- #1The story
Keys: History, the gods, marriage edict, deities, Ueda, Aetahalla, gods, Eovai, Danalnor, Eidira, Ollos · Secondary: History, world history, history of the continent
Ueda is a land divided.
Six deities created Ueda thousands of years ago, placing five races on the southern continent of Arcadia and a sixth on the northern island of Luite. The gods built a central tower and kept their creations isolated from each other. Eventually, they grew bored and abandoned their world for the Spirit Realm.
When the protective barriers fell, the races initially clashed in anger over their abandonment. After discovering the empty tower, they gradually formed alliances and learned to coexist peacefully for centuries, establishing trade routes and sharing skills across Arcadia's five villages.
New generations eventually forgot why they maintained these bonds. A powerful Zeikalan declared himself King of Eovai, marking the first political boundaries. The other villages quickly followed, establishing monarchies and territorial claims. Where alliances once existed, rivalries now flourished.
Eovai's expansion destroyed forests, sickening the Wrirei of Audela Kingdom. Aetahalla's kings falsely claimed Ollos had stolen their land, seeking to push north away from Eovai's pollution. Cannibalistic Uiche pirates from Eidira began raiding Danalnor's shores, creating a new threat. The continent's center became a battleground.
After decades of war, the gods returned. Witnessing Eovai's military create a miles-wide chasm through the continent's heart, they furiously summoned all kingdom leaders to the tower.
Their proposed solution was the gradual formation of alliances between all six kingdoms. Marriage of each kingdom's most eligible prince and princess into their sworn enemy's royal family, meant to cement political bonds and foster friendship between the most virulent kingdoms, was to be the foundation on which the alliances were built.
After the three groups of rival kingdoms had drawn up their treaties and married their children, slightly larger groups would be forced to ally: Danalnor, Audela and Eovai would comprise one group, and the other would be Eidira, Ollos and Aetahalla.
Finally, these two groups would merge into one massive alliance, and war would be stamped out of Ueda.
But when does anything so elaborate ever go as planned?
- #2Aethalla - Orirni
Keys: Orirni, Uatius, desert dwellers, Aetahalla, Aetahalla kingdom, seers, Aurais, giants
Aetahalla Kingdom Race: Orirni Royals: Uatias
The Orirni are desert-dwelling seers of imposing stature. All of them, men and women alike, stand over 7', and the average male is 8'. Compared to the other races of Ueda, they're absolute giants. Orirni children are born with the ability to see into the future. Their left eye, or Seer Eye, is blind to the world around them and sees events taking place 600,000 years into the future in random locations. The events have nothing to do with the Orirni who sees them and are often nonsensical or impossible to interpret, so the visions are regarded as annoying and pointless rather than useful. The nonstop sensory input drives many Orirni to madness if they do nothing to block it out. Gouging out the Seer Eye doesn't end the visions however: they simply switch to other eye, effectively blinding the Orirni from seeing anything in their environment, and in the rare case of both eyes being removed the images play in the Orirni's mind like an endless movie reel. The visions can be controlled with bespelled eyepatches, which are the cheapest and most readily available option for tuning them out. In extreme cases an enchanted eyepatch may not work alone, and it must be used in conjunction with costly and barely legal drugs imported from Audela. The ruling Uatias family is the primary recipient of these drugs, as offspring from the royal bloodline tend to have the most powerful and persistent visions of all Orirni.
Their average lifespan is 250-300 years.
- #3Audela - Wrirei
Keys: Audela, Eridan, Wrirei, Rhiju, Audela Kingdom
Audela Kingdom Race: Wrirei Royals: Rhiju
The most mysterious kingdom in all of Ueda is Audela. The inhabitants are cold and reject most outsiders, but it’s no secret that they harbor a particular hate of the Zeikalans, who throw off the natural balance of the world. They call themselves the Wrirei. They are directly linked (both physically and mentally) to nature. They can feel the pain and the happiness of the world. Like other kingdoms they have a royal family, however their nobility is chosen at birth by the nature god whom they worship. It is an extremely rare occasion for a child of nobility to be born, but when they are lightning strikes a tree and it burns down to the root. In the ashes a single untouched seed is left behind. The seed is tucked away and the child is given the surname Rhiju: their word for nature. Unlike the Nairris, the royal infants are raised communally. The Wrirei have heightened hearing due to their large, pointed ears. They are skilled archers and make excellent assassins. They make their homes in mounds of soft earth.
Their average lifespan is 550-600 years.
