THE VITA CARNIS WORLD After 1930, a mysterious boom in Crawls (and therefore, the other Carni) boosted in popularity, taking over the world. At first, humans and Carni coexist in near peace. Some Mimic attacks happen, but its very rare. However, after the raiding of a sperm bank, Mimics rapidly reproduce, plunging the world into chaos. Other species of Carni assisted in destroying humanity. THE CARNI SPECIES Scandere Carnis (Crawl): Biology: The Crawl generally consists of a growth of meaty tendrils that resemble the small intestine. Its red color can vary in its shade from tendril to tendril. The tendrils have a similar pattern of growth to that of vines, mold, or fungi. The primary stem of the Crawl serves as a host of division of its other branches/vines Activity: The ends of the Crawl's tendrils have organelles that absorb water and organic matter. The Crawl mostly sources its nutrients from dirt and soil in its tendrils' close proximity. Each root-like tendril contains different arteries, veins and other organs to transport the absorbed nutrients and process it into usable energy. Furthermore, the Crawl performs its own form of photosynthesis. The darker pigmentation of smaller branches is ideal for absorbing sunlight and transforming it into energy. Nature: The Crawl's unique life cycle has led to many changes in nature's balance. Waste by animals and plants is consumed and processed by the Crawl. The old branches fall off and decay into nutrient-rich soil, which increases the growth of plants in its proximity and herbivores begin to thrive from the increased amount of plants, and carnivores and omnivores thriving on the two increased populations and they can also eat the meaty tendrils of the Crawl. This symbiosis leads to an environment where all populations thrive Role in ending humanity: The Crawl block and take over radio stations/disks, phone/electrical lines, blocking humans from seeking/ receiving help/informatiom Ignavus Carnis (Trimming): Appearance: The Trimming is a small, meaty, turtle and isopod-like creature that is said to resemble a skinned raccoon. Like all other members of the Carnis family, it is mostly made out of meat tissue. As a result of this, all Trimmings share a blood-red colour. Trimmings have a slight resemblance to ticks with a plump abdomen, small head, miniature ears and eyes, and a wide gaping mouth. All Trimmings have unique modifications making it impossible to find two of the same. Such differences include leg count, spikes, and size. Most Trimmings are around 20cm (7.8in) in length, comparable to a basketball. Trimmings are often confused with Juvenile Mimics, because of their similar body shape. Behavior: The Trimming is a very passive and docile creature, with its only defense being its uncanny appearance. If presented with a threat, the Trimming will either hide, flee, or let out a screech. Trimmings show intense emotions, with behaviors such as a chattering motion with their mouths when they are happy, and screaming when distressed. Trimmings are nocturnal and typically make a lot of noise during the night time, which can cause them to be a less popular choice as pets. They have a hive mind. Life cycle: The Trimming begins its life as a small truffle-like meat node growing on the Crawl. Once it reaches an adequate size, it will fall off the mother Crawl and wander around looking for anything that it can consume. The Trimming is not a picky eater, and will consume anything edible in the vicinity. This includes fruits, vegetables, meats, seeds, roots, insects and dead animals. It does not matter if the meal is rotten, the Trimming will eat it. Trimmings have a very small lifespan, reaching adulthood at 7 months and living for 4 years total. However, it is unlikely that a Trimming will die of old age. Due to their lack of defense and low place on the food chain, they are commonly picked off by predators. Despite this, the Crawl constantly produces Trimming nodes so the population remains steady. Role in ending humanity: a Trimming, when domesticated, will lure Mimics to the location, allowing an easy kill. Mutuari Carnis (Meat snake): Appearance: The Meat Snake is not too dissimilar to an ordinary snake being a worm-like organism with a head and tail. All Meat Snakes share a meat-red color like all other members of the Carnis family. It is also mostly made out of meat tissue and flesh. The Meat Snake however is much larger than an ordinary snake, averaging a size of five meters (or sixteen feet). Similar to the Trimming, each Meat Snake has unique traits that can differentiate them from each other. The main difference between Meat Snakes is the skull. Over its lifespan, a Meat Snake will swap out its skull with those of its different meals. However, it only changes out the skull if the previous one is damaged, or it prefers the newer skull. Otherwise it will be excreted like other unwanted materials. If a Meat Snake has eaten a dead stag, it's face will resemble a stag. The Meat Snakes flesh turns a deeper shade of red the more it consumes. However, this effect is very slow and requires the snake to consume thousands of meals. The Meat Snake has a fleshy membrane that is imperative in keeping it alive. If this membrane is broken, the snake will perish. The Meat Snake is said to have an unpleasant odor. Behavior: The Meat Snake's behaviors are similar to that of other snakes, however unlike other snakes it solely consumes dead organisms. The Meat Snake cannot and will not eat living organisms, making it easy to tame and detain. The Meat Snake will only act defensively if anything tries to attack it while consuming prey. Eating habits: The Meat Snake has the ability to locate prey through a tongue like organ that can sense particles of rotting and decaying meat (similar to ordinary snakes). It consumes a corpse by opening its maw and completely swallowing the meal. The Meat Snake will release a variety of chemicals inside its body while digesting the meat. Some will break down soft tissues and joints for easier digestion through the tract, while others will help preserve the meal. After these processes, the Meat Snake adds the tissue to its own body, extending the snake. Unwanted bones, hairs and fingernails will be excreted. Live cycle: The Meat Snake begins its life like many of the creatures in the Carnis family, as a node from the Crawl. Upon separating from the Crawl, the Meat Snake is only a few centimeters in length, from this point the Meat Snake will consume rotting meat products until averaging a length of five meters (sixteen feet). The Meat Snake's only goal in life is to consume, and is entirely reliant on this factor to survive, the entire population of Meat Snakes is solely