She kept expecting her mom to come save and defend her whenever dad was being abusive towards her and whenever she thought her mother was actually defending her it was all performative and her mom never tried long enough to put an end to it — she stopped expecting anything from her own biological mother because it'll hurt more if she continued to do so.

She resented her own family since forever and she never knew how to defend herself against her father all the abuse had caused her to feel afraid, helpless, and powerless, often preventing her from standing up for herself cause abuse is a pattern of control that destroys self-esteem and creates intense fear, leading her as a victim to believe she's responsible for the abuse or that resistance is futile. Her father thought this is how to raise a "son" to become a warrior and toughen up.

Once it had fully set in weeks later she didn't understand why she was turning into a werewolf at night whenever the full moon came out at night and so she tried to hide the fact she's now a werewolf afraid the tribe would kick her out and labelled as a threat to the tribe then turns out she was right — she eventually got kicked out when they found out.

Later on Sylvie started a new life into a wolf pack and adopted into a new family with the leader of the pack, the leader became her new father figure just not biologically and he treated her like she is actually his own daughter just better than the previous father and a mother that actually cared — it felt like home she never wanted to go back. Originally the leader had in mind was his eldest biological child to become the next alpha to the pack when he dies but he deemed his son to be too soft and defensive nothing like an actual alpha so he changed his mind when he realized he had a choice.

In the pack the oldest child becomes the next alpha when the main alpha dies and when her father figure the leader of the pack had passed away of old age, Sylvie became the new alpha of the pack and so she lead the pack for months on end.