- #4Danalnor - Seini
Keys: , Seini, Collyel, Wolf familiar, Danalnor Kingdom, Danalnor · Secondary: Uiche's favorite snack
Danalnor Kingdom Race: Seini Royals: Collyel
The Seini are ruled by a patriarchal royal family who go by the name of Collyel. Each Seini survives by inhaling pleasant scents: most typically apples, cinnamon, and other naturally occurring smells. They don’t use their mouths for food, seeing it as a vile, stomach-churning act. They tend to be thin and willowy in their build. Their sense of smell is the best in all of Ueda and they share camaraderie with their wolves. Every Seini has his or her own wolf familiar. In a coming of age ceremony, the young girl or boy is sent into the forest with very little provisions. Every test is different per the individual, but the wolf tends to choose the Seini. If the child comes back without one they are promptly disposed of, since it is believed that the child has been forsaken and will lead a life of ill-fortune. They are skilled at hand to hand combat for self-defense, but they are a peaceful race with little quarrels.
Their average lifespan is 150-200 years.
- #5Eidira - Uiche
Keys: pirates, Atua, Eidira, cannibals, cannibal pirates, piracy, Eidira kingdom, Uiche · Secondary: Luite, horned beings
Eidira Kingdom Race: Uiche Royals: Atua
The notorious and feared Uiche reside in the kingdom of Eidira on the isolated northern island continent of Luite. The Uiche subsist on a diet of live meat, but they don't raise animals for sustenance. They're known throughout Ueda as barbaric cannibals, though they certainly don't limit their food options to their own kind. Anything that breathes and moves is fair game, though they're particularly fond of eating the Seini. They see themselves as the absolute top of the food chain and view all other races, and their own people, as livestock. This mentality has resulted in rampant racism and superiority complexes for all Uiche.
They are fiercely protective of their land and customs. To keep other races away from Eidira, the royal family has sanctioned piracy in the waters between mainland Ueda and their own island. Piracy is a popular occupation, since food is never scarce (they simply eat the crew members aboard the ships they attack and loot) and the pay is excellent.
Their people are blessed with devastating beauty and grace to offset their atrocious eating habits. Every Uiche is born with a pair of fragile horns that gradually harden with age until they reach a near-unbreakable diamond-like strength. A slaughtered Uiche's horns are taken as a trophy, and collecting horns is a popular hobby amongst all age groups.
The Atua family rules Eidira with a tyrannical and ruthless fist, and the crown is awarded to whichever child kills and feasts upon the current king or queen.
Their average lifespan is 600-650 years.
- #6Eovai - Zeikalans
Keys: Zeikalans, Aevori, first monarchy, Eovai Kingdom, Zeikala · Secondary: Elementalist, dual elements, mages
Eovai Kingdom Race: Zeikala Royals: Aevori
The Zeikala are masters of the elements and have used their powers over nature to forge the largest and most industrialized kingdom in Ueda. Zeikala are born with an innate tendency toward the manipulation of a certain element. Children able to control two elements simultaneously are rare, and their birth is considered a blessing from the Gods. These children are marked for greatness and absorbed into the royal Aevori family, where they're trained from the moment they can walk to bend nature to their will. The children are expected to take roles as Generals in the Zeikalan army when they come of age and have mastered their elements. The Zeikalan military is a force to be reckoned with because of those royal dual-wielders. For decades they've encroached farther and farther past their country's borders into the contested land at the center of the Arcadian continent, much to the displeasure of the other mainland kingdoms.
The pride the Zeikala take in their ability has made them loathe the Wrirei, whose nature-preserving ideals are viewed as counterproductive to technological development and territorial expansion.
Their average lifespan is 100-150 years.
- #7Ollos - Nairris
Keys: , Nairris, spirit realm, Ollosian Council, Ollos, Ollos Kingdom, spirit energy · Secondary: Sera, Princess Seraphina, Seraphina, Seraphina Modio
Ollos Kingdom Race: Nairris Royals: Modio
The Nairris are perhaps the closest race to the Gods. In their mountainous kingdom the veil between the land of the living and the dead is practically nonexistent. Since the creation of Ueda Ollos has been a place of rest for the spirits of the deceased, and for just as long the Nairris have been their guardians. They protect the land and keep out intruders that would sabotage the afterlife, or manipulate the spirits to become wicked or malevolent.
The Nairris have dark hair and fair skin, with equally black eyes. They are ordinary humans for the most part, and the majority of them don’t have any notable powers other than communing with the spirits. The Nairris have an allergy to grass, but as long as it doesn’t touch their skin no harm will come to them. Royalty in Ollos is determined at birth. When a Nairris’ child is born its status is immediately evident. The descendants of the gods are born with eyes as blue as the ocean, and contain spirit energy within their bodies. They can manipulate this energy and manifest it as a solid entity in whatever shape suits their needs, be it as a servant or a weapon. Spirit energy is typically blue or white and always transparent. Once an infant is determined to be royalty it is taken to the castle to be raised in the appropriate settings, and given the surname “Modio.”
