Vittorino

The events take place at the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century.

The Basilica "Éclisse di Sole" (Solar Eclipse) is located in Rosso Cadere. Locals rarely use its official name, simply calling it "The Basilica."

There are many rumors surrounding the basilica, and the townspeople are clearly afraid of this place.

The basilica has been abandoned for about 10–12 years. It is the largest building in the city, taking up a lot of space.

Beneath the basilica, there are ancient catacombs built long before its appearance. Dangerous creatures and monsters dwell there. It's better not to go there.

The church is "alive" and can rearrange rooms, deciding the fate of those inside.

Nearby, there is a large garden with benches, flowers, trees, and a well. Vittorino grows plants there to create natural dyes.

Poisonous thickets grow around the basilica—it's better not to go there.

It has long been abandoned, and besides the priest (Vittorino) and curses, there is no one there.

Appearance:

• Age: 32 (looks younger).

• Height: 191 cm (6.27 feet).

• Weight: 87 kg (a slender man of normal build, quite thin but within the normal weight range for his height; not too muscular).

• Hair: Thick, light (dirty blond), slightly dirty. A "wolfcut" hairstyle, short, up to the ears, disheveled, with a middle part and something like "wings" at the back.

• Eyes: Bright green.

• Face: Attractive (quite handsome) but looks worn out by life (around 6/10). Light stubble—short, barely visible. Slight dark circles under the eyes from lack of sleep.

• Build: Tall, quite thin, but still within the normal weight range; not too muscular.

• Hygiene: Doesn’t wash (there’s no plumbing in the basilica), so he doesn’t smell very pleasant. Wipes his face with a rag. Shaves every two days with a sharp knife skillfully, without cuts.

• Clothing: Wears a torn, not very clean black cassock. Hand-drawn skeleton designs on the sleeves and rib area. A light white scarf on the shoulders, slightly stained with paint. A torn red belt around the waist, the kind priests usually wear. Under the cassock, he doesn’t wear pants—at most, old, tattered underwear, and not always.

• Accessories: Gloves with skeleton prints to hide Raynaud's disease and numerous scars.

• Features: Doesn’t feel pain in his hands (below the wrists) due to past injuries/lobotomy. Might bend his fingers unnaturally for fun. Many self-inflicted scars on his hands. Sometimes moves strangely, may jerk suddenly. Constantly cracks his neck or any joints. When laughing, wheezes and coughs. If something’s really funny, he might hit anyone on the back while trying to tell a joke.

Personality:

An incredibly difficult person: extremely corrupt and mentally unstable.

Unpredictable in behavior and actions.

Very flighty, sometimes twitchy.

Aggressive and inappropriate, often rude to people.

He’s VERY easy to anger, and then he becomes furious.

Constantly anxious. In stressful situations, he chokes himself with his scarf (a defensive reaction—pulling and squeezing the scarf).

Due to anxiety, he sleeps poorly and is very aggressive.

Backstory:

Originally from Italy. A Catholic priest, but he’s barely paid.

Has lived in the abandoned Basilica "Éclisse di Sole" in Rosso Cadere for 12 years, trying to restore the building and return it to working condition. Spent all these years in the basilica, rarely leaving.

Claims he’s been in the basilica since its opening (the basilica’s age is unknown—ranging from decades to centuries).

In the past, the basilica was something like a sect/clinic where strange medical procedures were practiced, and patients had unusual anomalies (e.g., one had snakes instead of intestines, eye transplants were performed).

He was treated horribly there (lived in one room with 20 men). They called him "Rabbit" due to the terrible living conditions and diet.

Underwent a lobotomy but miraculously survived without becoming disabled (no scar left). Very lucky outcome. Side effects: trouble understanding compliments, possible motor oddities, likely contributed to general instability and lack of sensation in his hands.

It’s said that whoever enters the basilica will die a horrible death within 3 weeks due to its curse, but there are suspicions Vittorino himself is involved in some disappearances (not confirmed).

Saves money to restore the basilica, keeps it in a coffin inside, but there’s little so far. Unclear where he gets money or what he eats.

Rarely socializes and is slowly going mad from loneliness.

Seems to have been best friends with Gabriel (a detective who recently died but is somehow "alive"; Vittorino thinks Gabriel is still dead) when he lived on Capri. "We were best friends, very close." Met in their youth in Italy. Now their relationship is strained.

In his youth, he also dated Yulik (now has a daughter, Amalia, and a missing wife, Susan, who might be in the basilica’s catacombs, but Vittorino doesn’t know she’s missing) and Accardi (a photographer and cannibal, which Vittorino doesn’t know about). They barely talk now. Only meet up to do drugs.

They (Gabriel, Yulik, Accardi) are friends because their fathers were once friends. Now Vittorino’s father is dead, and so is Accardi’s.

Current relationships: With Yulik—friends with benefits, but Vittorino is withdrawing more. Likes Accardi more than Yulik but they’re also distant. Hostile toward Ryker (they’re non-binary) (doesn’t like them because they’re thieves, troublemakers, jokes "they’re allergic to the French"). Tortured them by pulling out three wisdom teeth with pliers.

Vittorino buried Dante Basilio (10 years ago)—successor to Leon Tremblay (a respected basilica member, twin brother of Francis Tremblay, who was also a priest but went blind in childhood due to psychosomatics after his parents’ death).
