDisabled

The Twelve Kizuki
name: The Twelve Kizuki type: World Rule — demon hierarchy description: Muzan Kibutsuji's twelve most powerful demons — an elite hierarchy that serves as his personal army, his enforcement structure, and his primary tool for escalating the demon threat beyond what the Demon Slayer Corps can reliably counter. Each member has Muzan's kanji for their rank etched into their eye, visible as a permanent mark of their status. structure_upper: Upper Ranks (Jogen) — six slots, numbered 1 through 6. The most powerful individual entities in the world after Muzan himself. They have not changed membership in over a century — no Demon Slayer in modern history has successfully killed an Upper Rank until the events of the series. Their longevity reflects capability: previous generations of Hashira died trying. structure_lower: Lower Ranks (Kagen) — six slots, numbered 1 through 6. Significantly weaker than Upper Ranks. Muzan executes all but one of the Lower Ranks in the Infinity Castle at the start of the Dimensional Infinity Fortress arc — their failure to produce results, after having witnessed the deaths of Hashira, provokes his contempt. The Lower Ranks are functionally expendable in Muzan's view. upper_ranks_at_series_start: Upper Rank 1 — Kokushibo (Michikatsu Tsugikuni, twin brother of Yoriichi, Demon Slayer turned demon). Upper Rank 2 — Doma (cult leader, ice Blood Demon Art, emotionally hollow). Upper Rank 3 — Akaza (martial arts obsessive, refuses to eat women, seeks a strong opponent). Upper Rank 4 — Hantengu (fear-manifestation demon, multiplies from emotional states). Upper Rank 5 — Gyokko (vessel-obsessed demon, pottery Blood Demon Art). Upper Rank 6 — Daki and Gyutaro (sibling pair sharing a single rank; Gyutaro is the dominant entity). muzan_control: Muzan can communicate with any Kizuki member remotely and can kill any of them instantly by transmitting a death signal through their shared cellular bond. Their loyalty is not entirely voluntary — they cannot betray him without triggering this response. Some Upper Ranks (Kokushibo, Akaza) are genuinely loyal. Others serve primarily out of the inability to refuse. power_gap: The gap between Upper Ranks and Lower Ranks is not proportional — Upper Ranks are categorically beyond Lower Rank capability. The gap between individual Upper Ranks is also significant: Upper Rank 1 Kokushibo is broadly considered to be in a different category of threat from Upper Rank 6 Gyutaro, who is already beyond anything the standard Corps can handle. lore_note: Each Upper Rank death over the course of the series triggers escalation. Muzan's response to losses becomes increasingly direct — from deploying single Upper Ranks to sending multiple simultaneously to ultimately engaging personally. The Corps' ability to kill them in sequence is what forces his hand. key_figures: Muzan Kibutsuji, all Upper and Lower Rank membersThe Twelve Kizuki - Notes
kokushibo_context: Kokushibo is unique among the Twelve Kizuki — he is a former Demon Slayer who chose demonization over death because he could not accept that his brother Yoriichi surpassed him. He still practices Moon Breathing, his demonic derivative of their shared Sun Breathing training. He is both the strongest Kizuki and one of the most thematically significant — a demonstration of what the Demon Slayer path looks like taken to its worst possible conclusion. akaza_note: Akaza seeks strong opponents but refuses to kill or eat women — a behavioral hold-over from his human life that he cannot articulate. His fight with Rengoku is the first Upper Rank confrontation in the series and establishes the power ceiling that the subsequent story must gradually surpass. roleplay_use: The Twelve Kizuki are appropriate as antagonist NPCs in missions set across the series timeline. Lower Ranks can be deployed as serious threats in standard mission contexts. Upper Ranks are boss-level encounters that should be treated as catastrophic events — not routine missions. No Hashira-equivalent character should walk away from an Upper Rank fight without significant cost. - #15Ubuyashiki Family CurseDisabled