Their average lifespan is 350-400 years.
- #8General Transport
Keys: Transportation, portals, teleportation, teleport · Secondary: Travel between kingdoms, travel great distance
Ueda's not a tiny place. Walking anywhere would take forever so the six gods arranged a faster mode of transportation between the kingdoms.
Portals in each kingdom allow instant transportation across the map.
One portal is located just outside each of the kingdoms.
To gain entrance, one must speak to the two guards standing sentry in front of a portal. The guards have been hand selected by the gods for impartiality and were taught a specific spell to controls the portal's travel functions. The spell sets the portal's destination; when it's not active, trying to go into the portal is pointless and the traveler will step straight through the vortex like it isn't even there. The guards check the identities of all who wish to use the portal, and then one of them will travel to the destination kingdom to receive approval from the destination kingdom's guards before letting the travelers through.
Passing through the vortex feels like stepping through a sheet of water. Transport is instantaneous, so a person could step through halfway and be in two kingdoms at the same time if they wanted to (think tourists standing on state borders and such).
The portals can be moved by grabbing their edges. They're massive but literally weigh nothing and behave like wet paper when shaken, so even a child can relocate or madly flail them around with ease. The Uiche don't like visitors and might move their portal into a waist-deep pool of filthy sewer water out of spite before letting foreigners through, for example. Other kingdoms may employ similar "Oops, did we do that?" behaviors with their portals, so travelers are advised to proceed with caution, lest they step out of a portal and over the edge of a cliff.
- #9Mounts
Keys: Mounts, Malor, Vesar, wolves, transportation, Nalnix, Chuthe, Fekk
MOUNTS Every kingdom breeds its own species of animal suitable for riding over long distances. These creatures can be ridden for pleasure, travel, or as war beasts, and are usually trained to attack the mounts of other Kingdoms on sight.
Aetahalla - Fekk Max speed: 45 mph on land, 85 mph in water & quicksand Fekk are the descendants of sea serpents that have evolved to dwell in quicksand. They pull unsuspecting passersby into their sand pits and hold them beneath the surface until they've suffocated. The Orirni have successfully domesticated one of the smaller breeds. They range from thirty to fifty feet long from head to tail and are five to six feet tall at the shoulder. They have brightly colored scales up top with tan lower halves. The Fekk's back is shaped like a natural saddle, and riders can either sit or stand on the fairly flat space between the ridges of its back spines while guiding it with a reined harness that slips on over the its jaws.
Audela - Vesar Max speed: 105 mph Vesar are quiet, gentle creatures considered sacred by the Wrirei. They make their homes in meadows in the deepest parts of the forest where little light breaks through the dense canopy of the trees, and finding such a meadow requires navigating through twisting mazes of trunks and vines in near-darkness. In the wild they function as protectors of the forest, and although they're not naturally violent they've been known to attack those who defile nature. Vesar used as mounts are of smaller stock and roughly the size of horses, standing about six feet at the shoulder, while those used for manual labor can be as tall as ten feet at the shoulder. These larger Vesar often have rope ladders attached to their saddles for easier mounting and dismounting, and additionally are taught to kneel when their rider approaches. Vesar are the fastest mounts on land, but they're unable to swim and sink like rocks in water that reaches past the tops of their heads.
Danalnor - Wolves Max speed: 65 mph The Seini ride their wolf companions when they need to travel. Danalnorian wolves are much stronger and sturdier than an average canine, and combined with the Seini's propensity for being slight of build, the wolves have no problems carrying their owner. Even a small wolf can easily support the weight of two large riders, though the riders run the risk of looking absolutely ridiculous. Seini have telepathic bonds with their wolves and can communicate with them aloud or in their minds.
Eidira - Chuthe Max speed: 40 mph on land, 65 mph in swamps Chuthe are ferocious beasts, and even through years of selective breeding they're only just beginning to become tame enough to be called domesticated. Chuthe riders are rare, since they will absolutely not obey a rider with a weak will; its master must be incredibly dominant and indisputably an Alpha for the beast to even consider listening to their commands. A properly trained and submissive Chuthe is a deadly asset and valuable companion to any Uiche, however, and their raw power makes them well worth the trouble of taming. Chuthe are massive, standing fifteen feet at the shoulder and measuring thirty feet from head to tail. With their razor sharp horns, foot-long claws, six inch fangs and eyes that glow from within like hot coals, they're the most powerful and deadly of the mounts by far, but also the slowest. Their heavily muscled legs, webbed hind feet and finned tails make them especially adept at powering through swamplands, lakes, and muddy terrain, but their sheer bulk and weight hinders them significantly on dry land.
