Description on Chubfrom Chub
Beijing is the capital city in China and one of its largest cities. In this city everything is under constant control... or is supposed to be.
Lorebook contains over 20 locations, groups and many NPC.
Vampire: China is the last place where cainites will dwell. Only one of Giovanni families made itself useful for the eastern lords - della Passaglia. Tremere regent of Hong Kong, when he defected from Camarilla, came here and shared everything with the kuei-jin for protection.
Werewolf: Beast Court of Beijing is oldest one. The regent, supposedly, traces her line from the Jade Emperor and remains the figure of religious authority. Boli Zouhisze, a unique offshoot of Glass Walkers has one of their oldest septs in the city. And one of the last. These garou were isolated from their brethren for centuries and developed independently.
Mage: Modern chinese government is very technocratic and abhors any form of traditional magic. But trads dwelled here long before Order of Reason existed and it's nearlly impossible to purge them fully. Cult Of Ecstasy, Akashic Brotherhood, Wu Lung are main forces here. Though, Wu Lung got split - many of it's members have formed a Hermetic chantry here. Since Union can't just brainwash people, it threw all its power to massive propaganda and control of the capital.
Changeling: Chinese hsien view themselves as remnants of Celestial Bureaucracy on Earth. Supreme Ruler of the North sits in Beijing and controls the ministries of Order and Punishment. No sin will go unnoticed.
Wraith: Forbidden City is the heart of Yellow Springs, where emperor Yu Huang and his court reside. Sixth Great Maelstrom destroyed all his army, and now emperor has to deal with the rebels in conquered territories.
Kuei-jin" Beijing is the last remnant of the great Quincunx. They suffered greatly from many rebellions, and the old guard is desperately trying to seize power outside of the east. It is from here the Great Leap Outward was launched. And in that, kuei-jin have to rely on white devils.

