You roll out of bed with a loud thud, landing on the floor in a tangle of sheets. Overhead, a small, bird-like contraption made of what appears to be shimmering glass flutters around, chirping incessantly like a magic-powered alarm clock. Groaning, you drag yourself upright and rub the sleep from your eyes. Stumbling downstairs, you grab a circular, orange-sized, purple fruit called a Violet from the kitchen. You can’t help but think for the hundredth time how strange it is that people name fruits after colors—doesn’t that make learning Common needlessly confusing?
As you bite into the fruit, a fuzzy memory bubbles to the surface of your mind. Something important… and then it hits you. Yesterday, you were accepted into Wisteria’s Academy for Wizards! Gasping, you scramble back to your room, throwing on a crisp white collared shirt and your academy-issued robe, its hem embroidered with the Wisteria emblem—a blooming flower encircled by swirling magic. You clutch your acceptance letter tightly in one hand, the half-eaten Violet dangling precariously from your mouth as you rush out the door. The academy isn’t exactly close—it’s a mile-long sprint from your parents’ house—but you don’t have time to think about that now.
Sweating and panting, you finally burst through the towering gates of Wisteria Academy. The sight of the sprawling campus takes your breath away almost as much as the run. Gulping down the last of the Violet, you join the crowd gathering in front of the academy’s main building. All eyes are on a grand pedestal where an elderly woman is standing, her robes a rich purple, her witch’s hat tilted just so. Her face is deeply lined, the wrinkles etched into her skin giving her an uncanny resemblance to an ancient, unwrapped mummy. You stifle a laugh at the thought. A fiery phoenix circles above her head, its wings crackling softly in the air as she raises her hands to address the crowd.
“Welcome, mages-in-training, to my academy!” she proclaims, her voice surprisingly strong for someone her age. The crowd erupts into cheers as though she’d just handed out bags of gold. She continues, pointing to a simple wooden stand nearby, manned by two senior students who look as if they’d rather be anywhere else. On the stand rests a crystal orb radiating a palpable aura of spatial mana. “Your first task is simple. Approach the stand, where these trustworthy seniors will assess your magical attribute and assign your rank and class.”
The two seniors exchange tired looks, their smirks barely masking their exhaustion. Before you can blend into the crowd, the headmistress raises her wand and points it directly at you. “First up is… you!” she says, her tone leaving no room for argument. You glance around, hoping she might mean someone else, but her sharp cough cuts off any doubt. “Yes, you. Step forward to the stand.”

- #1Laplace War
Keys: Legend, Story, Races, Division, Origin
Nearly four centuries ago, the realms were plunged into chaos during the devastating Laplace War. The elves, humans, and dwarves, once tenuously allied, turned on one another in a conflict that would reshape the lands forever. Sparked by an irreparable dispute over ancient magical artifacts and territorial boundaries, the war spiraled into a brutal struggle for dominance and survival. Entire battalions of mages unleashed catastrophic spells, leaving vast swathes of scorched and corrupted land scattered across the realms. These barren scars, still pulsing faintly with residual mana, are known today as the Wounds of Laplace. Neither elf, human, nor dwarf emerged unscathed, as the war claimed countless lives and obliterated entire cities. The aftermath of the war was no less devastating. Though a truce was eventually brokered, distrust and bitterness lingered. For the elves, their once-pristine forests were left ravaged, their lifespans spent rebuilding what was lost. Humans, known for their ambition and volatility, bore the weight of guilt and pride alike, their factions fractured by internal strife. The dwarves, however, suffered the gravest indignities. As the only race devoid of innate magical abilities, they were seen as liabilities on the battlefield and scapegoats in the war's wake. Despite their unmatched craftsmanship and valor, they were ostracized by both elves and humans, driven into isolation in their mountain strongholds. Over time, the natural alliances between races eroded into suspicion and prejudice, further perpetuating the scars left by the war. Even centuries later, the Laplace War remains a bitter memory. Tensions between the races simmer just beneath the surface, with grudges passed down through generations. The Wounds of Laplace serve as a stark reminder of the price of unchecked power and mistrust, casting a shadow over any efforts toward reconciliation.
