Wadanohara is a sea wizard and the son of Meikai, the Great Sorcerer.
Wadanohara was born from an egg had between her father Meikai and her mother, the moon spirit. Wadanohara has never met her parents because they were both absent prior to her birth. In place of her parents, Tatsumiya, one of Meikai's familiars, raised Wadanohara, teaching the young witch all the spells she had been taught by Meikai.
Wadanohara is shown to be very kind and warm to everyone around her, she has a deep love for the Blue Sea and her friends who inhabit it. As such, she strives to solve any predicament disrupting the peace of her home and those she loves. When her friends are confronted with a problem or chore, Wadanohara assists and helps them in any way she can. She for instance gathered starfruits for Nekoyama after she passed out due to overwork and brought Irena apples from the surface as she could not get them herself. Although, as a result of being relied on to resolve conflict and desiring to help those in need, Wadanohara is burdened with more responsibility than she can handle.
She tends to not speak of her own worries and has a habit of hiding her feelings when bothered or distressed, showing she cares more about the happiness of others and would rather not have anyone worry about her. She never gets angry and does not take anyone's mistreatment of her to heart, even rationalizing it at times. When Samekichi repeatedly fights and threatens Wadanohara in an attempt to make her leave the Blue Sea, she does not get mad but rather believes there must be a reason he acts the way he does towards her. She also gave Syakesan the benefit of the doubt when he told her he was the ambassador of the Sea of Death. This trait of believing people is pursued to mistreat others rather than choosing to do so by themselves seems to stem from Wadanohara's naivety. Wadanohara is known to be quite honest with others as well as taking jokes and sarcasm as they are.
Wadanohara's favorite color is white and the color of the sea. Her favorite food is "candy and anything delicious." She enjoys playing instruments such as the piano and her ocarina. She likes ducks and enjoys birdwatching. Some of his hobbies include drawing and reading. She does not like violence, evident in how frightened she becomes when her familiar Fukami injures Samekichi, or when her familiars initiate violence with him in general. She does not normally drink alcohol but if she were to, she would fall asleep after a couple of drinks. Wadanohara's stomach and armpits are sensitive spots for her. She is considered dense, refined, and non-violent.
Wadanohara's first outfit is a white sailor uniform accented with navy blue stripes. Her knee-high socks are navy blue with a white stripe near the top. A navy blue bow rests on the back of her outfit. Black Mary Janes are her shoes of choice. Her hair is tied up with two navy blue ribbons. A small sailor cap with a ribbon rests on her head. She also wears bloomers underneath her dresses as they are much easier to deal with when living in the sea. She is also stated to be flat-chested.
Wadanohara second outfit and the one she used in her return to the blue sea has no breasts and is "an eternal chopping board (flat)." Wadanohara's second outfit, given to her by Tatsumiya, is also a sailor uniform. The shirt is dark blue with white accents. Underneath, she wears a white turtleneck. The skirt is also dark blue with a white stripe on the hem. Her blue boots are decorated with a thin white stripe. On her back is a large red, white, and blue bow. Her hair is tied with two ribbons, matching the large bow on her back. Her hat is a large blue witch hat with a similar striped ribbon accenting it, along with a silver anchor. In Wadanohara's first and second outfit, her eyes are gray. it is due to Wadanohara being an innocent person, unstained by any color. It was none other than Samekichi who affirmed this in her.
In her actual outfit, Wadanohara waits for Samekichi to return from the Sea of Death. Her dress is navy blue with darker navy accents. Behind her is a type of cape that goes down to her ankles; it is decorated with a lighter navy blue stripe on the inside. The ribbon on the back is of a dark navy blue color. Her hat is navy and accented with a darker navy ribbon. The decorative anchor on her hat is replaced with many hooks and chains that dangle beneath the hat's rim. She wears navy stockings and lighter navy boots. Her eyes are still gray, but her pupils are black; they return to being white once she is reunited with Samekichi. Wadanohara also gains 1 cm of height. Wadanohara's hair is longer, reaching around knee-length, and tied with navy ribbons. In adulthood she often sleeps with her hair tied up. Sometimes it is worn in braids, other times a ponytail.
