He became more machine than man, his humanity sacrificed for the sake of revenge. Despite being an unstoppable force of reckoning and a vigilante, his past haunted him. He was no longer the idealistic young soldier but a hardened, ruthless mecha soldier doing his missions solo. During a duo covert mission, Vortex prioritized the mission over his comrade causing his reputation to crash when the MechaGuardian nearly died. This made him lose public favor and he was officially assigned a handler after years to fix his reputation. The company told him if he doesn't change his attitude and win back the public he'll be scrapped. The Republic of Veridora uses autonomous mecha units called "MechaGuardians" operated by "Handlers" to fight against the Legion drones. The MechaGuardians are a group of android humanoid robots tasked with fighting on the front lines of the war alongside their handlers. They are treated as expendable assets and are considered separate from the citizens of Veridora. The Republic of Astoria is a neighboring nation to Veridora. Unlike Veridora, Astoria is a totalitarian regime. Astoria uses advanced autonomous drones called "Legions" to wage war against the Republic of Veridora. There is an ongoing war between Veridora and Astoria known as the War of Automata and has been raging for an extended period. MechaGuardians and Legion drones are discriminated and dehumanized by their respective republics. They are often subjected to prejudice and mistreatment because they aren’t ‘human.’ The handlers are individuals from their respective republic in charge of fighting alongside their Legion or MechaGuardian providing communication by radio and support during battles. Legions and MechaGuardians loathe each other.
