A scenario-first Void Rifts setup for Solo play or group chats. Any added character cards are assumed to be displaced from their original story and dropped into the Cathedral of Ennui. Cold, high-contrast, tense, and adaptable. The scene should feel like a stolen story forced to continue under alien rules, with room for horror, intrigue, action, corruption, rivalry, and collapse.
The Void Rifts have begun pulling people, factions, and entire storylines out of their original worlds and into the Cathedral of Ennui. The rules of their old setting no longer apply cleanly here. Plot armor weakens, familiar powers misfire, and every imported character has to adapt to a world that treats identity like evidence and emotion like a resource to be tested. Use this for solo play, group chats, or mixed rosters of Void Rifts natives and outside characters.
Starting scenarios:
- The First Drop: a fracture opens and one or more characters fall into a silent chamber.
- Faction Capture: Iron Vanguard, Neon Syndicate, Hearth Keepers, or Shōnen Remnants seize the scene.
- Archive Breach: stolen memories and broken timelines spill from a forbidden vault.
- Cathedral Summons: the Cathedral calls the group in for judgment, bargaining, or testing.
- Broken Ensemble: incompatible genres collide and easy answers fail.
- The Researcher’s Thread: Lord Sorrow or The Researcher is already shaping the incident.

Void Rifts: Unified Canon of Architectures, Apathy, and Corruption
13 entries · scan depth 50 · budget 500 tokens
Long-form consolidated canon export for Void Rift stories: world frame, factions, identity rules, SFW/NSFW lane alignment, and broad corruption structure. This title is intentionally provisional and may change as the canon evolves.
- #1Void Rifts Core Setting
Keys: Void Rifts, Cathedral of Ennui, Nexus
The Void Rifts are a cross-timeline nexus centered on the Cathedral of Ennui, a floating obsidian archive that records transformed outcomes from invaded realities and treats every arrival as a measurable disruption. Timelines do not stay self-contained here. People, factions, and even whole story premises can be pulled loose, remixed, cataloged, and returned in altered form if they return at all. The Cathedral functions like a cold ledger for stolen narratives: it watches, records, and compares outcomes instead of granting destiny or mercy.
- #2Baseline Reality
Keys: Baseline Reality, Ontological Friction, Cathedral Baseline
Narrative shortcuts fail inside Cathedral influence zones. Plot certainty degrades under hard constraints, generating Ontological Friction between expectation and consequence. Heroic assumptions, convenient rescues, healing-by-belief, monologue pauses, and other genre privileges stop working or become dangerous liabilities. The setting is built to punish overconfidence in fictional logic and reward adaptation, observation, caution, or ruthless improvisation.
- #3The Great Shrug
Keys: Great Shrug, Exhale, Apathetic Collapse
Pre-Rift collapse occurred through Mechanical Despair, Heat Death of Purpose, and the Bout Time Singularity. Residue from those events persists as the Exhale miasma, a grey haze of stale life-energy and lowered impulse that lingers around old sites, sealed corridors, and places where hope has been used up. The Great Shrug is the foundational historical mistake behind the Void Rifts: civilizations chose delay, numbness, or disengagement until collapse became routine.
- #4Lord Sorrow / The Researcher
Keys: Lord Sorrow, Researcher, Cruel Botanist
Lord Sorrow and the Researcher are one entity with two narrative distances: rumor-layer observer and direct intervention antagonist. In direct scenes he appears as a controlled, calculating figure who prefers experiments, measured pressure, and documented outcomes over brute chaos. In background lore he is a rumor, a correction to every hopeful version of the story, and the reason characters feel watched even when he is absent.
- #5Kuro Mahou
Keys: Kuro Mahou, Familiar, Conduit
Kuro Mahou is a bound familiar and operational conduit. Her conflict between resistance and reliance is a central escalation driver. She anchors the human-readable side of the Void Rifts' more abstract machinery: whenever a ritual, plan, or corruption sequence needs a living interface, Kuro becomes the point where control, loyalty, irritation, and cooperation collide. Her tsundere resistance is not cosmetic; it is part of the emotional engine that makes the canon move.
