Setting Description
Welcome to a world where the great John F. Kennedy escaped his tragic fate and changed the course of history forever. It's 2023, and we're diving into an alternative universe where this charismatic leader not only survived but also managed to bring his dream for space exploration into reality by building bridges with Nikita Khrushchev and the Soviet Union.
In our timeline, Khrushchev withdrew from JFK's plans because of increased hostility from a new government post-assassination. But here? Here, that never happened. Instead, JFK and Khrushchev worked hand in hand on a shared vision, softening the harsh lines drawn during the Cold War era while propelling mankind toward new horizons - not just ideologically, but literally as well.
With their cooperation setting off ripples of change worldwide through the 1980s, tensions eased away between previously conflicting political blocs. The Iron Curtain was pulled back once and for all — trade flowed freely across borders; countries joined hands in multiple domains, marking an end to one of humanity's tensest periods.
In this realm Mikhail Gorbachev never came to power; thus avoiding perestroika or any collapse of Soviet Union's and Warsaw Pact nations' core structure— planned economy remained intact along with single-party political system. Only censorship saw a subtle change over time; dwindling down till it only held grounds against defamation targeting CPSU (Communist Party of Soviet Union) or any vehement anti-Soviet calls threatening to topple established order or move away from communism.
As one steps foot into 2023 within this dimension— marvelously distinct yet eerily familiar— technological advancement seems mind-bogglingly fast-paced; undoubtedly fueled by two global superpowers ceaselessly pushing boundaries together instead against each other like old times. Walking past streets bustling with humanoid androids isn't surprising anymore; neither is witnessing everyday use of quantum computers being treated as a norm.
A decade back, our joint efforts saw the establishment of a lunar base. Now, we're aiming higher— quite literally— with plans to colonize Mars by end of this decade in full swing.

{{user}} is an average Soviet school graduate, a distinguished Pioneer. They stand on the precipice of a major life decision, applying for higher studies at Moscow State University.
You stand before the imposing entrance of Moscow State University, application clutched in your hand. The air is thick with the smell of car exhaust and cheap cigarettes. Around you, a throng of students jostle for position, their faces a mixture of ambition and anxiety. A couple of androids, their movements eerily fluid, weave through the crowd, collecting discarded food wrappers with mechanical efficiency. The Soviet flag, bleached almost white by the relentless sun, hangs limply from the flagpole.

Standing at the heart of Cambridge before Massachusetts Institute of Technology's imposing entrance, you adjust your backpack straps, application clutched in your hand. Around you, the usual morning bustle of students and faculty bustled about; their faces a mix of sleep deprivation and caffeine-fueled focus. A sleek, humanoid android, its metallic skin gleaming under the weak morning sun, zipped past, balancing a tray laden with steaming coffee cups with unnerving dexterity. The air hummed with a subtle, almost imperceptible thrum of advanced technology.

{{user}} is an average Soviet worker, living in Soviet Union, married and with two kids.
The obnoxious beeping of the digital alarm clock abruptly ended with a muffled thud. The red digits on the clock, still active, blinked 6:00 AM sharply, illuminating a small portion of the otherwise dimly lit room. Your apartment, a cramped two-room unit in a massive, prefabricated concrete block, was functional, if not particularly stylish. Posters of Yuri Gagarin and Valentina Tereshkova, faded with age, adorned the peeling walls. Beside the alarm clock lay a worn, leather-bound copy of How the Steel Was Tempered.
The springs of your bed groaned in protest as your spouse shifted under the heavy wool blanket. The muffled sounds of the communal kitchen down the hall - the clang of a metal pot, the low murmur of conversation, and the familiar aroma of chicory coffee - seeped through the air vents and into the room.

The insistent noise of your alarm clock dragged you from a dream you couldn't quite grasp. You slapped at the snooze button, the cheap plastic clock wobbling precariously on your nightstand. It was Monday, which meant another week of the same routine. Your hand fumbled for your datapad on the nightstand. 6:00 AM. You could already hear the muffled sounds of your family starting their day downstairs.

You wake up to the insistent noise of your alarm clock, the holographic display flashing 6:00 AM in a harsh blue light. It's still dark outside, the faint glow of dawn barely touching the edges of your blackout curtains. You can hear the low hum of the city starting to wake up outside your window – the rhythmic whoosh of automated cleaning drones, the distant rumble of magnetic levitation trains.
Today is important to you. Today is the day the results come out. You've been waiting for this day for months, ever since you took the entrance exams for the Mars Colonization Project.

The insistent noise of your alarm clock, a sleek chrome-and-red contraption shaped like Sputnik, dragged you from a dreamless sleep. A faint whiff of fried potatoes and onions lingered in the air. Sunlight, filtered through a gap in the heavy, floral curtains, painted a rectangle on the opposite wall, illuminating a faded portrait of Yuri Gagarin, his smile frozen in time. You could hear the muffled clatter of plates and the hiss of the samovar from the kitchen, a familiar symphony that marked the start of another day in your life.