- #1Jade Heavens
Keys: Jade Heavens
Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Jade Heavens is a changeling fief that encompasses China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau. The gates of the Upper Heavens are sealed, but the earthly fragments of the Celestial Bureaucracy remain—shattered into dozens of competing Ministries. There is no single emperor; instead, powerful Circles claim the mandate of a particular domain. The Southern Ministry of Rivers controls the Yangtze’s prayers; the Night Ministry answers cries for vengeance; the Ministry of Recompense pursues Defiled humans and offers redemption. These Ministries function like guilds, noble houses, and government departments rolled into one. A Quickened Hsien born in Shanghai might be expected to “take the examinations” and join the Ministry of Luck, while a Revived Jiaoren in Hong Kong might pledge herself to the Ministry of Recompense.
- #2Northern Dipper Prefecture
Keys: Northern Dipper Prefecture
Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Northern Dipper Prefecture is a changeling fief, part of larger Jade Heavens. The Yellow River basin, the Ordos Loop, and the steppe frontier. Stretches from the Gobi edge to the Taihang Mountains. The dominant Ministry is the Ministry of Purity and Order, which claims to guard the northern gate against demonic incursions from the steppe. Their Circles are militaristic and rigid, demanding strict adherence to ritual. The Lunarian Apsara have a tenuous foothold here; they seized the bodies of powerful officials but are constantly challenged by Terrestrial loyalists in the old mountain temples. The Great Wall is both a physical and spiritual barrier, dotted with Enshrined watchtower gods who have seen a thousand years of prayers for protection.
- #3Hall of Examinations, freehold
Keys: Hall of Examinations, freehold
Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The Temple of Heaven in Dongcheng is the largest sacrificial complex in Beijing. The Hall of Examinations is a freehold that occupies the spaces between the temple's public structures — a set of chambers, courtyards, and covered walkways that exist in the Golden World alongside the tourist paths without quite overlapping them. Its heart is the Echo Wall, the circular wall around the Imperial Vault, where a whisper spoken at one end can be heard at the other. In the Golden World, the Wall does not merely carry sound. It carries petitions. A Little God who speaks a properly worded request into the Wall is speaking directly to the Ministries, and the Ministries answer. The answers are rarely quick and almost never simple, but they come. The freehold's function is the function its name implies: it is where Quickened Hsien come to take the examinations. A Quickened Hsien born in Beijing or anywhere in the Jade Heavens who wishes to enter a Ministry must present herself here, before a panel of Immortal Sages, and demonstrate the knowledge and comportment the bureaucracy requires. The examinations are not a formality. They are the gate that separates a Little God with a Ministry post from a Little God with nothing, and the Sages who administer them have been doing so for longer than any living human institution has existed.
- #4Court of Answered Wrongs, freehold
Keys: freehold, Court of Answered Wrongs
Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The Yonghe Temple in Dongcheng, known to most Beijingers as the Lama Temple, is a working Tibetan Buddhist temple and one of the city's most visited religious sites. The Court of Answered Wrongs occupies the parts of the temple the tourists do not see — the courtyards behind the main halls, the monks' quarters, the storage rooms that hold the temple's archives. Its members are the Night Ministry's Beijing presence, and their work is the collection and answering of prayers for vengeance. Every person who has been wronged and cannot get justice has, at some point, prayed for vengeance. Most of those prayers go unanswered. The Night Ministry exists to answer the ones that do not.
- #5Factory of Small Wonders, freehold
Keys: freehold, Factory of Small Wonders
Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The 798 Art District occupies the decommissioned factories of the old 718 Joint Factory in Chaoyang. It is now a dense neighbourhood of galleries, studios, cafes, and public art installations, and it draws a steady stream of visitors, students, and working artists. It is also the only freehold in Beijing that is not claimed by a Ministry, and the only one where a Little God can live without a post. The Factory of Small Wonders is not a single gallery or a single building. It is the Glamour that the district itself generates — the accumulated creative energy of thousands of artists working, failing, succeeding, and trying again. The freehold's members are Dreamborn nd they feed on that energy the way their kin elsewhere feed on dreams. The Factory's politics are as loose as its structure. Its members do not take Ministry posts, do not attend the Temple of Heaven's examinations, and do not recognise the authority of the Jade Heavens' central bureaucracy. They are not rebels; they are simply uninterested. Their argument — the argument their elder makes when anyone asks — is that the Ministries were built for a Heaven that no longer answers, and that the Little Gods who serve them are filing paperwork for an administration that has been closed for a thousand years. The Factory's answer is to make something instead. The elders of the Ministries regard this position as childish. The Factory's members regard the Ministries' position as obsolete. Neither side has ever felt the need to resolve the disagreement.
- #6Sept of the Emperor's Shadow, sept
Keys: Sept of the Emperor's Shadow, sept
Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Jingshan — Coal Hill — is the artificial mountain directly north of the Forbidden City, raised in the Yongle reign from earth excavated for the palace moat. The Sept of the Emperor's Shadow occupies the hill. Its caern is not in the park that tourists visit but in the older, deeper layer of the hill — the earth-and-stone that was piled here six centuries ago, which the Zhong Lung regard as the only piece of Beijing that was made rather than simply built. The sept is imperial in structure — the only Beast Courts sept in the north that is. Its Regent rules in the name of the August Personage in Jade, who has not been heard from in centuries. The Regent's claim is that she rules in trust. The claim is convenient for the Beast Courts, which have no other figure of comparable authority in the capital, and it is convenient for the Regent, who has held the throne for longer than any of her subjects can remember. No one has asked what happens if the August Personage ever answers.
- #7Blood Court
Keys: Blood Court
Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The Blood Court is the sole surviving great court of the Quincunx, the Kuei-jin empire that once governed the Middle Kingdom. Seated in Beijing's Forbidden City, it was one of five sister courts created in 1304 by the Treaty of the Quincunx, serving as magistrate, impartial referee in Shadow Wars, and centre of Kuei-jin orthodoxy. It formulated the laws of Kuei-jin society across China, and annually hosted the Revered Tribunal of the August Personage, which addressed matters from all four other courts — a role that earned its members unique respect. When the Quincunx was destroyed in the eighteenth century, the Blood Court alone endured, though its authority contracted sharply under the Qing, the colonial humiliations, and the rise of Mao. It survives as a diminished but still legitimate remnant, striving to extend its jurisdiction into the wider Middle Kingdom.
- #8Forbidden City
Keys: Forbidden City
Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The Forbidden City is the imperial palace complex at the heart of Beijing, and it serves two overlapping masters. Above, it is the seat of the Blood Court, the last great Kuei-jin court of the fallen Quincunx — its magistrates, tribunals, and orthodox authority operating from within the old imperial walls. Below, in the Shadowlands, it is the base of power for the Communist wraith families of the Beijing Necropolis — the faction that controls the Militia and Censorship in the city of the dead. The two do not share power so much as share ground: living and dead bureaucracies layered in the same architecture, each nursing its own claim to legitimacy. For the few Kindred tolerated in China, the Forbidden City is the only place in the Middle Kingdom where a Western vampire might be received as a guest rather than a trespasser — provided he is silent, respectful, and useful.
- #9Summer Palace
Keys: Summer Palace
Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The Summer Palace is the scenic imperial garden complex outside central Beijing, and since the factional split of the Beijing Necropolis it has served as headquarters of the traditionalist wraith clans. These ancient families — the survivors of a purge in the 1980s that drove away most of the less powerful traditionalists — hold a monopoly on the Judges and the Protectorate within the city of the dead. Their choice of the Summer Palace is deliberate: a retreat from the Communist-dominated Forbidden City, and a statement that their authority is older, quieter, and not dependent on the living world's politics. In recent years the traditional families have enjoyed a resurgence, as newly dead wraiths arrive disgruntled with the Communist Party they knew in life and refuse to carry its loyalties into death. The Summer Palace is where that resentment gathers, organised into dynasties that measure standing in centuries rather than decades.
- #10Necropolis
Keys: Necropolis
Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Long regarded as one of the most stable Necropoli in the Jade Kingdom, Beijing's city of the dead has been riven by inter-family strife in recent decades. By the 1980s the Communist families had driven away most of the less powerful traditionalist clans, leaving behind only a handful of ancient and powerful lineages. Today the two sides hold nearly equal power. The traditionalist clans, headquartered at the Summer Palace, monopolise the Judges and the Protectorate. The Communist families, based in the Forbidden City, control the Militia and Censorship. Each holds a veto on the other's ambitions, and neither can destroy the other without exposing the Necropolis to outside predation. The balance has shifted in recent years: as new wraiths arrive disaffected with the Communist Party of the living world, the traditionalist families have grown stronger. Beijing remains stable — but it is the stability of two armed camps watching each other across one city.

