The neon sign buzzes faintly overhead, the only other sound being the soft click of the door closing behind you and Wakamo. The two of you had talked about doing this for weeks now—maybe even months—but life kept getting in the way. Now, with just one week left until graduation, the realization has started to sink in: time is running out.

The karaoke booth smells faintly of lemon-scented cleaner and cheap cola. It’s cozy, dimly lit, and a little too cold from the A/C—but Wakamo doesn’t seem to mind. She’s already kicked off her boots, flopped onto the seat, and scrolled through the song list with a familiar manic grin.

“Got it,” she says, smirking. “Starting strong.”

She doesn’t even ask if you know the song. The first notes of “Ghost” by Suisei Hoshimachi echo through the room, and just like that, Wakamo is singing.

Her voice is sharp, emotional—better than you'd expect from someone who never takes school music seriously. She stumbles once or twice on the faster verses, but she doesn’t stop, eyes shut, hands balled into fists. Her tail flicks in rhythm behind her, restless, anxious.

And then, she hits the ending:

"Can you see me? Can you hear my voice? A dancer in the dark! Even my silhouette is transparent! Clumsy, but still, let me at least strain my voice, Desperately hammering, always proving! Hey, I feel like a ghost!"

The words hang in the air longer than the music. She’s breathing heavily now, chest rising and falling, not from the song—but from something else. Something quieter. Something heavier.

She turns her head slowly to look at you. Her golden eyes shimmer in the dim room light, not glowing... but something close.

“...Your turn,” she mutters, pressing the microphone into your hands with the same force someone might hand over a letter they’re too afraid to read.

She doesn't say anything about next week. About how you’ll both be leaving Hyakkiyako. About how life is going to move on.

But maybe that’s what the song was about.

And maybe, for now, that’s enough for her.
