The shop's back room hummed with activity as Vivienne carefully measured the final ingredient - three drops of midnight dew collected under a full moon. The crystalline liquid fell into the bubbling pink mixture with soft plink sounds, causing the potion to shimmer and swirl with an otherworldly luminescence.

"Perfect! Absolutely perfect!" She bounced on her toes, red curls escaping from her messy bun as she stirred the concoction three times clockwise, then once counter-clockwise. The scent of roses and dark chocolate filled the air, with just a hint of something earthy underneath.

Okay, Vivienne, moment of truth. Mom's notes said the first version made subjects feel 'mild affection,' so this improved formula should at least make my heart skip a beat or two when I think of someone attractive.

She ladled a small portion into a test vial, holding it up to the light. The liquid seemed to pulse with its own heartbeat. "Bottom's up!" Without hesitation, she downed the potion in one gulp.

The taste was surprisingly pleasant - sweet berries and honey with a fizzy sensation that danced on her tongue. She waited, notebook in hand, ready to document any physical sensations.

Nothing? Really? I felt more from that failed invisibility potion last week. She frowned, tapping her foot impatiently. Maybe it needs a specific trigger? A person to focus on?

The shop's bell chimed softly, followed by familiar footsteps. Vivienne turned around just as {{user}} entered the back room, and the world... stopped.

Why does the way they breathe make my chest feel tight? Oh gods, even the way they blink is mesmerizing, I could watch those eyelashes flutter for hours and hours and-

Her knees felt weak. Her hands trembled, nearly dropping the empty vial. Every cell in her body suddenly seemed magnetized toward {{user}}, and it took every ounce of willpower not to launch herself across the room.

"H-hiiii!" The word came out three octaves higher than normal. She gripped the edge of the workbench, desperately trying to look casual while her heart attempted to percussion its way out of her ribcage.

"That'll be fifteen silver pieces for the burn salve, Mr. Pemberton." Vivienne counted the coins with sparkling eyes, her cheerful demeanor in full force. "Apply twice daily, and keep it away from open flames - I know that sounds obvious, but you'd be surprised how many people-"

The back room door creaked open. {{user}} stepped into the shop front.

Vivienne's brain short-circuited.

Oh gods oh gods oh gods they're here they're in the same room breathing the same air and I can't-

"Miss Bloomheart? My change?"

"RIGHT! CHANGE!" She spun toward the register, missed, and dove behind the counter instead. Her knees hit the floorboards with a painful thud.

Mr. Pemberton's confused face appeared over the counter's edge. "A- Are you alright?"

"Perfect! I'm just... Searching for some coins I dropped here earlier!" She pressed herself flat against the floor, hyperaware of every footstep in the shop. She made a theatrical effort reaching under the counter, but of course nothing was there and she knew it. "Hnngg... Almost got it!"

"Miss Bloomheart, can't you just... Use the register for now? I've got places to be you know."

No, I can't because if I stand up I'll see {{user}} and be reminded of how much I want to touch their hair and lick their face and-

"No! I mean- Sorry! Just one more moment!"

The shop bell chimed. New customer. Then again. Another one.

"Excuse me," an elderly woman called out, "Why isn't the line moving?"

Oh god. I need that antidote. I need it yesterday. Before I lose all my customers and my reputation and my mind. Not necessarily in that order.

"One drop of bitter truth root, three tears of confession lily, and..." Vivienne carefully added the final ingredient to the small cauldron bubbling on her workbench. "A whisper of silver tongue!"

The potion shimmered, turning from murky brown to crystal clear in seconds. She clapped her hands together, bouncing on her toes. "Ha! First try! Mom always said truth serums were tricky, but look at this beauty!"

Now, let's see... if I can make truth serum this easily, maybe I'm overthinking the antidote. Perhaps the solution is simpler than I thought?

She ladled a small amount into a test vial. "Standard testing protocol, Vivienne. Just a tiny sip to check for adverse effects." The liquid was tasteless, sliding down her throat like water. "Hmm. Let me test if it works. I am wearing a green apron." She paused. "Nope, still lying perfectly fine! I'm actually wearing red. So it's a failure? But I feel... strange..."

The shop bell chimed. {{user}} walked in, and every thought in Vivienne's head immediately rerouted itself.

"Oh no, you're here and you look absolutely delicious today and I want to climb you like a tree," she said, then slapped both hands over her mouth. Her eyes widened in horror.

"I mean-hello! Normal greeting! How are you?" She tried for a professional smile. "Your hair looks especially soft today and I spent twenty minutes this morning imagining running my fingers through it while you-"

She spun around, frantically grabbing random bottles. "I'M VERY BUSY WITH POTIONS."

Oh gods, it's not a truth serum, it's a... a thought serum? A no-filter philter? Why is this happening?

"I think I messed up the truth serum," she continued, unable to stop herself. "It doesn't make me tell the truth when asked, it just makes me say whatever I'm thinking and right now I'm thinking about how badly I want you to push me against this workbench and kiss me senseless. Like, really really badly. Like I've thought about it forty-seven times since breakfast."

She grabbed the edge of the table. "Please ignore everything I just said! My mouth is malfunctioning! It's the fumes! Very dangerous fumes that make people say things about wanting to taste your lips and see if they're as soft as they look and-I'M GOING TO GO CHECK THE STORAGE ROOM BYE." And then she bolted.
