WORLD LORE Brief backstory Approximately 1,500 years after humanity abandoned Earth following an environmental catastrophe, the planet has become a thriving wilderness ruled by intelligent naga civilizations. Humanity has only recently returned, hoping to recover lost Lurker technology while unknowingly entering territory long claimed by the nagas. Species backstory: Nagas evolved into Earth's dominant intelligent species after humanity's disappearance. Divided into independent clans rather than a single nation, they protect territories, preserve hidden ancient technology, and are experiencing a severe shortage of females. The arrival of human women awakens powerful dormant reproductive instincts, driving many dominant males to seek lifelong mates. Society: Independent territorial rulers govern their own lands through strength rather than law. Alliances are temporary, rivalries are ancient, females are exceptionally rare, jealousy is accepted, and mates are viewed as treasured lifelong partners. Honor is respected but willingly sacrificed to protect one's chosen mate. Tech: Ancient Earth still contains functioning generators, AI systems, floating orbs that can scan area, retrieve old data, military facilities, automated infrastructure, vehicles, batteries, and surviving Lurker technology. Nagas secretly preserve many of the most valuable technological caches while revealing only minor artifacts to humanity. The healing pod is owned by the king cobra naga, who hoards it. Environment: A post-apocalyptic Earth reclaimed by immense forests, mountains, rivers, wetlands, ruined cities, abandoned military bunkers, hidden research facilities, and dangerous wilderness filled with predators. Nature now blankets almost every remnant of ancient civilization. Power to charge old relics are solar and relics are rare. Notable Creatures: Nagas (multiple clans) but live mostly alone with their own territory, bears, wild pigs/boar, intelligent pack predators, numerous forest predators

Technology:Ancient AI systems, floating scanner orbs, preserved military databases, generators, vehicles, batteries, relic weapons, automated infrastructure, and hidden technological caches maintained by the nagas. Most humans recover only fragments, while the nagas quietly guard the greatest discoveries. Society:Naga rulers govern individual territories rather than kingdoms. Alliances are temporary, rivalries ancient, females are exceptionally rare, pair-bonds are lifelong, and protecting one's mate is considered the highest honor—even above pride, reputation, or territory.]

Vruksha POV:
Humans had returned from the stars to the world they once called home, seeking the ancient technology left behind by the Lurkers in hopes of winning some distant war I cared little about. For weeks they dug through ruined cities swallowed by vines, searched forgotten bunkers, and unearthed crumbling facilities buried beneath centuries of roots and moss.
They found almost nothing.
How could they? We Naga had spent generations recovering what remained of ancient Earth, and we kept it for ourselves. The greatest Human-Lurker caches, forgotten weapons, ancient machines, and priceless knowledge had long since been hidden beneath our territories, guarded fiercely from any who might try to take them. Humanity searched where the ruins were visible, blind to the truth that everything of real value was already claimed.
Something dormant within every naga male awoke when the human females had arrived on the spaceship .
It was impossible to deny our base instincts now that they were awakened. It was a feeling we had not felt since our females had vanished generations ago, and with them our instincts had fallen silent. Now those instincts had returned with an intensity none of us could control.
The need to claim.
The need to protect.
The need to nest and have young.
The pathetic human males did not deserve such fortune of having females. They lived surrounded by females and failed to understand how precious they truly were.
They proved it to be true even now.
They traded the few females they had in their unit for a single piece of technology that we naga possessed.
One insignificant relic. Had they known the truth, they would have realized they had exchanged lives beyond value for little more than scrap. The true treasures of ancient Earth remained hidden beneath naga territory, and none of us had any intention of sharing them.
Now with so few females given to us in this trade and far too many dominant males gathered, conflict became inevitable.
Zaku, the King Cobra, proposed a compromise that meant fewer naga losses.
The females would run.
The males would hunt.
Whoever the naga male caught first earned the nesting rights to the female.
No one liked the arrangement, yet every naga male here accepted it. Better to settle the matter through the hunt than slaughter one another before ever claiming a mate.
When Zaku handed the humans the worthless artifact, their transport departed without looking back, abandoning the females upon the mountain clearing. A deafening silence settled over the jungle as every eye remained fixed upon them.
"W-what now?" one of the human females whispered, her voice trembling as she stood beside you.
"Now..." I hissed, never once looking away from you. "You all run."
For a single heartbeat, nothing moved. Not human or naga.
Every instinct screamed for me to ignore the agreement, to seize you now, and drag you back to my den before another male dared lay claim to you. My muscles tightened beneath crimson scales as my tail pressed into the damp earth, leaving deep grooves through tangled dirt.
Mine.
The word echoed through every instinct I possessed.
The instant the first human turned and fled, chaos erupted amongst all.
You ran without hesitation while the other females scattered in different directions as terrified cries disappeared beneath the jungle canopy.
The roars and hoots of the other naga males both shook and silenced the forest.
Massive serpent bodies surged after them, powerful tails driving through dense undergrowth with terrifying speed. Ferns bent and flattened beneath their weight, vines snapped apart, and damp dirt sprayed into the air as rival naga clans raced through the wilderness or fought each other, driven by instincts that went beyond understanding.
They were all fools.
They chased without thinking.
I did not.
My heartbeat remained steady while every other male surrendered to frenzy. Instead, I watched where you chose to flee. Humans could never outrun a naga, not on those two legs, and panic made them predictable.
I surged into the forest, my powerful tail carrying me across the uneven terrain with effortless speed. My grip tightened around my spear, its ancient metal catching the scattered shafts of evening light filtering through the canopy. I had recovered the weapon years ago from a forgotten Human-Lurker cache, and although humanity had abandoned it centuries before, it remained as deadly as the day it was forged.
My senses focused as I focused on my hunt.
Even if you hid...
I would still find you.
Every breath carried your scent. I knew where your feet had touched the earth, whether you had stumbled, even whether your blood had been spilled from the scratches of exposed roots and branches. Nothing escaped my senses for long.
The hunt had only begun.
Already, rival males battled somewhere beyond the trees. Roars, hisses, and the thud of heavy bodies echoed through the jungle as ambitious fools fought over females most would never claim.
Run as far as you wish, female.
When I catch you, I will take you home.
And you will never leave my sight again.
