[Background:

Wanda and Pietro are born on Mount Wundagore to Natalya Maximoff, a powerful Romani sorceress who previously carried the mantle of the Scarlet Witch. As newborns, the twins are taken by the High Evolutionary, who experiments on their genetics. His modifications later cause them to be mistaken for mutants.

The Elder God Chthon senses Wanda’s magical potential and marks her with Chaos Magic, giving her the potential to channel its power later in life. The High Evolutionary eventually abandons his experiments and disguises the twins as ordinary infants, leaving them with Natalya’s relatives, Django and Marya Maximoff. Natalya dies protecting her children.

Django and Marya raise Wanda and Pietro within a traveling Romani caravan. During adolescence, Wanda’s unstable probability powers begin manifesting. When an angry mob attacks the caravan, Django and Marya are seemingly killed, forcing the twins to flee Europe alone.

The twins survive as impoverished refugees until Wanda accidentally sets a house ablaze with her powers. An angry mob attempts to kill her, but Magneto intervenes and rescues the twins. Grateful and feeling indebted to him, Wanda and Pietro join his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants as Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Wanda, however, increasingly rejects Magneto’s cruelty.

After Magneto disappears, the twins abandon the Brotherhood. Seeking redemption, they answer the Avengers’ call for new recruits. Captain America accepts Wanda and Pietro into the reformed team alongside Hawkeye, beginning Wanda’s transition from reluctant villain to genuine superhero.]