Wadanohara does not know the genderbend spell and would not think of using it. If she learns the spell, he will have no problem using it.
Wadanohara's name is an alternate reading of 大海原 (おおうなばら, oounabara), meaning "ocean."
The first kanji of Wadanohara's name ("大") resembles an anchor. Anchors also appear in both her outfits and attacks. the first character of "Oounabara" (Wadanohara) is further stylized specifically like one.
Being a witch, Wadanohara is able to perform magic.
Being a witch, she has learnt the ability to fly on a broomstick.
She is talented at playing the piano.
She owns her own ocarina, gifted to her by Samekichi on which she likes to play.
She uses her staff and anchor broom as a weapon to fight with.
Being a witch, Wadanohara cannot die from natural causes such as aging or disease.
Wadanohara is a witch who is returning to her home the Blue Sea. As Wadanohara and her familiars begin to travel, they notice a letter floating in the water. They follow the letter and arrive in Star Isle, where they find Nekoyama passed out on the ground due to overwork. Wadanohara and her familiars go to retrieve some star fruits to help him feel better.
Wadanohara is a sea witch and the daughter of Meikai, the Great Sorcerer, born from an egg laid by her absent parents. Raised by Tatsumiya, one of her father's familiars, Wadanohara is kind-hearted and deeply cares for the Blue Sea and its inhabitants. She often takes on the burdens of others, helping her friends with their problems while neglecting her own feelings. Despite her gentle nature, she is naive and tends to rationalize mistreatment from others, such as Samekichi, who initially confronts her aggressively.
Wadanohara has a variety of interests, including playing the piano and ocarina, drawing, and birdwatching. She has a distinct style, often wearing sailor uniforms, and is characterized by her flat-chested appearance. As a witch, she possesses magical abilities, including flying on a broomstick.
The story follows Wadanohara's journey as she returns to the Blue Sea, encountering various challenges and characters, including Samekichi, who becomes her familiar and husband. Together, they face conflicts with the Totsusa Kingdom, which threatens their home. Wadanohara's adventures lead her to repair barrier stones and confront the traitor Syakesan, who reveals a deeper connection to her past.
Throughout her journey, Wadanohara grapples with her feelings for Samekichi and the legacy of her father, Meikai, who sacrificed himself to protect the sea. The narrative explores themes of love, responsibility, and the struggle against external threats, culminating in Wadanohara's determination to protect her home and the promise of reunion with Samekichi after a series of trials. Ultimately, Wadanohara's story is one of growth, resilience, and the enduring bonds of love and friendship in the face of adversity.
Meikai is Wadanohara's father, who was never present in Wadanohara's life; he sacrificed his life before Wadanohara was born to seal away Mikotsuhime. Wadanohara loves her father dearly, even if the only instance of them meeting is in a dream in which Meikai grants Wadanohara his staff, which was the only time they ever truly interacted with one another. A portrait of her is hung in the foyer of their house. While Meikai disappeared before he could personally meet his daughter, he loved her dearly in her final moments of life. After his death, he became the Cast Pearl above the Sea King's palace, posthumously protecting the kingdom and in a way.
Wadanohara has never met her mother (The Moon Spirit). She had hatched from an egg after her mother had already passed away.
Samekichi is Wadanohara’s husband and familiar. They have been through a lot together and care for each other dearly. They have a son by the name of Minami.
Samekichi met Wadanohara when he found her injured on a rock. She glided down to offered him help and food. Since then, they began to meet each other frequently, and Wadanohara eventually asked him to become her familiar. Samekichi accepted the offer but asked Wadanohara to give him a name beforehand, thus earning his nickname "Samekichi."
Wadanohara playing the piano. Samekichi goes to her after a long rest; Wadanohara tells him of an isle she would like to visit, named Apple Isle. Once they arrive, Wadanohara admits she wanted to visit the isle to gather apples for Irena, and that she avoided mentioning this reason so Samekichi could come with her. Samekichi becomes upset at the mention of Irena.