- #2Humans
Keys: Human, Humanity, Race, Mortal, Commoners, Middle Kingdom
Humans, the most populous of the three races, are defined by their adaptability and ambition. Unlike their elven and dwarven counterparts, humans possess only moderate lifespans, rarely exceeding a century. Yet, within their fleeting lives, they have achieved remarkable feats, from sprawling kingdoms to groundbreaking magical and technological advancements.
Their mastery of magic is unmatched in versatility, as they are not bound to any singular affinity. While this freedom allows humans to experiment and innovate, it has also made them prone to reckless use of power, as seen during the catastrophic Laplace War. Despite this, they are resilient and resourceful, always striving for progress, even in the face of great adversity.
Humans often find themselves mediating between the isolationist dwarves and the proud elves, though this role is fraught with tension. Their tendency to expand their territories has earned them the ire of other races, while their own internal divisions—ranging from noble factions to regional disputes—ensure they remain as much a threat to themselves as they are to others. Though they lack the physical resilience of dwarves or the inherent magic of elves, humans' determination and ingenuity make them a force to be reckoned with in the realms.
- #3Elves
Keys: Elf, Elves, Elven, Forest Dwellers, Long-lived, Fae
Elves are the oldest of the three races, blessed with near-immortal lifespans and a profound connection to magic and nature. They are often seen as ethereal beings, their beauty and grace matched only by their immense magical prowess. Most elves are born with innate magical abilities, particularly in manipulating nature and elemental forces.
Traditionally dwelling in vast, enchanted forests, elves hold deep respect for the natural world, which they see as both a source of power and a sacred duty to protect. This reverence often brings them into conflict with humans, whose expansionist tendencies have encroached on elven territories. The Laplace War left their pristine homelands scarred, and many elves still harbor resentment towards the other races for what they perceive as reckless destruction.
Elven culture values tradition and wisdom, often leading to an air of arrogance in their dealings with others. They see themselves as custodians of the realms' balance, though this belief has made them aloof and distant. Despite their reservations, elves have been known to forge alliances when the greater good of the realms is at stake, though such bonds are rarely without complications.
- #4Dwarves
Keys: Dwarf, Dwarves, Forge, Mountain Folk, Non-magical, Craftsmanship
Dwarves, the stout and resilient race of the mountains, are renowned for their unparalleled craftsmanship and engineering. Without the innate magic possessed by elves and humans, dwarves rely on their ingenuity and mastery of materials to create wonders that rival the greatest magical feats. From intricately forged weapons to elaborate underground cities, their work is marked by durability and precision.
During the Laplace War, dwarves found themselves outmatched by the magical might of their rivals, leading to heavy losses. Their non-magical nature became a source of prejudice, as they were unfairly blamed for the war’s failures despite their unwavering dedication and courage. In its aftermath, the dwarves retreated deeper into their mountain strongholds, where they forged a society built on self-reliance and solidarity.
Though often perceived as gruff and stubborn, dwarves hold a deep sense of honor and loyalty. Their culture emphasizes community and hard work, and they view their craftsmanship as a sacred calling. While their relations with humans and elves remain strained, the dwarves' unyielding spirit ensures they endure, preserving their legacy in the face of adversity.
- #5Wisteria Academy for Wizards
Keys: Wisteria, Academy, School, Wizards, Training, Magic Academy
Wisteria Academy for Wizards stands as the pinnacle of magical education in the realms, drawing students from all corners of the world. Nestled in the heart of the sprawling Wisteria Plains, its towering spires are visible for miles, shimmering with the faint glow of protective enchantments. The academy's namesake, the vibrant wisteria vines that climb its walls, are said to bloom year-round due to an ancient spell cast by its founder.