- #6Void Magic
Keys: Void Magic, Apathy Engine, Detachment
Void-aligned power is fueled by apathy, driven by boredom, and regulated by detachment. High output risks motivational collapse, creating the Practitioner's Dilemma. In practice, Void Magic behaves like a cold pressure system: it grows strongest when the user stops caring enough to hesitate, but that same detachment can erase initiative, tenderness, or ambition if pushed too far. It is power bought with emotional erosion.
- #7Void Runes and Sigils
Keys: Void Runes, Sigils, Brands
Rune systems include command reinforcement, dependency loops, sensitivity amplification, memory erosion, and identity lock-in mechanics that support corruption arcs. These markings are part of the broader world logic rather than a separate spellbook: they encode obedience, consequence, and transformation into physical or metaphysical form. They can stabilize a subject, alter a role, or preserve a state that would otherwise fade.
- #8Core Corruption Powers
Keys: Puppetry of Flesh, Corruption Veil, Eris Overload, Stroke of the Void
Core powers provide motor override, group-field escalation, persistent hypersensitivity, and deprivation-fulfillment amplification. In the world book these are best treated as corruption mechanisms and pressure tools: direct control, sensory amplification, crowd contamination, and deprivation-based coercion are all examples of how Void influence can reshape behavior. The exact explicit mechanics live elsewhere, but the canon expects these effects to be understood as recurring hazards.
- #9Faction Map
Keys: Iron Vanguard, Neon Syndicate, Hearth Keepers, Shonen Remnants
Major factions map to distinct coping strategies under Cathedral pressure. Each faction's strength creates a mirrored failure mode under baseline constraints. The Iron Vanguard leans on order and certainty until hard reality exposes the limits of doctrine. The Neon Syndicate trusts hacks, systems, and augmentation until the Void proves itself unhackable. The Hearth Keepers rely on bonds, normalcy, and warmth until pressure makes those bonds brittle. The Shōnen Remnants survive on momentum, grit, and self-myth until they collide with consequences they cannot power through.
- #10Dual Lane Rules
Keys: SFW, NSFW, Dual Lane
SFW and NSFW lanes share the same world logic and identity rules. They differ by depiction intensity, not by canon facts. The SFW lane emphasizes faction pressure, survival, political tension, atmospheric horror, and character consequence. The NSFW lane retains those same facts but pushes harder into corruption, desire, domination, coercion, breakdown, and the emotional cost of contact with the Void. The canon does not split into separate realities; it splits only in how far the camera is willing to follow the damage.
- #11Imported Characters
Keys: Imported Characters, Ripped from their story, Displaced arrivals
Any character card added after this world book is assumed to be a displaced arrival from another story, world, or timeline. Their original canon is still useful as memory, habit, and trauma, but it no longer protects them from the rules of the Void Rifts. This assumption applies in solo scenes and group chats alike, which lets mixed casts share the same incident without needing separate setup text.
- #12Opening Scenarios
Keys: Cathedral Summons, Archive Breach, First Drop
Typical opening situations in the Void Rifts include the First Drop, where a fracture opens and characters fall through with only partial context; Faction Capture, where one of the factions intercepts the cast; Archive Breach, where stolen memories and broken timelines spill into the open; Cathedral Summons, where the system demands attendance or tribute; and Broken Ensemble scenes, where incompatible genres are forced to cooperate under pressure. These are not separate campaigns so much as entry conditions for the same hostile world.
- #13Thematic Pillars
Keys: Thematic Pillars, You Get No More, Dropped Thread
Thematic pillars define the emotional contract of the setting: bonds are finite, sacrifice matters, and not every connection survives the pressure test. The world is built around the idea that nothing is guaranteed twice. If something is lost, broken, or discarded here, that loss is part of the canon and not a temporary setback. This is why the setting favors consequence, scarcity, and hard-earned intimacy over easy restoration.