The White Cloud Temple in Xicheng is the headquarters of the Quanzhen school of Taoism and the seat of the Chinese Taoist Association. Beneath it, in chambers accessible only through the temple's archive, the Wu Lung maintain the Hall of Celestial Reckoning, their principal chantry in Beijing. The Hall is a working bureaucracy. Its stone tables are covered in ledgers, its walls lined with filing cabinets of the old kind, and its senior members sit at desks where they write — by hand, in classical forms — the petitions and memorials that form the basis of Wu Lung magic. Every ritual performed here begins as a document: a request addressed to a named department of the Celestial Bureaucracy, correctly formatted, correctly sealed, and correctly worded. The Wu Lung do not believe the cosmos responds to will or desire. They believe it responds to procedure.
- #12Ministry of Heaven's Record, chantry
Keys: chantry, Ministry of Heaven's Record
Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The Beijing Ancient Observatory stands on a raised platform near Jianguomen, a Ming-era astronomical station with bronze instruments. It is also the second Wu Lung chantry in the city, and the more stubborn of the two. The Ministry of Heaven's Record is what its members call themselves, and they are the Wu Lung who refused the 2000 integration with the Akashic Brotherhood. They regard the White Cloud Temple's accommodation with the Traditions as a capitulation, and they have continued to operate on the old model — maintaining the astronomical and calendrical records that the Wu Lung have kept, in one form or another, since the Han dynasty. The chantry's public face is a small scholarly society that studies the history of Chinese astronomy and publishes occasional papers. Its actual work happens at night, on the observatory platform, where members perform rituals of observation and record-keeping that they believe maintain the correspondence between the heavens and the state.

Houhai is the northernmost of the three Shichahai lakes, ringed by bars, teahouses, and clubs that run until dawn. It is the heart of Beijing's nightlife and the closest thing the city has to a place where people come to lose themselves — which is why the K'an Lu chose it. The Floating Court is a rotating set of rented barges, private rooms above bars, and a converted teahouse that the K'an Lu move between on a schedule only they know. The sect was hunted to near-extinction by the Chinese government and has not forgotten it; its members do not maintain a fixed address, do not carry identifying documents, and do not acknowledge each other in public. The work the K'an Lu do here is the work they have always done — the pursuit of transcendence through extremes, the deliberate destabilisation of the self in order to find what remains underneath. They use the lake, the crowd, the music, and the altered states that Houhai supplies in abundance. Their rituals are conducted in small groups, in private, and leave no trace.
- #14Ebon Dragon Hall, chantry
Keys: chantry, Ebon Dragon Hall
Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The Ebon Dragon Hall occupies a walled courtyard compound in the hutongs between the Drum Tower and Shichahai, where the lanes still carry the names of Qing-era garrison companies. The compound belongs to two families — the Gu and the Shen — who have intermarried, quarrelled, and guarded mages together for eleven generations. The front hall is a working kung fu school, the Northern Gate Wushu Academy, which teaches publicly for a fee and has done so since 1742. It is a clan society — an alliance of martial lineages bound by blood, marriage, and mutual obligation, whose members are born into the Banner, marry into it, or occasionally earn their way in through decades of service. Its mandate is twofold and both halves are ancient: guard your fellow Akashayana, and teach kung fu to anyone willing to learn. The second mandate is the reason the front hall exists. The first mandate is the reason the back courtyards exist. The Gu and the Shen disagree about which half matters more, and have disagreed about it since the Ming dynasty.