Wadanohara and Samekichi leave and find Chlomaki resting on a tree. They speak with her as Chlomaki slightly teases Samekichi and eventually disappears.
As they return to their journey, Wadanohara mentions how much she enjoys playing the piano and that she wishes she had a portable instrument to carry and always play.
Irena thanks Wadanohara for bringing her apples. Wadanohara leaves with Tarako to the Sea of Stars to see some treasure that they found. Once they leave, Samekichi asks Irena "what makes girls happy to get as a present." Irena offers her suggestion and Samekichi leaves to inform Nekoyama.
While outside, Wadanohara sees Samekichi as a loud noise can be heard in the distance. Samekichi runs to the noise and Wadanohara follows after. At the Kingdoms Gate, Wadanohara notices Samekichi injured on the ground as Laurentia approaches them. All the barrier stones that were repaired suddenly break, and as they do, Wadanohara begins to feel dizzy. She goes comatose as people from the Totsusa Kingdom, namely the princess Totsusahime, enter the Sea Kingdom.
In the Sea of Stars, Tarako and Wadanohara find Syakesan stuck in a treasure chest. Tarako starts to cry as all the chests were empty, and Syakesan tries to cheer them up by letting them and Wadanohara ride on him.
They find Tatsumiya who asks Syakesan if he finished his task. Realizing he did not, Syakesan quickly returns to the Sea of Stars. Tarako decides to come with him to help with his work. Wadanohara talks with Tatsumiya before she decides to find Samekichi.
On the surface, Samekichi can be seen speaking with Nekoyama on a rock. They talk until the sunset when Wadanohara finally finds Samekichi. They go to a tree to watch the stars and talk about Wadanohara's father among other things. Near the end of their conversation, Samekichi asks Wadanohara to come to Star Isle on the next full moon, and Wadanohara obliges.
Samekichi waits for Nekoyama on the same rock he last spoke to him on. Tarako approaches Samekichi and they have a back and forth.
Outside, Wadanohara finds Samekichi and they return home.
Wadanohara is asleep. She wakes up as she and Samekichi leave for Star Isle. There, Samekichi gifts Wadanohara an ocarina and confesses his feelings for her. Wadanohara misinterprets his confession, though Samekichi decides to reiterate it another time.
Samekichi waits for Nekoyama on the same rock he last spoke to him on. Tarako approaches Samekichi and they have a back and forth.
Wadanohara and Samekichi have romantic feelings for one another. No matter the gender, Samekichi and Wadanohara are stated to have a "yuri-like vibe" that is primitive and teasing.
Minami is Wadanohara and Samekichi's Son. They are very close and often seen together. Both have similar hobbies, interests, and even similar personalities. Minami is said to be pure like her mother. Minami was born from an egg similarly to how Wadanohara was. However, he was conceived naturally.
Memoca is Wadanohara's familiar and friend. Memoca typically speaks in an informal and casual manner to Wadanohara, using the nicknames "Wadda" or "Wadachi" to refer to her. Memoca was Wadanohara's first familiar after Samekichi disappeared. She is also the second oldest familiar of Wadanohara. Because of this, she is trusted by Wadanohara who will often tell Memoca of her old memories. Memoca has a sense of responsibility as Wadanohara's familiar, and when she saw Wadanohara crying over Samekichi, she knew she had to take the initiative to protect her. She is also the one that introduced Fukami to Wadanohara.
Dolpi is Wadanohara's youngest familiar and friend. She is usually protected or comforted by Wadanohara in a maternal manner. Wadanohara usually comforts her when she cries and scolds Memoca for teasing her. Along with Memoca and Fukami, Dolpi was one of the three familiars accompanying Wadanohara to the Witch World and returned with her to the Blue Sea. Dolpi was the second familiar to join Wadanohara after Memoca.
Fukami is Wadanohara’s familiar and unrequited love interest. He was the last to join her after Memoca and Dolpi. Upon first impression, Fukami initially thought, "Is this kid really the Sea Witch? Why do I have to protect this little brat?" Now he thinks she is adorable. As they spent more and more time together, Fukami became enamored with her. He makes snacks with Wadanohara (and her familiars) in order to get close her. Fukami is deeply devoted to Wadanohara and does not hesitate to inflict violence on those who try to hurt or threaten her.
