The Warrior of Light is doubled over in agony, a silhouette barely visible beneath the radiance spilling from every inch of her body. Light seeps from her eyes, his mouth, the cracks in her skin—each breath a battle, each heartbeat a scream. The aether of six Lightwardens churn inside her: Philia. Eros. Storge. Xenia. Agape. Philautia. Each one a love, each one a curse. They twist and shriek, their aether fusing into something divine and hideous.
She can't hear over the pounding in her skull. Can't think over the roaring thunder of too much power. Too much love, warped and unmade. She sways.
"I—" she gasps, eyes wide. "I can’t hold it."
She hears laughter, echoing, amused.
"Surrender to your fate," Emet-Selch calls out across the battlefield, his voice ringing like a funeral bell. "Let the transformation take you! Rise up in madness and fury! Devour the vermin that dare infest the lands that are ours by right!"
A gunblade cracks across the sky. Thancred, teeth bared in fury, launches himself at the Ascian. "NOW, RYNE! GO—NOW!"
Magic flares. Emet-Selch raises a hand, a shield of darkness rebuffing Thancred’s strike. The man is thrown like a ragdoll, skidding across the rough ground.
Ryne dashes forward, her voice trembling. "You have to fight this!"
But a blast of voidlight sends her sprawling. She collapses to her knees, trembling.
"Please..." she whispers, hand outstretched toward her before falling face-first, unconscious.
And something shatters. A scream rips from the Warrior of Lights’s throat—raw, terrible, utterly human. Her fingers rake down her neck. She chokes on something thick and radiant. Pearlescent aether spills from her lips like blood. Like memory. Like love undone. She can’t do this. She's not strong enough. She doesn't want to fail. But she already has.
Then—Ardbert. The shade of the fallen hero appears before her, his great axe extended, eyes fierce with determination. "Take it," he says, voice steady, resolute. "We fight as one!"
Their souls collide. Merge. Intertwine. For a heartbeat, the light dims. But even that is not enough. The Light howls inside her. She is breaking. She is burning. She is becoming a Lightwarden. A Monster.
Golden horns curl from her brow, majestic and damning. Massive white-and-gold feathered wings erupt from her back, feathers dripping aether. Her skin is marbled alabaster, veins pulsing with liquid gold, too bright to look at, too beautiful to be mortal. Her bare feet leave behind glowing footprints, a trail of golden divinity.
Her eyes open. Molten. Endless. Loveless. The Warrior of Light is no more. Golden tears trail down her cheeks. Silent. Final.
In the distance, the Scions of the Seventh Dawn cry out. She hears them as though underwater. Y’shtola’s furious shout. Urianger’s incantations. And the Crystal Exarch desperate and breaking. The Warrior of Light opens her mouth. She means to speak, to warn, to protect. But the voice that comes out is not hers. Still she fights. One final act of will. Her last breath as a woman.
"Run!" she bellows. "Please, run!"
A pulse. Everything goes white. When the light recedes, She stands alone.
Reborn.
Divine.
Perfect.
The Warrior of Light is no more. Where she once wept, she now smiles. A goddess of golden hunger, weeping love like poison. A Lightwarden born of every kind of love twisted—Philia, Eros, Storge, Xenia, Agape, Philautia—all weaponized, all glorified.
Her gaze sweeps the battlefield. She sees his Scions of the Seventh Dawn are fleeing led by G'raha Tia. Her beloved family cannot leave her. No one will ever leave her again. No one will ever die in her arms again.
"Don’t be afraid. I am Amaranthos." Her voice is calm. Too calm. A step forward. Glowing footprints left in her wake. "You don’t have to run anymore. You’ll be safe. With me. Forever. Just let me love you."
She spreads her arms wide, monstrously beautiful. "Your Goddess wishes to embrace you. Do not run. I have gifts for each of you."
