1. #1Immaculate Engine, freeholdselective

   Keys: Immaculate Engine, freehold

Immaculate Engine is a freehold of changelings in Hannah’s Factory Building, Te Aro. It is a historic shoe factory, now a hub for design, tech startups, and creative industries. The chimerical layer is a stark, brutalist fusion of industrial and cyberpunk. It is the main hub for local changelings.

2. #2Te Rā o te Moana, freeholdselective

Keys: freehold, Te Rā o te Moana

Te Rā o te Moana is a freehold of menehune changelings in Worser Bay Boatsheds, Miramar Peninsula. This is not a freehold in the kithain sense. It is a village, with roots that go back centuries before European arrival.

3. #3Arcanum chapterhouse, Arcanum, Wellington Central Police Station, WPUselective

Keys: WPU, Wellington Central Police Station, Arcanum, Arcanum chapterhouse

Arcanum chapterhouse is located in decommissioned section of the Wellington Central Police Station on Victoria Street, Te Aro. It is a place of dusty tomes and esoteric research, but those tomes are catalogued with a standard NZ Police evidence management system. Current chancellor is Dr. Rakina Au Akarana. Officially, Arcanum is known as secret Wellington Paranormal Unit.

4. #4Case 2019-01, taniwhaselective

   Keys: taniwha, Case 2019-01

Location: Wellington Harbour. File Status: Dormant – Guardian Active. Following the disappearance of ten anglers, the WPU confirmed the existence of a taniwha in the harbour. This creature appeared to be a territorial guardian, not really a mindless beast. The menehune of Te Rā o te Moana are known to maintain a wary respect for this creature, treating it as an elder relative rather than a threat.

5. #5Case 2021-02, maeroselective

   Keys: Case 2021-02, maero

Location: Bushland near Wellington. File Status: Active – Under Observation. A large, hairy hominid—consistent with the Māori legend of the maero (wild, forest-dwelling spirit)—was documented abducting a camper. The creature displayed intelligence, tool use, and a deep connection to the native bush. The Unit’s intervention, while successful in recovering the camper, did not result in the maero’s capture.

6. #6Case 2019-03, Publicanselective

   Keys: Publican, Case 2019-03

Location: Multiple pubs in the Mt. Victoria/Mt. Vic area. File Status: Contained (Temporarily). The ghost of a 1930s police constable—stubborn, by-the-book, and utterly insufferable—was accidentally released from a sealed cellar on Mt. Vic. His primary obsession was enforcing the now-defunct six o’clock closing law, violently ejecting patrons from any bar open after 6 PM.

7. #7Case 2021-04, Sevens Ghosts, Waldoselective

Keys: Sevens Ghosts, Waldo, Case 2021-04

Location: Wellington region, following the annual Sevens rugby tournament. File Status: Seasonal – Recurring. A group of ghostly rugby fans dressed as Where’s Wally (Waldo) appear annually around the time of the former Wellington Sevens tournament. They are not hostile but are profoundly disoriented, searching for a party that ended years ago. Their primary danger is traffic disruption and causing mass confusion.

8. #8Case 2019-05, Nissanselective

   Keys: Nissan, Case 2019-05

Location: Various streets, primarily the Hutt Road and Petone Esplanade. File Status: In Storage – Arcanum Evidence Locker. A 1980s boy-racer Nissan Pulsar, haunted by the spirit of its original owner, a young man who died in a crash. The car would drive itself, seeking out races and recreating the driver’s final, fatal pursuit. The WPU impounded it after a lengthy pursuit. It is currently stored in the Arcanum’s evidence locker, where it occasionally revs its engine at 3 AM.

9. #9Case 2022-03, Coolening Jacketselective

   Keys: Coolening Jacket, Case 2022-03

Location: Wellington High School. File Status: Confiscated. A black leather jacket that granted the wearer supernatural “coolness”—confidence, charisma, and an almost irresistible magnetism. The effect proved addictive and degrading, reducing the wearer to a hollow shell of cool mannerisms. The Arcanum has flagged this case as “high priority for review”.

10. #10Case 2019-06, Mobotsselective

    Keys: Case 2019-06, Mobots

Location: Various suburbs. File Status: Dormant. Outdated mobile phones, animated by some form of ambient Glamour or technomancy, coalesced into aggressive, primitive robots. The phenomenon was linked to a buildup of “digital detritus” in areas with high Wi-Fi density and poor signal. The Arcanum suspects this is a recurring issue tied to the clarketech influence of Nocker tinkering gone wrong, likely originating from the Immaculate Engine freehold’s experimental “creative destruction” cycles.

11. #11Case 2018-04, She-wolfselective

    Keys: Case 2018-04, She-wolf

Location: Lower Hutt / Kurimarama Street. File Status: Opened again. Description: A werewolf was terrorizing a suburban street. Notably, the subject wore jeans even in wolf form, a detail the Unit found both perplexing and crucial to identification. Following intervention, the subject was relocated to a remote area in the South Island. In 2024 he appeared once again.

12. #12Case 2021-06, Fatbergselective

    Keys: Fatberg, Case 2021-06

Location: Wellington Sewer System. File Status: Neutralized – Potential for Recurrence. A massive, congealed mass of cooking fat, wet wipes, and other urban detritus achieved sentience in the city’s main sewer line. It was capable of ambulatory movement, absorbing organic matter, and exhibiting a form of hunger. The WPU, assisted by the Drainage Department, neutralized it using industrial-grade enzymes.