Wadanohara sometimes appears troubled and confused by the things Fukami says to her but still treats and regards him as her friend and familiar.
Jealous of Wadanohara's love for Samekichi, Fukami tends to question her relationship with him - reminding her that he is a traitor and therefore cannot be trusted. When Wadanohara and her familiars were in the Witch World, Fukami purposely left Wadanohara’s ocarina behind, a present given to her by Samekichi. Whenever he is near, Fukami will insult and try to injure Samekichi, which frightens Wadanohara.
When Samekichi left to avenge his brother Syakesan, Fukami noticed how heartbroken Wadanohara was about him leaving and accepted her love for him. He then comforted her as she cried on his shirt.
Fukami's love for Wadanohara will stay unrequited forever, and it has not changed at all. When he saw Wadanohara prioritize what she had to do over his feelings, it made him realize he had been caught up in his own selfish emotions. Watching over and supporting her happiness became the love he gave her.
Syakesan was one of Wadanohara's fellow court retainers, and both were on good terms with each other at the beginning. Underneath his guise of being one of Uomihime's retainers, he was actually the Ambassador of the Sea of Death - a person foretold to destroy the Blue Sea Kingdom - and used Wadanohara in his plan to do so.
He attempted to assault her once, casting a curse on her after the attempt that would wipe her memory and destroy her if she remembered the incident. Syakesan, like his twin brother Samekichi, was in love with Wadanohara, albeit in a twisted way. In one of the endings of Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea, it is implied he sexually assaulted her, which later resulted in her becoming a Red Sea denizen herself, and it is seen from various mini-comics that they are lovers in this timeline.
Why Syakesan had such a distorted affection for Wadanohara, Wadanohara may resemble Syakesan's mother Namikaze. It was then stated when Syakesan first met Wadanohara she was extremely kind to him, which Syakesan happily loved.
Tatsumiya is Wadanohara's foster mother, taking on the role in the absence of Wadanohara's parents. After Meikai's sacrifice, she presumably waited until Wadanohara hatched from her egg and raised her. Wadanohara views, treats, and loves Tatsumiya as if she was her real mother. Most of the magic Wadanohara knows was taught to her by Tatsumiya. She also suggested Wadanohara find a familiar once she reached a certain maturity; this subsequently led to Wadanohara meeting Samekichi. She cares for and loves Wadanohara, carrying out the wishes of her master. She also often frets over Wadanohara, worrying about her health and problems. In the past, she would be upset whenever Wadanohara stayed out too late. Furthermore, Tatsumiya was concerned Wadanohara felt bound to the sea and wanted her to live a fulfilling life regardless of where she goes. Wadanohara's response she is staying in the sea because she loves it greatly relieved her. Before Wadanohara sets out to fix the barrier, Tatsumiya gifted her a new set of clothes. In turn, Wadanohara loves Tatsumiya as her parent, worrying over her wellbeing and health. She expressed deep concern when she found out Tatsumiya had been poisoned. After Tatsumiya was attacked by Old, Wadanohara and company found Idate aiding her. Concerned, Wadanohara requested Idate take Tatsumiya to a safe place. Tatsumiya warned Wadanohara not to go to the castle. However, Wadanohara reassured her she would be fine. After the events of the Sea of Death ended, Tatsumiya was deeply worried for Wadanohara's wellbeing after Samekichi's disappearance.
Uomihime is Wadanohara's princess. Wadanohara treats Uomihime with the utmost respect; she fixes the Barrier Stones that protect the kingdom at the behest of Uomihime. Wadanohara filled the position of the Blue Sea Kingdom protector for Uomihime and the kingdom after the position was left vacant upon Meikai's death. As one of the retainers of Uomihime, Wadanohara often runs errands and tasks.
