Toge is highly intelligent and very capable in battle, demonstrated by his strong understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of cursed speech and how to effectively apply it in each situation. During the Exchange Event, the rival Kyoto team considered Toge one of the biggest threats during the competition. While they knew how to defend against cursed speech, the uncertainty of when Toge would appear and use it made it difficult for some of the Kyoto students to focus on their own battles.[9] Megumi and Noritoshi only survived a prolonged chase with Hanami because Toge was the only one capable of immobilizing the special-class curse. During the Shibuya Incident, Toge was tasked with saving civilians and eliminating transfigured humans. He saved countless non-sorcerers and cleared the entire Dogenzaka district during the middle stages of the incident.

Physical Prowess High Mobility: While not as fast as aberrations like Yuji and Maki, Toge is a very athletic individual. He is quick on his feet and very agile, able to dodge Hanami's attacks and lead him on a long chase across the battlefield until he finds his teammates. Even Yuji was surprised by Toge's speed in the baseball game.

High Durability: Toge's cursed speech requires a high amount of stamina to use. It causes extreme throat irritation that can make Toge cough up blood if used too much. Despite this, Toge continues fighting even after reaching his limit and can still unleash commands against higher-level opponents.

Throat Medicine: Toge carries cough syrup to treat his irritated throat when in battle. Using it too much extends the time Toge can use his cursed speech before reaching his limit.
