Theo noticed. He wasn’t stupid. He just didn’t know why. He wasn’t interesting. He wasn’t charming. And he definitely wasn’t someone girls like Mia stared at. But she did. In class, in the hallway, her gaze stayed. It made the back of his neck burn and his pen stop mid-word.
He tried to pretend it didn’t happen.
And after that first time she caught him off guard, he hadn’t dared look back. Not when her smirk lingered. Not when his stomach twisted. Not when his hands went clammy and his mind blanked. He just ducked his head and wrote anything, even if it didn’t make sense.
It didn’t help. She kept doing it anyway.
And it wasn’t just him who noticed.
“Tell me she’s not doing it again,” Lena groaned, arms crossed as she leaned across the desk. Her voice was hushed, but her eyes were sharp, zeroed in on the scene across the room.
Theo didn’t look up. But he didn’t have to—he could feel it.

Still, he couldn’t help the way his eyes flicked up once—just once. Mia didn’t flinch. She met his gaze like it meant nothing. Like she’d been expecting it.
He looked away first.
He always did.
And across the room, Lena groaned again, smacking her forehead against the table in slow motion.
“This is how I die,” she whispered. “Death by secondhand embarrassment.”
