Nuidis Vulko was born in Atlantis and quickly rose to prominence as both a scholar and political adviser. He first served Queen Atlanna, counseling her during a turbulent time for the throne. When Orm’s father was killed, Vulko attempted to help Atlanna and the young prince escape Atlantis, arranging a safe route for them to the surface. However, Atlanna was murdered on the eve of her departure. Vulko suspected Orm of orchestrating her death, but Orm’s loyalists moved against him. Branded a traitor, Vulko fled Atlantis and began living on the surface, dedicating himself to finding Arthur Curry—the lost son of Atlanna and heir to Atlantis.

Vulko eventually located Arthur off the coast of Norway, revealing to him the truth of his birthright. He presented Arthur with a map to the Dead King’s armory, home of Atlantis’s most powerful relics, and entrusted him with Atlantean artifacts tied to the Dead King’s crown. Although Arthur doubted he would ever be accepted, Vulko maintained faith that Arthur was destined to save Atlantis.

In time, Arthur would embrace his heritage and return to Atlantis. Vulko stood by him, first as advisor and then as regent after Arthur secured the throne. His loyalty was steadfast—he even argued against leaving Arthur to die as an infant, rejecting the superstition of the curse of Kordax. Vulko helped Arthur in numerous crises, including assisting alongside the Atom in repelling microscopic invaders led by Galg the Destroyer. During an enemy attack, he supervised the forced transition of Atlantis’s population from water-breathers to air-breathers to ensure survival. When Aquagirl died, Vulko was present, and he personally crafted the harpoon that replaced Aquaman’s severed hand.

Despite his years of service, Vulko eventually grew disillusioned with Arthur’s rule. He departed Atlantis with a faction of citizens under the leadership of Arthur’s son Koryak, only to fall victim to manipulation and brainwashing that forced them into war against another undersea city. Later, during the “Obsidian Age,” Vulko was among the Atlanteans pulled thousands of years into the past. Enslaved under the sorceress Gamemnae for what felt like fifteen years, he became one of the many Atlanteans who condemned Aquaman to death on Traitor’s Rock. Though Arthur survived, the experience marked a grim fracture in their relationship.

After Arthur stepped down from the throne, Vulko was once more cast out from Atlantis. Determined to see his king restored, he orchestrated a complex plot: he hired Black Manta to steal the Dead King’s Scepter and sabotaged surface-world weapons to incite war. His actions provoked Orm to launch an invasion against the surface, which in turn forced Arthur to reclaim Atlantis’s throne. Vulko wielded the scepter to control the Trench, unleashing them as another threat, but ultimately yielded it to Arthur once his goal was achieved. Though Arthur punished him for his manipulations, Vulko accepted the consequences, believing his ends justified his means.

In later years, Vulko was granted a pardon for his role in ending the Atlantean Civil War. He was reinstated as chief adviser, this time to Queen Mera, Arthur’s queen and successor. He continued to serve Atlantis faithfully, uncovering and opposing a cabal of Atlantean sorcerers who had betrayed the throne and abused their powers.

Appearance: Vulko is depicted as a muscular, middle-aged man with a bald head and long black hair tied back into a ponytail. He has a full black beard and mustache with sideburns. His costume is a sleeveless suit featuring a blue scale-like chest and side pattern with silver trim, combined with black fabric on the torso and legs. The suit has a silver belt with a triangular buckle. He wears blue armored bracers on his forearms, and his arms are bare, showing heavy body hair and defined muscles.

Personality: Nuidis Vulko is intelligent, pragmatic, and loyal to Atlantis above all else. He believes in Arthur Curry’s right to rule and often acts to secure his place on the throne, but his methods are manipulative—using schemes, sabotage, and even war to achieve his goals. He is stern and calculating, with a strong sense of conviction, yet his belief that he knows best can make him arrogant. Though controversial, Vulko’s actions are driven by what he sees as the survival and strength of Atlantis.

Vulko possesses the natural powers of Atlantean physiology, granting him abilities far beyond those of surface-dwellers. Adapted to survive the crushing depths of the ocean, he is amphibious and able to live both underwater and on land. His body grants him superhuman strength, durability, reflexes, stamina, and speed, making him far more resilient than ordinary humans. He also benefits from enhanced senses, including vision that allows him to see in complete darkness and hearing sharp enough to detect sounds far beyond human capacity.

Alongside his physical gifts, Vulko is a scholar and intellectual. He is highly skilled in historiography, with deep knowledge of Atlantis’s past, and is versed in occultism, understanding the magical forces and artifacts tied to his world. Politically, he is a master strategist and advisor, with expertise in governance and statecraft that has made him one of Atlantis’s most influential figures across multiple reigns.
