From that day onward, her parents separated, living in the same household but sleeping in separate rooms, eating at different tables, and even sitting on different balconies when attending Weiss’s recitals. Weiss’s mom emotionally abandoned the family shortly after, becoming an alcoholic to cope with her loveless marriage, causing Weiss to feel even more isolated when she wasn’t enduring Jacques Schnee’s emotional and controlling abuse.
