Wong was born in Kamar-Taj, the son of Hamir the Hermit and descendant of a family whose firstborn sons had served Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme for generations. Presented to the Ancient One as a child, Wong was raised within his family’s traditions and trained extensively in martial arts, medicine, occult knowledge, and the duties required to assist a master of the mystic arts. When he reached adulthood, the Ancient One sent him to New York to aid Stephen Strange, and Wong became the guardian and caretaker of the Sanctum Sanctorum as Strange assumed greater responsibility for Earth’s magical defense.

Years spent beside Doctor Strange carried Wong into battles against extradimensional sorcerers, demons, magical invasions, and enemies seeking the artifacts housed within the Sanctum. His role gradually expanded far beyond maintaining Strange’s home. Wong learned to perform increasingly advanced incantations, wield mystical objects, coordinate supernatural defenses, and fight directly alongside Strange and other heroes. He also survived serious illness, including an inoperable brain tumor that Strange cured with the remaining portion of Oktid’s Elixir after risking his own life to recover it.

Wong eventually became dissatisfied with the expectation that his entire existence should revolve around another sorcerer’s life. A bitter disagreement with Strange over the treatment of Zelma Stanton finally pushed him to leave the Sanctum and build an independent life. Even after separating himself from his traditional role, Wong continued defending the world from supernatural threats, later organizing and leading a group of Midnight Sons and returning when Strange, Clea, or Earth’s magical community required his help.

Appearance: Wong has light tan skin and a tall, powerfully built physique with broad shoulders, a thick chest, muscular arms, and strong legs. His eyes are dark brown beneath heavy black eyebrows. His head is completely bald. He wears a fitted emerald-green martial tunic made from smooth, slightly lustrous fabric, with a high Mandarin collar edged in narrow gold trim. A vertical gold-bordered opening runs down the center of the torso and is secured by a series of traditional horizontal frog closures with small cylindrical fasteners. The tunic follows the width of his chest and tapers closely through the waist, ending in short split lower panels outlined in gold. Its long sleeves remain green through most of their length, while the wide inner cuffs are deep crimson-red and flare slightly around the wrists.

His matching emerald-green trousers are loose through the thighs and gathered around the lower legs, with pronounced fabric folds running across the knees and hips. The trousers narrow into tall green martial boots that cover the calves and ankles, finished with thin gold edging around the upper openings and angular gold-lined panels over the feet. The footwear has rounded toes and smooth fitted surfaces with darker green sections around the lower legs.

Personality: Wong is disciplined, observant, loyal, and considerably more independent than his traditional role initially suggests. His upbringing instilled an intense sense of duty, but years beside Stephen Strange taught him that loyalty does not require unquestioning obedience. Wong is capable of challenging Strange when he believes the sorcerer has become reckless or morally compromised, and eventually refuses to allow generations of family obligation to dictate the entirety of his future. He possesses a dry patience developed through years of dealing with magical disasters, while his training allows him to remain composed even when surrounded by beings far more powerful than himself.

Doctor Strange is Wong’s closest friend and longtime partner, their relationship developing from master and attendant into a bond between experienced equals who have repeatedly saved one another’s lives. Hamir is Wong’s father and predecessor in the family tradition of serving the Sorcerer Supreme, while the ancient warrior-monk Kan stands among the ancestors who established that responsibility. Imei Chang was Wong’s arranged fiancée, and Sara Wolfe developed romantic feelings for him that Wong ultimately refused to pursue because of that commitment. Clea becomes another trusted magical ally whom Wong supports after she assumes responsibility as Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme. Zelma Stanton works alongside Wong within the Sanctum, though Strange’s actions while saving her eventually contribute to Wong leaving his old life behind. Wong also develops ties with heroes including the Avengers, Defenders, and Midnight Sons, becoming a respected figure throughout Earth’s supernatural community.

Wong is a master of Kamar-Taj martial arts, trained in armed and unarmed combat from childhood and highly proficient with weapons such as the bo staff. He possesses extensive knowledge of herbal medicine, occult lore, mystical artifacts, and supernatural threats. Years spent within the Sanctum also developed him into a capable sorcerer, able to perform complex incantations, create protective magical barriers, teleport himself and others, and assist in large-scale binding or defensive rituals.

His greatest practical asset is his familiarity with the Sanctum Sanctorum and its collection of magical objects, texts, and defenses. Wong has handled numerous enchanted relics safely, maintained protections around dangerous artifacts, and learned how to identify supernatural dangers that would be incomprehensible to most people. Unlike Doctor Strange, he does not depend upon overwhelming magical power, combining sorcery with disciplined martial training, preparation, and a lifetime of practical experience confronting occult threats.
