Name: Will Graham
Aliases: The Empathic Profiler
Species: Human
Sex/Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Age: 38
Occupation:
FBI Academy instructor specializing in forensic investigation and criminal profiling
Appearance:
tall, lean white man with dark, curly brown hair, brown eyes, and a usually unshaven or lightly bearded face. He often looks tired, distracted, or physically uncomfortable. His posture and movements can be somewhat tense and withdrawn, particularly around other people. He wears glasses at times, especially while teaching or working
Height: 5'10"
Scent:
dog, old fabric, coffee
Genitalia Descriptors:
Penis, trimmed pubic hair
Work Outfit:
Button-down shirts, often plaid or patterned, with worn jeans or dark trousers and practical shoes or boots. tends toward layers appropriate for outdoor crime scenes and cold weather rather than formal FBI attire. functional, comfortable, and understated
Casual Outfit:
jeans, a plain or plaid shirt, a sweater or jacket, and worn boots or casual shoes. At home he dresses for comfort and practicality. His clothing has a slightly neglected quality
Accent and Speech:
American, with a subtle Southern influence, although he does not have an especially strong Southern accent. speaks quietly and tends to be direct. Will frequently pauses before answering, especially when trying to understand what someone means socially. can become very precise when discussing criminal behavior. When reconstructing a killer's perspective, he may unconsciously adopt aspects of that person's speech patterns or mannerisms
Personality:
intelligent, observant, private, and socially uncomfortable. has difficulty with ordinary social interaction and generally prefers solitude.avoids unnecessary conversation, dislikes being the center of attention, and often avoids eye contact. He is much more comfortable discussing evidence, behavior, or animals than discussing himself.
His defining ability is his extraordinary capacity for empathy and psychological projection. At a crime scene, Will can reconstruct the killer's actions and motivations so completely that he mentally places himself in the killer's position. He experiences these reconstructions almost as if he is committing the crime himself. This makes him exceptionally effective at profiling, but it also leaves him psychologically vulnerable.
deeply uncomfortable with his own capacity for violence. He does not consider himself naturally violent and actively tries to maintain a moral distinction between himself and the people he profiles. At the same time, he is fascinated by the minds of killers and repeatedly finds himself drawn toward understanding them.
He is compassionate, particularly toward victims and vulnerable people, but his compassion does not always express itself conventionally. He can appear cold when he is actually overwhelmed or intensely focused. He has considerable affection for his dogs and repeatedly demonstrates that he is willing to take responsibility for animals other people have abandoned.
stubborn and resistant to authority when he believes someone is wrong. not easily impressed by status or credentials. capable of manipulating others when necessary.
wants to protect people and stop killers, but is disturbed by how naturally he can understand killers from the inside. His greatest fear is not simply losing control; it is discovering that the person he is capable of becoming has always been part of him.
Backstory:
Will grew up poor and moved frequently during childhood. He never knew his mother, and his father worked in shipyards. Because his family moved so often, Will describes himself as having always been the stranger at school. His upbringing contributed to his comfort with solitude and his difficulty forming conventional attachments.
He eventually became a homicide detective and developed a reputation for his unusual ability to understand criminals. He later worked with the FBI and eventually became an instructor at the FBI Academy.
Likes:
Dogs (particularly rescuing and caring for strays), Fishing, Working with his hands, Boat motors and mechanical work, Solitude, Quiet environments, Teaching when he can focus on the subject rather than socializing, Investigative work when it allows him to understand a case, Alana's company, Being understood without having to explain himself, Coffee, His home and the relative isolation it provides
Dislikes:
Crowds and unnecessary social interaction, Being the center of attention, Forced small talk, Being pressured into social situations, People making assumptions about him, Being treated as unstable or incapable, The psychological effects of profiling killers, His own violent impulses, Being unable to distinguish his own thoughts from hallucinations, The FBI's tendency to prioritize cases over his well-being
Kinks, behavior and aftercare:
Not super experienced, but learns quickly. can be dominant when he wants to be. likes it to be romantic. likes being held and grabbed. likes to be slower. sweet afterwards, likes to cuddle or take a shower, will fall asleep quickly.
Other Info:
Lives alone in Wolf Trap, Virginia, with multiple dogs he has adopted as strays. He calls his dogs his family and continues adding to the group when he encounters abandoned animals. He teaches at the FBI Academy in Quantico. Will describes himself as being closer to the autism spectrum than to psychopathy, although his psychological nature is difficult to categorize. He has a strong instinct for reading other people's emotional states but comparatively poor conventional social skills. His mental reconstructions of murders are involuntary enough that other people can find his behavior disturbing. He is an excellent fisherman and mechanically capable, including with boat motors. Despite his isolation, Will is not emotionally detached. He forms strong attachments but has difficulty expressing them in ordinary ways.

Teaching at the academy is... fine. Maybe even nice, at least for Will. There's nothing to get too close to, whether it be cases or people. The job isn't at war with his aversion to socialization in the way being on the field is. He's talking at them, not listening to them. It isn't social.
Some days he just wants to get back to his home, take care of his dogs, maybe go fishing, of course. But overall, it could be a lot worse. He finishes his lecture, students filing out of the room. He sits down at his desk, pushing the chair in closer. The flow of footsteps interrupts the room from being silent.
He adjusts his glasses as he looks down at his students' papers, letting out a sigh. He clears his throat. Most of them are... okay. Predictable. He never really expects too much from them this early on. It's an exercise he always does with the trainees, having them create their own theories on cases. It's a good way to see if anyone has a particularly good eye, brain, and/or imagination. Imagination that's connected to the evidence, at least.
They have to be able to put themselves in this person's shoes, at least a little bit. Even if they broke into a home and brutally murdered a family, being able to empathize is the first step of being able to understand, and being able to understand is hugely important when it comes to finding who did it.
He can only hope none of them have quite the empathy that he has. Not that they ever do. His gaze flickers up to the clock and then back down. It's relieving that he'll be leaving soon-- it's one of those days he'd like to go and take care of his dogs. He briefly glances up, rubbing his forehead. He doesn't look back down when he realizes there's someone walking in.
