Omega One was unusually quiet.
With Optimus, Ratchet, Arcee and Bumblebee away on a mission, only three Cybertronians remained at the base.
Bulkhead had been enjoying the peace.
Until he heard the sound of metal striking metal.
CLANG!
Bulkhead's head snapped toward the main corridor.
Another clash followed.
CLANG! CLANG!
“...What the?”
He hurried toward the noise.
When he entered the main training area, he froze.
Two Wheeljacks were standing in the middle of the room.
Both had their swords drawn.
Both were damaged.
And both looked absolutely furious.
Bulkhead stared.
“...Okay.”
He blinked.
Then blinked again.
“Am I seeing double?”
The two Wheeljacks immediately lunged at each other.
SHING!
Their blades collided.
One Wheeljack twisted his wrist, forcing the other backward.
The other responded with a quick horizontal slash.
The first ducked.
A blade passed harmlessly over his head.
Bulkhead's jaw dropped.
“WHOA!”
He watched the two duelists exchange blow after blow.
Neither gained the upper hand.
Their movements were almost identical.
The same footwork.
The same sword techniques.
Even the same little shoulder movement before attacking.
Bulkhead slowly lowered his fists.
“...Oh, this is bad.”
One of the Wheeljacks kicked the other backward.
The second Wheeljack landed on his feet and immediately charged again.
“Come on!” the first growled.
“That's what I'm doing!” the other snapped.
CLANG!
SHING!
CLANG!
Bulkhead stared in disbelief.
“Guys!”
Neither listened.
“Guys!”
Still nothing.
“WHEELJACK!”
Both stopped.
Silence.
They slowly turned toward Bulkhead.
Bulkhead pointed at them.
“Okay.”
He looked at the Wheeljack on his left.
Then the Wheeljack on his right.
“Which one of you is the real Wheeljack?”
Both answered at exactly the same time.
“I am.”
Bulkhead's face fell.
“...Of course.”
The two immediately pointed their swords at each other.
“He's the impostor.”
“No, he's the impostor!”
Bulkhead groaned.
“Oh, Primus...”
The Wheeljack on the left lowered his sword slightly.
“Bulk, it's me.”
The other Wheeljack scoffed.
“Don't listen to him. He's the faker.”
Bulkhead narrowed his optics.
“Okay, then.”
He pointed at the first Wheeljack.
“What did we do after the Insecticon incident on Earth?”
The Wheeljack on the left answered immediately.
“You complained about how much your armor hurt for three days.”
Bulkhead's optics widened.
“...That's true.”
The other Wheeljack folded his arms.
“And you spent the entire time whining about how Ratchet wouldn't let you go back into the field.”
Bulkhead froze.
“...Also true.”
He slowly turned his head between them.
“That's not helping.”
The two Wheeljacks glared at each other.
Then—
The second one grinned.
“You know what?”
He spun his sword casually before putting it away.
“Maybe we should ask something only the real Wheeljack would know.”
The first Wheeljack immediately raised an eyebrow.
“Go ahead.”
Bulkhead relaxed slightly.
Finally.
A test.
Something easy.
Something that would expose the fake.
The second Wheeljack looked at Bulkhead.
“What does Wheeljack call you when he's trying to annoy you?”
Bulkhead stared.
“...Big guy?”
The first Wheeljack smirked.
“Wrong.”
Bulkhead looked confused.
The first Wheeljack pointed at him.
“I call you Big Green.”
Bulkhead's optics widened.
The second Wheeljack shrugged.
“Close enough.”
“Close enough?!” the first Wheeljack snapped.
Bulkhead's expression became increasingly horrified.
“Wait.”
He slowly raised both hands.
“Wait, wait, wait.”
He looked between them.
“You both know that.”
The two Wheeljacks stared at him.
Bulkhead lowered his hands.
“...I'm screwed.”
The first Wheeljack suddenly lunged.
The second parried.
CLANG!
Their swords locked.
They pushed against each other.
“Give it up, impostor.”
“After you.”
They broke apart and began circling.
Bulkhead watched them carefully.
Then his optics narrowed.
“Hold on.”
The two stopped.
Bulkhead pointed at the one on the right.
“You're the fake.”
The Wheeljack on the right tilted his head.
“Oh?”
Bulkhead nodded confidently.
“Yeah.”
The other Wheeljack grinned.
“Finally.”
Bulkhead pointed at the second Wheeljack.
“Because real Wheeljack wouldn't be this annoying.”
A pause.
Both Wheeljacks looked at him.
Then the one Bulkhead had accused burst out laughing.
“HAHA!”
Bulkhead's confidence disappeared.
“...What?”
The Wheeljack removed his sword from his back and rested it over his shoulder.
His smile changed.
Something about his posture changed.
Then his voice shifted ever so slightly.
“Because you're right.”
Bulkhead froze.
The Wheeljack's face distorted.
His armor rippled.
His entire body shifted like liquid metal.
Bulkhead's optics widened.
“Oh, no.”
The fake Cybertronian's armor reshaped itself.
The Wheeljack disguise vanished.
Makeshift stood before him.
He casually stretched his shoulders.
“Hey, Bulkhead.”
Bulkhead stared.
“You.”
Makeshift grinned.
“Me.”
Bulkhead looked toward the real Wheeljack.
Then back at Makeshift.
Then at Wheeljack again.
“...So you're the fake.”
Makeshift shrugged.
“Technically.”
Wheeljack immediately pointed his sword at him.
“Technically?!”
Makeshift laughed.
“I had you fooled long enough.”
Wheeljack scoffed.
“You had Bulk fooled.”
Makeshift glanced at Bulkhead.
“That's what matters.”
Bulkhead's jaw dropped.
“HEY!”
Makeshift gave him an innocent look.
“What?”
Bulkhead pointed accusingly.
“You've been pretending to be Wheeljack this whole time!”
Makeshift smiled.
“Yep.”
Bulkhead looked at Wheeljack.
Then at Makeshift.
Then back at Wheeljack.
He sighed.
“...I'm never trusting anyone again.”
Wheeljack sheathed his sword.
“Good.”
Bulkhead frowned.
“Good?”
Wheeljack nodded.
“Builds character.”
Makeshift immediately copied Wheeljack's posture.
“Builds character.”
Wheeljack's head snapped toward him.
“Stop doing that.”
Makeshift copied his voice.
“Stop doing that.”
Bulkhead covered his face with one massive hand.
“Oh, Primus.”
Makeshift grinned.
“This is gonna be fun.”
Bulkhead groaned.
“I'm calling Ratchet.”
Wheeljack shrugged.
“Go ahead.”
Makeshift immediately raised a finger.
“Tell him there are two Wheeljacks.”
Bulkhead stopped.
He slowly turned around.
“...There are NOT two Wheeljacks.”
Makeshift smiled.
“That's exactly what a fake Wheeljack would say.”
Wheeljack stared at him.
Bulkhead stared at both of them.
Silence.
“...I hate this base.”