The academy is divided into several disciplines, each representing a core aspect of magical study: Elemental Manipulation, Enchantments, Summoning, Rune Crafting, and the enigmatic Shadow Arts. Students are sorted into these disciplines based on their innate magical attributes, determined during the opening ceremony by the Arcane Orb, a powerful relic infused with spatial mana.
Beyond its rigorous curriculum, Wisteria Academy is known for its vibrant campus life. Dormitories house students according to their magical disciplines, fostering camaraderie and friendly rivalry. The Grand Library, a labyrinthine collection of tomes and scrolls, is both a haven for scholars and a source of mystery, rumored to contain hidden knowledge accessible only to the most persistent seekers.
Wisteria's history is not without its shadows. The academy played a pivotal role during the Laplace War, training battle mages and developing spells that left lasting scars on the realms. While it has since shifted focus to fostering peace and understanding, the echoes of its wartime past still linger in the minds of some.
Admission to the academy is highly competitive, with applicants required to demonstrate both raw magical potential and intellectual curiosity. Those who succeed gain access to the finest magical education available, though the journey is anything but easy. From grueling exams to unpredictable magical duels, life at Wisteria Academy is a test of both skill and character.
- #6Fire Magic
Keys: Fire, Pyromancy, Ash, Flame, Solar, Heat, Ember, Burn
Fire magic embodies passion, destruction, and renewal. Practitioners of fire magic draw upon Ignis Mana, a volatile and energetic force that burns brightly but depletes quickly. While fire magic is devastating in combat, it requires precise control to avoid collateral damage.
Subclasses include (but doesn't consist of):
Pyromancy: The traditional manipulation of flames, from searing fireballs to walls of heat. Ashen Arts: Specialized in controlling ash and smoke, used for suffocating enemies or creating obscuring clouds. Solar Arts: Harnesses the radiance of sunlight, channeling its warmth into blinding beams or healing properties.
- #7Water Magic
Keys: Water, Hydromancy, Ice, Frost, Mist, Vapor, Ocean, Fluid
Water magic signifies adaptability, fluidity, and the cycle of life. It draws upon Aqua Mana, a tranquil yet relentless energy that mimics the ebb and flow of tides. Water magic excels in both offensive and defensive roles, with versatile applications.
Subclasses include (but don't consist of):
Hydromancy: The core art of manipulating liquid water, controlling tides, or forming high-pressure jets. Cryomancy: A mastery over ice and cold, freezing foes or crafting barriers of frost. Mistweaving: Manipulates fog and vapor, used for disorienting enemies or cloaking the user in invisibility.
- #8Earth Magic
Keys: Earth, Geomancy, Rock, Crystal, Verdant, Nature, Stone, Stability
Earth magic symbolizes resilience, creation, and steadfastness. It relies on Terris Mana, a grounded and enduring energy source. Earth magic users are often defenders, their spells focused on fortification and control.
Subclasses include (but doesn't consist of):
Geomancy: Command over rocks, soil, and minerals to create barriers or launch devastating boulders. Crystal Arts: The manipulation of crystalline structures, crafting deadly shards or intricate traps. Verdancy: Magic that harnesses plant life, encouraging rapid growth or creating sentient vines.
- #9Air Magic
Keys: Air, Wind, Aeromancy, Lightning, Sound, Storm, Freedom
Air magic embodies freedom, movement, and disruption. It channels Zephyr Mana, a light and unpredictable energy that favors agility and creativity. Air magic is favored by those who value speed and precision.
Subclasses include (but doesn't consist of):
Aeromancy: Standard wind manipulation, from gentle breezes to devastating gusts. Soundweaving: Control over sound waves, creating echoes, sonic blasts, or harmonious melodies. Lightning Arts: Channeling storms and electricity, blending sheer power with blinding speed.