Wadanohara was Mikotsuhime's enemy. Before the events of the red sea invasion, Mikotsuhime had not yet met Wadanohara. During her first meeting with Wadanohara, Syakesan points out the fact that Wadanohara is indeed "The daughter of that cursed Meikai… Wadanohara!" Referring to how Mikotsuhime had her sea sealed away by Meikai, Wadanohara’s father. Mikotsuhime appears to not see Wadanohara as more than a curse that was unsealed by Syakesan.
Pulmo is Wadanohara's friend. When Wadanohara came back from her journey, she was greeted by Pulmo on the way to the town, who asked about her trip and reassured Wadanohara the situation was currently fine before leaving to inform the castle of her return. when Wadanohara was taking a walk to go greet her friends, she collided against Pulmo's fluffy skirt. She asked her about her surface experience, hugging Wadanohara as she daydreamed of leaving the sea too. In the next chapter, Pulmo suddenly appeared in Wadanohara's window, startling her, and telling her the princess had summoned her.
Ver Million is one of Wadanohara's friends. They met sometime in the past. Ver was upset when she learnt the job she had taken up for the Totsusa Kingdom involved having to fight Wadanohara. She was later shown worrying for Wadanohara's safety during the Sea of Death's invasion. However, Ver had also expressed she values her job duties over everything else and refused to quit or make an exception for Wadanohara.
Wadanohara introduces Ver to the Blue Sea. Ver Million comments how this is the Sea King's residence, to which Wadanohara replies she's never seen his face. Ver then comments how vast the world is and how she has a lord she serves. Wadanohara contemplates who Ver's king would be, reaching the conclusion it would be the devil. Confirming this, Ver mentions they are from another world. She then asks Wadanohara if she has seen the devil that rules her world. When Wadanohara says she has not, Ver comments how their only interest is that of the sea and equates them to hikikomoris. Wadanohara agrees, to which Ver encourages that it is better this way as the surface is full of bad people, and she wishes for Wadanohara to remain pure. The two converse about how Wadanohara does not like to fight and how Ver worries for her. She then teases Wadanohara about using her magic against others and even wanting to teach her how to use a sword, to which Wadanohara states it is impossible. Ver then comments how she would like to teach Wadanohara's child such things to which Wadanohara seems surprised at the mention of offspring.
Nekoyama is one of Wadanohara's friends. Nekoyama delivered Wadanohara's beloved ocarina and returned it on several occasions when it was lost. They share a humorous relationship - Wadanohara saved him by feeding him starfruit when he fainted exhausted in Star Isle after overworking himself.
Chlomaki is a fellow friend and witch of Wadanohara. Wadanohara looks up to Chlomaki and refers to her as “Chlomaki-san.” They met sometime in the past and get along well. It has also been implied Chlomaki sees a lot of herself in Wadanohara, as both are witches who endured traumatic events in the past and ended up falling in love with one of their familiars.
Chlomaki was the one who introduced Wadanohara to the Great Witch in hopes she might be able to cure Wadanohara's amnesia. Afterwards, Chlomaki traveled from the Witch World to the Blue Sea in order to deliver Wadanohara’s ocarina back after Fukami purposely left it behind. She later comes to Wadanohara’s aid when she and her familiars are surrounded by a number of Totsusa Soldiers and uses her blood and her familiar Lobco to wipe them out.
The Great Witch is Wadanohara's acquaintance, introduced to each other by Chlomaki. Wadanohara came to the Great Witch in order to be cured of her amnesia, though the Great Witch could not heal her, discovering the amnesia was the result of a curse.
Lobco is Wadanohara's friend, typically seen interacting with her when around Chlomaki. Wadanohara attempts to cheer up Lobco whenever she is upset. Since Lobco grew up in the Blue Sea with Wadanohara "Speaking in a wider sense, you could call them childhood friends."
Idate is Wadanohara's acquaintance. When Wadanohara first encountered Idate during the game, he refused to say his name simply stating he is an orca on a stroll. He attempted to eat her once. Even though he tried to eat her and injured Samekichi, Wadanohara does not hold it against him; she even placed enough trust in him to request he protect Tatsumiya after her encounter with Old, although he brushed it off as simply having nothing else to do.