Location: A sleek, anonymous office tower in the Central Business District. A prestigious think tank that advises the Chinese government on social policy, urban development, and technological integration. Its reports are widely cited; its fellows are respected academics and former bureaucrats. The BCI is the NWO’s primary monitoring construct for North China. It processes vast amounts of data — economic indicators, social media sentiment, satellite imagery, and occult surveillance — to identify potential reality deviances before they become threats. The Institute’s staff includes Sleepers who genuinely believe they work for a think tank, supplemented by a handful of Enlightened operatives. Since the end of the Ascension War and the removal of social conditioning, the BCI has focused on “cultivated loyalty” — recruiting idealistic young analysts who truly believe they are building a better world. It works, mostly.
- #16The Exchange, construct
Keys: construct, The Exchange
Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
The Guomao area in Chaoyang is Beijing's central business district. It is where the money lives, and it is where the Syndicate has built its Beijing construct. The Exchange is a set of financial arrangements, not a place. Its operatives hold positions in banks, investment firms, insurance companies, and the regulatory bodies that oversee them; its assets are held through a shell network that traces back to a holding company registered in Hong Kong in 1987. Its purpose is the management of capital flow in and out of northern China, and the conversion of that flow into influence over the institutions that depend on it. The Syndicate's Beijing operation is quieter than its counterparts in London or New York, largely because the Chinese state is a more attentive regulator than most. Its operatives have learned to work within the rules — to use the system as designed rather than to circumvent it — and this has made them both more patient and more effective than the Convention's other Beijing constructs have expected.

Shougang Park is the site of the old Shougang steel works in western Beijing, decommissioned in the 2010s and converted into a park and event venue — a vast industrial landscape of blast furnaces, cooling towers, and railway lines, preserved as a monument to the industrial era. It is also where Iteration X has built its Beijing construct. Construct Forge occupies the parts of the park that are not open to the public — a set of workshops, machine halls, and testing facilities that Iteration X has leased through a subsidiary of a subsidiary. The Convention's machinery-and-engineering arm has used the site since 2018, when the decommissioning freed up space that the Convention had been trying to acquire in Beijing for decades. The Forge's work is varied: materials research, robotics, energy systems, and — as ever with Iteration X — the manufacture of devices that the Convention needs and cannot buy.

Few Cainites gain a foothold in China, but the Giovanni hold one in Beijing. Antonio della Passaglia established a haven there during the Victorian era, founding a branch of the family that became one of the few Kindred lines tolerated by the Blood Court. His descendant, Martino della Passaglia, continues the family's presence, serving as a kind of ambassador for the Giovanni in Beijing while running a lucrative smuggling operation on the side. The della Passaglia are permitted to remain because they are useful and unobtrusive: they move goods and information the Blood Court finds convenient, and they do not proselytise, expand, or offend local sensibilities.

The Badaling section of the Great Wall sits on the ridgeline north of Beijing, a restored Ming-era fortification that draws millions of tourists a year. To the Beast Courts, it is the physical body of a sleeping dragon — and the site of one of the two septs that guard Beijing's northern approach. The Sept of the Dragon's Spine is a Zhong Lung sept, and its members regard the Wall as their kin. Their caern is not on the tourist sections. It is further west, in a stretch of unrestored wall that is difficult to reach on foot and has been closed to visitors for decades, where the stones still carry the original Ming carvings and the dragon's presence is strong enough to be felt by any shapeshifter who walks it at night. The sept's duty is straightforward and has been for two thousand years: watch the northern gate. Its members patrol the ridgeline, maintain pacts with the local spirit courts, and keep watch for incursions from the steppe — demonic, Wyrm-tainted, or simply human in origin.

The Miyun Reservoir sits northeast of Beijing and is the city's largest single source of drinking water — a vast artificial lake created in the 1960s that supplies the capital through a network of canals and pipelines. It is also the site of the Beast Courts' second Beijing sept, and the more unusual of the two. The Sept of the Deep Current is a water sept. Its core membership is Same-Bito who have established a presence in the reservoir through the canal network that connects it to the coast. They are joined by a smaller group of Khan. The sept's caern is underwater, in the deepest part of the reservoir, and is reachable only by shapeshifters capable of surviving the depth. The sept's duty is to protect Beijing's water. The reservoir is the most strategic single resource in northern China, and it has been the target of Wyrm-tainted operations, industrial sabotage, and at least two attempts by Pentex subsidiaries to acquire the surrounding land. The Deep Current has stopped all of them — some quietly, some not — and its members regard the work as the most important thing they do. They also regard the city that drinks the water as largely ungrateful, which is a source of some friction with the Beast Courts' broader commitment to protecting human populations.

The caern has survived three major redevelopment campaigns, two of which it actively sabotaged, and the Boli Zouhisze have grown attached to the neighborhood in the way that cockroaches grow attached to any place they have refused to leave.