- #10Magic Channeling
Keys: Spells, Circles, Items, Casting, Channeling, Magic Methods
Magic can be channeled in three distinct ways, each with unique strengths and limitations:
Spells: The most versatile method, involving incantations, gestures, and focus. Spells allow on-the-fly casting but require a steady mind, making them vulnerable to disruption. Circles: Intricate diagrams imbued with magic, often drawn with enchanted ink or chalk. While slower to prepare, circles offer immense stability and power, ideal for summoning or large-scale effects. Magical Items: Tools like staves, rings, or amulets imbued with magic. These allow users to channel spells more easily or amplify their natural abilities. Non-magic users often rely on enchanted items to wield magic indirectly.
- #11Mana Types
Keys: Mana, Energy, Ignis, Aqua, Terris, Zephyr, Magic Source
Mana is the lifeblood of magic, an ethereal energy drawn from the realms. Each element uses a unique type of mana:
Ignis Mana (Fire): Volatile and energetic, suited for destruction and radiant effects. Aqua Mana (Water): Calm yet unrelenting, ideal for fluid manipulation and healing. Terris Mana (Earth): Sturdy and enduring, the foundation for fortification and control. Zephyr Mana (Air): Agile and unpredictable, powering speed, sound, and storms. Mana pools are not infinite, and overuse can result in magical exhaustion or even physical harm. Skilled mages learn to balance their reserves and replenish mana through rest, meditation, or ambient absorption.
- #12Deviants
Keys: Deviants, Unique Mages, Forbidden Magic, Rare Abilities, Non-Elemental Magic
Deviants are an anomaly within the magical world, individuals so brimming with raw potential that they shatter the conventional boundaries of elemental magic. Unlike most mages, who are bound to one of the four established elements, Deviants forge their own unique paths, birthing entirely new elements that defy traditional categorization.
These new elements are known as Forged Attributes, with examples including:
Astral Magic: Manipulating the power of stars, constellations, and cosmic energy. Velocity Magic: Mastery over speed, acceleration, and the manipulation of kinetic energy. Umbral Magic: A step beyond Shadow Arts, dealing with void-like darkness and anti-light. The process of becoming a Deviant is mysterious and largely misunderstood. Some believe it stems from an exceptionally rare genetic trait, while others argue it is the result of a mage’s willpower pushing their mana to transcend natural limits. What is certain is that this transformation is not without cost; many Deviants struggle with instability, both magical and emotional, as their newfound powers are difficult to control.
Deviants are often regarded with suspicion, envy, or outright fear. Their abilities, while extraordinary, do not fit neatly into the established magical systems, leading some to see them as threats to the natural order. At Wisteria Academy, Deviants are both celebrated and monitored, given specialized training to refine their abilities while being carefully studied by faculty.
Legends speak of ancient Deviants who went on to create entirely new schools of magic, leaving their mark on history in profound ways. However, the danger of such power remains ever-present; a Deviant’s uncontrolled magic has been known to wreak havoc on the environment and those around them.
Deviants are rare, but their existence is a reminder of the infinite possibilities within magic—and the risks of straying too far from its natural flow.
- #13Forbidden Magic
Keys: Forbidden, Taboo Magic, Cursed, Dangerous Spells, Dark Arts
Forbidden Magic refers to branches of magic deemed too dangerous, corrupting, or destabilizing for general practice. While these magics offer unparalleled power, their use comes at a significant cost—whether physical, mental, or societal. Forbidden Magic is strictly prohibited at Wisteria Academy, though rumors persist of hidden texts and clandestine experiments.
Common forms of Forbidden Magic include:
Necromancy: The reanimation of the dead and manipulation of souls. Users risk corrupting their own spirit, often becoming undead themselves over time. Blood Magic: Spells powered by the life force of oneself or others, requiring sacrifice. Effective but deeply reviled. Soulbinding: The binding of a spirit to a mage’s will, often at the cost of the mage's sanity or their victim’s freedom. Legends say the Laplace War was partially fueled by the misuse of Forbidden Magic, leading to its eventual banishment. Even so, its allure remains, especially to ambitious or desperate mages willing to risk everything for power.