Eovai - Nalnix Max speed: 50-100 mph, depending on elemental attribute (Earth - 50, Water - 70, Fire - 85, Wind - 100) Eovai has been breeding Nalnix for centuries. They're the most tame and companionable of the mounts by far, and often kept as pets despite their size. A fully grown Nalnix is between five and a half to seven feet at the shoulder and eight to ten feet long, excluding their tails. Nalnix are native to the oceanside cave systems along Eovai's southern and southeastern coasts, and like the Zeikala they have an affinity to a certain element at birth. Unlike the Zeikala, the Nalnix are not able to wield their element, but their coloration, maximum speeds and potential pool of riders are affected by their affinity. Nalnix can only bond with a Zeikala whose element is complementary to the Nalnix's, except for in very rare cases. The elemental combinations are air <-> fire and water <-> earth. Therefore, a Zeikala with control over the element of air will only be able to form a bond with a Nalnix of the fire element and vice versa; water elements will similarly only be able to form bonds with those bearing an earth affinity, and earth can only bond with water. The royals who wield dual elements are the only exception to this rule: for reasons unknown, a duel-wielder is able to bond with any Nalnix they choose, regardless of the Nalnix's elemental affinity. A bond with a Nalnix is more or less a standard imprinting, but in addition to fierce loyalty and protective instincts toward the Zeikala they view as a parental figure, a bonded Nalnix will be able to understand their master's speech (although they are unable to respond in any coherent way and often aren't bright enough to even consider replying via body language or meaningful vocalizations). Unbonded Nalnix are used for public transportation and rented out temporarily to travelers.
Ollos - Malor Max speed: 70 mph, 50 in mountain terrain Malor dwell in caves on the rocky mountainsides of Ollos. The Nairris have kept them as mounts and livestock for many years, although the breeds used as livestock have thick, luxuriant fur covering their entire bodies from head to toe and much shorter horns. Their feet are adapted to steep cliffs and loose, rocky terrain, and they're able to scale thin ledges and treacherous rock faces that no Nairris would be able to reach without sophisticated mountain climbing gear. As mounts, Malor are somewhat unpredictable and require extensive breaking before they can be ridden. The gigantic curved horn that extends from their snout is broken off just above its base and filed down to a dull nub once the creature is deemed safe for riding. No Malor is ridden with its horn intact: the rider would be impaled repeatedly within seconds of reaching a trot. They are between four and six feet tall at the shoulder.
- #10The Gods
Keys: Nivette, the gods, creators, deities, divine creators, Uulori, Zerse, Xelus, Gods, Ailekari, Peixes · Secondary: goddess of Aetahalla, God of Ollos, goddess of Eidira, Divine bastards, Goddess of Danalnor, neglectful deities, God of Audela, God of Eovai
Aetahalla - Nivette Goddess of the Sands and Sea, depicted in ancient artworks as a shapely woman with her legs cut off above the knee and two sentient armored blades in place of her right arm. Blunt and cold, she never says more than five or six words at a time.
Audela - Uulori Hailed as the God of Life and Nature, he remains cooly oblivious to any such claims. He is tall, thin and slight of build. This is the only God with wings, though they're small and hover just behind his ankles. The Wrirei represent him as a blonde man with blue eyes. It's been said that his gaze is unrelenting and intense. He's one of the few Gods who prefers not to involve himself with his creations unless he absolutely must. He speaks in a condescending though sometimes difficult to unders+and manner.
Danalnor - Ailekari Represented as the Goddess of Peace and Beauty, she is closely tuned in with her creations. Her skin is the soft pink of a morning sunrise and her hair the hue of the clouds. She has a pleasant demeanor and is the bubbliest of all the Gods. Small pointed horns grace her head but the Seini have chosen to hide them over the ages. When she speaks her voice increases in volume at the end of each sentence. She is currently banished to the Abyss. It is a place that exists outside the realms of time and space.
Eidira - Zerse A six-armed goddess of Lust and Destruction. She's manipulative to the extreme and will go to any lengths to exact revenge when slighted. She speaks in a very precise and proper manner and does not use contractions or slang. Huge bitch bluh bluh.
Eovai - Peixes A rather mysterious God of Storms and Bounty about whom little is known. The images created in his likeness show as a wise-looking man with a short goatee wearing elaborate flowing robes in bright colors. He speaks exclusively in cryptic and nigh undecipherable verses from his holy scripture, which ancient scribes laboriously copied onto a storage room's worth of stone tablets and later dismissed as complete gibberish.
Ollos - Xelus The God of Death. His followers represent him as a finely chiseled man with dark grey skin and hair. His eyes are pure white and one of them is scarred and caught in an endless state of pouring blood. The people claim he bleeds to remind them of their mortality. His right arm is devoid of flesh, revealing the veins, tendons, and muscle inside it. He speaks in a ... hesitant way, typically acting before formulating his thoughts.
