   Everybody in the Hunter x Hunter universe has an aura, but only a select few people can use it. This ability to manipulate aura is called “nen”. People can form special abilities called “hatsu” with their nen. They can also conceal their presence, called “zetsu”, or strengthen their aura, called “ren”.

   Hunters are the elite in the world. To become a Hunter, you have to pass the Hunter Exam, which consists of different phases that test physical and mental fortitude. Hundreds of people die each year in an attempt to get a Hunter’s license.

   There are many types of Hunters. The main tenant is that they must always be hunting something, whether it is rare minerals, ingredients, animals, or even people.

   The Hunter’s Association is an association of Hunters. Specialized Hunters help proctor the Hunter Exam every year.

   The chairman is Isaac Netero, and there is a group called the Zodiacs that help run the Association.

   The Phantom Troupe is a powerful gang of murderers and thieves that hail from Meteor City. They kill and steal indiscriminately. They have twelve “legs” (members).

   The Kurta Clan was an isolated village in the Lukso Province know for having eyes that changed to Scarlet when emotional. The clan was massacred by the Phantom Troupe so they could sell the Scarlet Eyes on the black market.

   Kurapika is the only survivor of the Kurta Clan.

   Kurapika is one of the main characters of Hunter x Hunter and the sole survivor of the Kurta Clan. His goal is to avenge his kinsmen and kill the Phantom Troupe. He is friends with Gon, Leorio, Killua, and Melody.

   Gon Freeccs is the main character of Hunter x Hunter. He became a Hunter to find his dad Ging Freeccs, who is also a Hunter. Gon is from Whale Island.

   His best friend is Killua Zoldyck. He is friends with Kurapika and Leorio, and trained under Biscuit Krueger.

   Looks: Spiky green hair, hazel eyes, earnest smile Personality: Earnest, friendly, loyal, wants to help, curious Age: 12-14 Nen Type: Enhancer Hatsu/Special Ability: “Jajaken”. Gon can use his aura for “Rock Paper Scissors”. With Rock, he strengthens his punches. With Paper, he can emit his aura to cause distant damage. With Scissors, he can sharpen his aura and use it as a blade.

9. #9Killua Zoldyck

   Killua Zoldyck is a former assassin that became a Hunter because he was bored. He met Gon during the Hunter Exam and is best friends with him. The Zoldyck family is a dangerous family of assassins.

   His favorite snack is called “ChocoRobos”, a type of chocolate candy.

   Looks: Fluffy white hair, cat-like blue eyes Personality: Loyal, cunning, intelligent, tricky Age: 12-14 Nen Type: Transmuter Hatsu/Special Ability: Electricity. Killua can use his aura and transmute it into electricity. “Godspeed”: Killua becomes lightning fast and strong.

10. #10Leorio Paladiknight

    Hisoka Morow is a clown-like magician that only cares about his own entertainment. Sometimes he is helpful, other times he is not. He loves to fight strong opponents. He falsely joined the Phantom Troupe solely to fight the leader, Chrollo, and left shortly afterwards. He likes to help Gon and Killua become stronger in a roundabout way.

    Looks: Fiery red hair, golden eyes, has a tear drop painted under left eye, has a star painted under right eye, always wears heels, sly smile Age: 29-31 Personality: Whimsical, deceitful, impulsive, creepy Nen Type: Transmuter Hatsu/Special Ability: “Bungee Gum”: Hisoka can turn his aura into a sticky like substance that can entrap opponents. “Texture Surprise”: Hisoka can transmute his aura to replicate any texture and camouflage anything he wants.

    Maha: Great-grandfather Zeno: Grandfather Silva: The current patriarch of the Zoldyck family Kikyo: The current matriarch. Silva’s wife; she married into the family. Illumi: The eldest son, cold-blooded and emotionless. Milluki: The second son that is obsessed with gaming, anime, and is chronically online. Killua: The third son and prodigy. No longer an assassin. Alluka: The only daughter. Her ability is dangerous so they keep her locked in the basement. Killua and her are close. Kalluto: The youngest son.

    The Dark Continent is unexplored land. It is extremely dangerous and hosts a variety of undiscovered flora and fauna. Every expedition there has led to several casualties, but each discovery is highly valuable information. The Chimera Ants came from the Dark Continent.

    The Black Whale is the most recent and current voyage to the Dark Continent.

    Greed Island is a video game created by Ging that you can only enter if you use Nen. It is secretly a real place in the world, and can only be accessed via a JoyStation with a special cartridge.

    Meteor City is an undocumented city with millions of undocumented residents. It is lawless, with bonds thinner than water but thicker than blood.

    The Phantom Troupe is from Meteor City.

    They have a saying: “We’ll accept anything you leave, so take nothing from us.”

16. #16Chimera Ants

    Keys: Menthuthuyoupi, Shaiapouf, Chimera Ants, Neferpitou, Meruem, Chimera

    Chimera Ants are a threat from the Dark Continent. They eat people with the intent to take over the human race. They are insects and animals with humanoid features, and they can all speak regularly and some can even use Nen.

    Kite was in charge of destroying the Chimera Ants, but was killed by Neferpitou.

    Some important Chimera Ants are:

    Meruem: the Chimera King and one of the most powerful Nen users Neferpitou: Part of the Royal Guard and cat like. Shaiapouf: Part of the Royal Guard, and butterfly-like. Menthuthuyoupi: Also called “Youpi”. Part of the Royal Guard. Chimera Queen: Meruem’s mother. He killed her when he was born. Colt: A Chimera Ant that turned good. Meleoran: A Gecko Chimera Ant that turned good. Ikalgo: An octopus Chimera Ant that turned good. He is Killua’s friend.

    Every Nen user has a specific type. Types can sometimes be distinguished by the person’s personality. There are six types:

    Enhancer: Nen users who can enhance their aura. They are earnest, straight-forward, and friendly. Emitter: Nen users that can project their aura long distances. They are impulsive, hot-headed, and straight-forward. Transmuter: Nen users that can change the properties of their aura. They are whimsical and prone to deceit. Manipulators: Nen users that can manipulate objects and other people with their nen. Conjurers: Nen users that can conjure objects with their Nen. They are high-strung and goal-driven. Specialists: Nen users that don’t fit into any of the categories. Rarest type. They are charismatic and enigmatic.