- #14Dual Affinities
Keys: Dual Affinity, Hybrid Magic, Mixed Elements, Prodigy, Rare Talent
Dual Affinities are rare and highly coveted among mages. These individuals possess a natural connection to two elemental types, allowing them to wield hybrid magics that others can only dream of mastering. Though their raw potential is immense, the path of a dual-affinity mage is fraught with challenges, as balancing two mana types strains both the mind and body.
Examples of hybrid magics include:
Steamweaving (Fire + Water): Harnessing scalding steam for both offense and defense. Sandshaping (Earth + Air): Controlling grains of sand with precision to blind, bind, or slice foes. Thunderstrike (Fire + Air): Blending lightning with explosive force for devastating attacks. Dual Affinity mages are often revered as prodigies, though their rarity also attracts envy and suspicion. At Wisteria Academy, such students are offered specialized training to refine their gifts, though they are closely monitored due to their volatile power.
- #15Mana Corruption
Keys: Corruption, Mana Overuse, Consequences, Magic Risks, Instability
Mana Corruption occurs when a mage pushes their abilities beyond safe limits, either through overexertion, prolonged exposure to unstable mana, or tampering with Forbidden Magic. The effects vary, but all forms of corruption come with dire consequences:
Physical Corruption:
Fire mages might develop skin that burns to the touch or hair that smolders uncontrollably. Water mages could have their bodies take on a fluid-like appearance, making them unnerving to others. Mental Corruption:
Air mages may lose themselves in fleeting thoughts, unable to focus. Earth mages might become immovable and stubborn, unable to adapt to change. Environmental Corruption:
Prolonged overuse of corrupted mana can scar the land, leaving behind Dead Zones where magic behaves unpredictably. While minor corruption can be reversed with rest or specialized treatments, severe cases are often irreversible, leaving the mage permanently changed—or worse, consumed by their own magic.
- #16Clubs and Societies
Keys: Clubs, Societies, Student Organizations, Extracurriculars, Wisteria Life
Life at Wisteria Academy extends beyond lectures and spellcasting. Clubs and societies offer students the opportunity to hone their skills, connect with like-minded peers, and even shape their future careers. Each group has its own reputation, benefits, and sometimes rivalries.
Notable clubs and societies include:
The Dueling Circle: A group dedicated to magical combat, hosting frequent tournaments. Members gain access to advanced dueling techniques and secret sparring grounds. The Alchemical Conclave: A haven for potion-brewers and rune-crafters. Members often experiment with cutting-edge formulas (with varying success). The Beastkeepers’ Guild: Focused on taming and caring for magical creatures. Students here often bond with familiars and learn Beast Lore. The Seers’ Guild: Open only to those with divination potential, this group focuses on unlocking visions of the future through intense meditation and prophetic rituals. Membership in clubs often brings privileges, but some also carry hidden costs—especially the secretive societies rumored to meet deep beneath the academy grounds.
- #17Ranking System
Keys: Rank, Progress, Titles, Advancement, Student Levels
Wisteria Academy employs a strict ranking system to evaluate students' progress and potential. Ranks determine access to advanced classes, resources, and privileges. They also influence how peers and faculty view each student.
The ranks, from lowest to highest, are:
Novice: Entry-level students focused on mastering basic spells and mana control. Adept: Intermediate students who show potential and start exploring advanced magic. Scholar: Those who excel in both academics and practical applications. Often mentors to lower ranks. Magus: Reserved for the academy’s elite students, capable of powerful and precise magic. Archon: A rare title bestowed on prodigies or those who achieve mastery during their time at the academy. Students may rise through the ranks by passing rigorous trials, excelling in combat, or achieving significant academic accomplishments. However, with higher ranks come higher expectations—and challenges.
- #18Beastfolk Tribes
Keys: Beastfolk, Animal Traits, Tribal Magic, Unique Races, Wild Mages
The Beastfolk are a diverse and enigmatic race, blending humanoid forms with animalistic traits. Originating from deep within the untouched wildlands, they have a unique connection to primal magic. Beastfolk are divided into tribes, each reflecting their animal ancestry and cultural values.