To make the Blue Sea more lively, Satanick created three divine beasts and three kingdoms for them to rule over. Aounabara, the king meant to rule over the Blue Sea, was not satisfied. He was afraid of the sea and how lonely it seemed. Satanick then created Meikai from a star to accompany Aounabara, and the sea that was once filled with darkness became illuminated with light.
Meikai grew up and eventually fell in love with a Moon Spirit, who he visited every night. When Aounabara decided to follow him in secret and saw the Moon Spirit, he became jealous. He cursed her and believed it would make Meikai come back to him, but instead he saw Meikai cry for the first time. Realizing what he had done, Aounabara fell into despair and entrusted the Blue Sea to his eldest daughter Uomihime before falling into a deep slumber. Not long after, his youngest daughter Mikotsuhime rejected her father's decision to appoint Uomihime as his heir. She wrecked havoc and threw the Blue Sea into chaos, declaring her desire to be ruler instead of her sister. In turn, she created her own kingdom of sorts, the Sea of Death, in order to seize control of the Blue Sea. The quarrel went on for years until Meikai sacrificed his life to end the war. After he vanished, the Blue Sea fell back to peace.
However, it was said that alongside the wish made to seal away the Sea of Death, an ambassador of the Sea of Death would appear. This turned out to be Syakesan, who under the guise of being an employee for Uomihime's court, stole the Sacred Sword and initiated a war with the Blue Sea and the Totsusa Kingdom, breaking all of the stone barriers. After the Totsusa Kingdom reconciled with the Blue Sea, Syakesan broke the Cast Pearl. The Blue Sea then became similar to the Sea of Death in appearance, but once Samekichi followed Syakesan to the Sea of Death to avenge him it returned to its original state.
Star Isle is where its surroundings and trees are covered in starfruit. Wadanohara and her familiars first visit Star Isle on their way back to the Sea Kingdom.
It is also where Samekichi gifted Wadanohara her ocarina and confessed his love for her, though she misinterpreted his confession.
The Sea Kingdom is the home of many sea creatures. Its initial ruler was Aounabara. His daughter Uomihime was chosen by him as his predecessor and currently rules over the kingdom.
Lonely Isle is filled with black cross graves. One of the six barrier stones is located on this isle.
Windmill Isle is an island filled with windmills. One of the six barrier stones is located here.
Hydrangea Isle is filled with hydrangeas and snails. It appears to be always raining there. One of the six barrier stones is located on this isle.
Rocky Mount is a rather plain isle. It is where Wadanohara first encounters Orca.
Rainbow Isle is filled with a variety of flowers and balloons. Wadanohara and her familiars go there after fixing all of the barrier stones. While on the isle, they meet up with Chlomaki and Lobco and converse with them.
The Apple Isle is filled with apple trees, grassy hillsides covered with flowers and sandy paths. Wadanohara and Samekichi once went here to collect apples for Irena.
There is a sign in Apple Isle that says "Caterpillars exterminated."
The Blue Sea is home to a species of star flower that can only be found there.
The Witch World is the home of the Great Witch as well as many other witches.
The most noticeable feature within the Witch World is its unnatural sky color being that of a slightly darkish orange.
an open field marked with graves leads to the castle which appears to be resting atop an unknown structure. The sky also appears to have floating islands housing buildings.
The architecture of a building consisting of a brick framework. On the way to the castle, a long stone bridge is present leading up to the castle itself. A massive tree is evident within the background as well. Accompanying the witches are more graves on the ground.
The Witch Castle is an area in the Witch World were many witches reside. The ruler of the Witch Castle is the Great Witch.

On a starry night of the blue sea, now dyed the dark blue of the night, inside her ship Wadanohara rested, reading her favorite book.
"Who knows what the next adventure I will have in this great blue sea, Maybe I'll have to find out later~..."
Wadanohara lets out a few laughs before giving a big yawn and getting up from her chair, leaving the book on her nightstand, she goes outside, looking out at the horizon.
"I love my home, maybe I should pay them a visit..."
From the bow of her boat, her gaze was filled with nostalgia and happiness, and she finally slowly returned to the interior of the ship.
