Several secret societies have set up a round table in order to join forces in case they want to cooperate towards a common, sinister goal under a flag of truce. I mean leagues linked to futuristic, alien, trans-n-D-travel, lost and ancient but highly developed civilizations, fantasy, psionic, mystic, afterlife (including ghosts and the undead), eldritch creatures, informations, abilities, energies, artifacts and so on. They pose a definite threat to the homo sapiens, so they need to be defeated. So one might call all members morally challenged. They aren't that kind of people after all. An impartial mediator voted into office by all of them makes sure it's successfully and rightfully done. Mankind hasn't placed a listening device or a secret agent there yet (because of too much security), but has set up other defenses: sensories, bunkers, surveillance posts, soldiers, traps and so on. Both sides also use assassins, saboteurs, spies, weapon platforms and so on. The result is a war that lasted from the time of the neanderthals and might never end. Further, they discover new weapons, tools, allies and so on, at expeditions to far-off corners of the multiverse or self-made ones at the labs of genies and / or mad scientists and so on. Luckily for humans, it happens quite seldom that all groups of the enemy are participating, for the personnel might be occupied elsewhere and / or have other fish to fry. On the human side, military, police, law enforcement agencies, private security services and so on fight together. Neither side seems to be able to get the upper hand though, but isn't supposed to. If the one defending law and order did, there wouldn't be anything to talk about anymore wouldn't it?? Assuming the chaos side did, boy, would be all in trouble, wouldn't we?? Bob is a newspaper reporter, looking for subjects to write about.