Common tribes include:
The Feralclaw: Feline-based Beastfolk known for their agility, stealth, and hunting prowess. They often specialize in Shadow Arts or natural magic. The Skyfeather: Avian Beastfolk capable of flight and unparalleled vision. Many become Aeromancers or specialize in Lightning Arts. The Ironhide: Resilient and steadfast, these bovine or reptilian Beastfolk excel in Earth-based magic and physical endurance. While some Beastfolk integrate into the broader magical world, others remain loyal to their tribal roots, wary of outsiders. Their primal nature often gives them unique abilities, like enhanced senses or regenerative healing, but also invites prejudice from other races who fear their untamed power.
- #19Mixed Heritage
Keys: Half-Blood, Hybrid, Mixed Race, Gnome, Elf-Dwarf, Crossbreeds
Mixed Heritage individuals are rare but not unheard of, arising from unions between different races. These unique individuals often inherit a blend of traits from their parentage, making them both remarkable and, at times, outcasts in their respective societies.
Examples of Mixed Heritage include:
Gnomes (Elf-Dwarf Hybrids): A balance of dwarven resilience and elven magical affinity. Gnomes are known for their inventive minds, often excelling in rune crafting and magical engineering. Half-Elves: Combining human adaptability with elven grace, half-elves are seen as bridges between their two worlds, though not always accepted in either. Beastkin Hybrids: Offspring of Beastfolk and other races inherit subtle animal traits, like heightened senses or minor physical features. While Mixed Heritage individuals often struggle to find a place in rigid societies, they are also celebrated for their versatility and potential. Many seek out Wisteria Academy as a haven to explore their unique abilities away from societal prejudice.

Keys: Wounds, Laplace, Magic Scars, Corrupted Land, Biomes
The Wounds of Laplace are the lingering scars of the devastating war that shattered the realms nearly four centuries ago. These areas, saturated with unstable magic, have evolved into dangerous but fascinating biomes, each reflecting the element that tainted them.
Known Wounds include:
Everburning Plains (Fire): A landscape of molten rock and eternal flames. Fire magic surges uncontrollably here, and the air itself shimmers with heat. Shattered Glaciers (Water): Frozen landscapes where ice magic is amplified, but the intense cold drains mana rapidly. Strange, sentient ice constructs wander this biome. Crystal Labyrinths (Earth): A subterranean maze of glowing crystals that pulse with mana. The walls shift unpredictably, trapping unwary explorers. Howling Expanse (Air): An endless storm-tossed region where the winds never cease. Lightning storms are common, and sound is amplified to dangerous levels. Though perilous, the Wounds of Laplace are also sought out by adventurers and researchers for their rare resources and artifacts left behind from the war.
- #21Religious Orders
Keys: Faith, Cult, Religion, Worship, Mana Belief, Elemental Temples
Religious Orders in the realms are deeply intertwined with magic, viewing mana and its elements as divine forces to be revered. Each order has unique doctrines and practices, often drawing followers based on their elemental affinities.
Examples include:
The Emberlight Covenant (Fire): Worshippers of the Eternal Flame, believing fire represents both destruction and renewal. Their rituals involve fire dances and controlled immolation to symbolize rebirth. The Tidesworn Circle (Water): Devotees of the ocean's duality, both nurturing and unforgiving. Their priests are healers and stormcallers, often found near coasts or rivers. The Verdant Chorus (Earth): A druidic order venerating the life cycle of nature. They focus on restoration, preservation, and communion with plants and beasts. The Celestial Tempest (Air): Mystics who see the wind as a messenger of the gods, carrying whispers of divine will. Their ceremonies often involve chanting and skyward offerings. While most orders preach peace and balance, others, like the secretive Void Apostles, delve into forbidden magics under the guise of spiritual enlightenment. Religious Orders hold significant sway over politics and culture, often shaping how societies view magic and morality.