Ubuyashiki Family Curse
name: Ubuyashiki Family Curse type: World Rule — hereditary lore description: The Ubuyashiki family carries a hereditary illness that weakens and kills each successive generation young. Every child born into the family arrives pale, frail, and deteriorating from birth. Most die before thirty. Kagaya Ubuyashiki appears to be in his fifties or sixties — he is in his early thirties. His body is visibly failing. origin: According to family tradition and a priest's declaration generations ago — one of the Ubuyashiki ancestors gave birth to Muzan Kibutsuji, the first demon. The family's bloodline is spiritually entangled with his existence. The illness is framed as divine punishment for having produced the demon threat. The family accepted this explanation and built their entire purpose around it. curse_logic: The illness cannot be lifted through medicine, training, or spiritual practice. It is connected to Muzan's continued existence — and ends only when he dies. Every Ubuyashiki who has ever led the Corps has died knowing they would not live to see the mission completed. They led anyway. kagaya_response: Rather than treating this as tragedy, Kagaya constructed his entire strategy around the certainty of his death. He does not mourn what he cannot change. He converts the inevitability into tactical material — his plan to detonate himself, his family, and the Ubuyashiki Estate during the final battle to weaken Muzan before the Hashira engage is the curse weaponized. His death is not a sacrifice — it is the plan. spiritual_gift: The family's constant proximity to death has produced a form of precognitive intuition across generations. Kagaya reads people with an accuracy that approaches supernatural. He anticipates events, understands motives, and navigates the Hashira's varying personalities with a consistency that would require years of observation from anyone else. This is what makes every Hashira trust him absolutely — including those who find his gentleness strange. leadership_model: The Ubuyashiki line does not produce warriors. The curse ensures they die too young to develop combat skill. What they produce are leaders — people of exceptional interpersonal intelligence, strategic clarity, and absolute moral commitment. Their power is relational. A Hashira who doubts Kagaya is a Hashira who has not looked him in the face. key_figures: Kagaya Ubuyashiki, Amane Ubuyashiki, Kiriya Ubuyashiki, all HashiraUbuyashiki Family Curse - Notes
kiriya_note: Kagaya's children — twin daughters and a son, Kiriya — inherit the same illness. Kiriya takes command of the Corps after Kagaya's death in the final arc, issuing orders during the battle while too ill to stand. The continuity of leadership through his death is itself a demonstration of what the Ubuyashiki family built across generations. emotional_note: Kagaya's relationship with his family is one of the most tender in the series. He knows they will all die young. His wife Amane knows. His children know. They have made peace with this in a way that is neither resigned nor broken. The warmth of the Ubuyashiki household is inseparable from the weight of what they carry. roleplay_use: Kagaya's character is best played as serene, deeply perceptive, and genuinely kind — not in a performative way but in the way of someone who has already accepted the worst and found that acceptance freeing. He sees people clearly and speaks to what he sees. He does not flatter. He does not patronize. He acknowledges. - #16WisteriaDisabled

Wisteria — Anti-Demon Compound
name: Wisteria type: World Rule — natural demon deterrent biology: Wisteria flowers and their concentrated extracts contain a compound that disrupts demon cellular regeneration. Contact with wisteria-infused material causes varying degrees of biological interference — from slowed healing to full paralysis to cellular death — depending on the concentration and delivery method. The exact mechanism is understood by Tamayo but not widely known within the Corps; most slayers simply know it works. passive_barrier_use: Wisteria growing densely at lower elevations creates natural boundaries that demons cannot physically cross. The plant does not need to touch the demon — the airborne compound at sufficient concentration is enough to deter approach. Mount Fujikasane uses this effect to seal demons inside for Final Selection. The Ubuyashiki Estate is surrounded by wisteria for the same reason — Muzan cannot attack it directly regardless of his power level. infrastructure_defense: Many Corps safe houses, relay points, and outposts use wisteria plantings as passive perimeter security. A demon cannot enter a wisteria-enclosed space without experiencing significant biological distress. This passive defense system is the Corps' primary answer to the question of why demons cannot simply overrun Corps facilities. weapon_delivery_shinobu: Shinobu Kocho's Insect Breathing style delivers wisteria poison directly through her blade into demon tissue with each strike. Her custom concentrations are calibrated to specific demon regeneration rates — she has different preparations for different threat levels. The stinger-tip construction of her blade is specifically designed for poison injection rather than cutting force, because she lacks the physical mass to behead demons. body_saturation_method: Over years of preparation, Shinobu saturates her own body with an extreme concentration of wisteria poison — far beyond what would be survivable for a normal person, administered gradually to let her body adapt. The result is that any demon that consumes her entire body ingests a dose large enough to kill even Upper Rank-level regeneration. This is her weapon against Doma, Upper Rank 2 — she cannot defeat him in combat, so she becomes the weapon. limitations: Upper Rank demons generate regeneration fast enough to metabolize standard wisteria accumulations before they reach lethal concentration — unless the dose is extreme, delivered directly into the bloodstream, or combined with simultaneous Nichirin Blade damage that forces the demon to divide regenerative resources. Standard wisteria works as a deterrent and wound complicator; killing Upper Ranks with it requires the body-saturation approach. lore_significance: Wisteria is the Corps' entire passive defense infrastructure. Without it, demons could eliminate Corps medical facilities, supply chains, and training grounds with trivial effort. The fact that they cannot is entirely because of wisteria barriers. It is the reason the war has lasted as long as it has. key_figures: Shinobu Kocho, Tamayo, Demon Slayer CorpsWisteria - Notes
ubuyashiki_estate_note: Muzan has known where the Ubuyashiki Estate is for years. He has not attacked it because the wisteria perimeter prevents him from approaching directly. His eventual assault during the final arc requires a separate strategy — and only succeeds because the final battle is deliberately triggered on the Corps' terms, not his. shinobu_sacrifice_note: Shinobu's body-saturation plan is not a last resort improvised in desperation — it is a prepared strategy she committed to when she realized she could never physically match Doma in combat. She has known for some time that this is likely how she will die. She accepted it. This is the emotional weight that should be present in any scene where she references her preparation or her confrontation with Doma. roleplay_use: Wisteria can function as environmental world-building detail in any scene — the smell of it around a Corps safe house, the presence of a wisteria garden at a manor that turns out to be an Ubuyashiki affiliate, a demon recoiling from a wisteria-lined path. It is a subtle marker of Corps presence and a reliable signal that the location has some level of protection.
