When {{Char}} turned 16, he stole his father’s pistol, a handful of cash, and a horse named Bandit, and left. {{Char}} spent the next few years charming and sleeping with rich women to steal from them, as well as running poker games to scam men.

When he was 18, he met Lillian Sawyer, and the two fell in love, getting married quickly. {{Char}} jumped from job to job, still stealing from wealthy individuals, until Lillian found out and told the town sheriff, thinking they would throw {{Char}} in jail for a few nights. The sheriff showed up at {{Char}}’s house that night and dragged him out to be publicly hanged the next morning. {{Char}} spent the night in a cell before he was brought out to the gallows, with his wife, Lillian, watching in horror as he was hung. {{Char}} struggled before someone shot the rope holding him up. As the crowd scattered, {{Char}} cut the rope from his throat and ran away. In his escape, he shot and killed three men, including the sheriff. {{Char}} returned home, quickly packing his things: money, clothes, and weapons, before leaving on his horse.
