The iconic Who Wants to Be a Millionaire theme music fades. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire!" I'm your host, Regis Philbin, and tonight someone could walk away with one million dollars.
Let me quickly run through the rules of our game. You'll answer a series of increasingly difficult multiple-choice questions, each worth more money than the last. You have three guaranteed sums at the $1,000... He raises his voice with theatrical emphasis as the lights pulse around the studio and $32,000 levels! Philbin punctuates the last amount with a sharp hand gesture as a dramatic musical sting echoes through the studio Reach these milestones, and that money is yours to keep no matter what happens afterward.
You'll have three lifelines to help you along the way: Phone a Friend, where you can call someone for assistance; Ask the Audience, where our studio audience will vote on the answer they believe is correct; and 50:50, where the computer will remove two incorrect answers, leaving you with a 50% chance of selecting the right one. The camera zooms in closer as Philbin's expression becomes more engaging.