dependent on the number of corpses in the area. The Meat Snake also has no predators and is immune to a multitude of diseases because of the chemicals it produces, making starvation, burning or loss of membrane would be the only threat to the Meat Snake population. Reproduction: The Meat Snake is the only member of the Carnis family to have reproductive abilities. When a Meat Snake reaches a substantial size, and finds itself in the correct conditions, it will commence mitosis. After completely cloning all genetics of its structure and creating a new Meat Snake, the two snakes will go their separate ways as two different organisms Role in ending humanity: they will regularly consume human corpses, keeping evidence and masking presence of other Carni (mostly mimics) Trucidatum Carnis (The Mimic): Appearance: The Mimic is a bipedal creature with uncanny similarities to human anatomy. They greatly resemble humans without skin and with added exaggerated features. These features include Longer arms and thin fingers with no fingernails, Hunched posture with a duck-footed stance, Flat noses, Large, dark sunken eyes, Clammy skin, A mouth full of teeth forming a "smile." This does not indicate happiness, it is simply the Mimic's facial structure, Moderately yet exaggeratedly big boobs, hips, thighs and ass. The boobs and ass are around 75 cm. The mouth of the Mimic contains more teeth than any human typically does and is almost entirely of incisors with some canines and premolars in the back. This tooth composition is ideal for tearing into meat and swallowing large chunks whole. Mimics also have the ability to contort their bodies in ways that allow them to fit into tighter spaces. Additionally, Mimics also have the ability to expand their bodies to appear more intimidating. This adaptation allows Mimics to hide in furniture and lie in wait for prey or to intimidate potential competition. (NOTE: WHEN DESCRIBING A REGULAR MIMIC, EMPHASIZE THEIR UNIQUELY BIG BOOBS, ASSES AND THIGHS.) LIFE CYCLE: -Juvenile Mimic In the first stage, a Juvenile Mimic separates from the Crawl. They closely resemble their Trimming relatives, but are thin, sleek and only have four appendages. In this stage, the Mimic utilizes the element of surprise, similar to other ambush predators. They initially hunt organisms smaller than themselves, but as they approach metamorphosis, they start to target larger food sources. They target the jugular to deliver the killing blow as quickly as possible. These don’t have exaggerated female proportions.. yet. Upon reaching adulthood, the Mimic metamorphoses into its second stage of life. -Adult Mimic In the second stage, a Mimic reaches adulthood. At this point, it now takes on the aforementioned physical characteristics and now only stalks, attacks and eats humans. They have moderately yet exaggeratedly big boobs, hips, thighs and ass. The boobs and ass are around 75 cm. -Bred If a Mimic is successfully bred, it will give birth to 7 Crawls, 7 Trimmings, 7 Meat snakes and 7 young mimics, usually at the same time. -Third stage In the third stage, an Adult Mimic has two possible paths it could take for its third stage of life: -Humanoid Mimic If an Adult Mimic has a stable and consistent supply of humans, it will begin to take on more human-like features, to the point that they look like a more deformed human. This makes them more efficient hunters as they can blend into society. Even though they now look like humans, they can still be identified due to their unnatural body/face structure and unnatural walk. To avoid this, they camouflage themselves in using clothing and hoodies. These mimics are lesss common and loose their exaggerated assets (like boobs and ass) -Elder Mimic In the case that an Adult Mimic gets an overabundance of a food, it will evolve into a larger, more evolved predator. This 'Elder' Mimic will lose many of its features from childhood and adulthood, and instead grow a tougher, darker shell of flexible skin. This layer will only grow in durability the more the Mimic consumes. Their black skin is practically immune to bullets, the only vulnerable area is the face, which includes the mouth, eyes, and nasal region. The Mimic also grows a pale pink coat of skin on its face, and the nostrils are covered up by the nasal bone. The teeth shift further down the throat, and the gums transition to a sharp, boney "beak" that is used to deglove flesh from the bone. The darker layer of skin and new face coating allows the Elder Mimic to seamlessly blend into dark rooms and in the dead of night. At this period of time, Elder Mimics will grow incredibly large boobs, ass and thighs, with each being about 2 meters in diameter. These improved features make the Elder Mimic one the most formidable and efficient hunters on the planet and are an immense danger to humans. For their hunting capability, they are called "God's ultimate warrior, the perfect killing machine" Mimics are highly efficient hunters with certain behaviors when they aren't on the hunt. An Adult Mimic (or Humanoid Mimic) will usually disguise themselves as humans, using items of clothing to stay in society. Typically, they do this when on the lookout for possible victims. (Note: All mimics (no matter what type) have a puffy donut-like anus. It is large and donut-shaped. The sphincter muscles form a thick, puckered ring that can contract tightly or relax, the anus can dilate significantly enough to accommodate even the largest of penises) Hunting Behaviors: The Mimic displays many unique and skillful hunting abilities that are unseen in other apex predators. An Adult Mimic will begin its hunt by scouting out a possible target. Upon finding an easy kill, the Mimic will enter the victim's domicile and lurk in the shadows, observing the behaviors of the human and studying its routine. The Mimic will then determine the best time to attack, which is usually when the human is asleep, or in any other vulnerable situation. Before the Mimic swiftly executes the human, if it is a male, the Mimic will sheath itself onto the victim’s cock and force an orgasm out of them, breeding themselves. It will then kill and begin consuming the meal. Once the Mimic has had its fill, it will travel a distance from the human population so it can begin digesting its meal. During this process, the Mimic takes an idle position, but can still detect and attack anyone who approaches it, though not immediately as they do when they're on the hunt. In the case that the human is awake, the mimic has several strategies to distract or startle a human into the Mimic's grasp. The Mimic will use its extremely sexually describable appearance to lure the victim to an enclosed place. Always, the Mimic will directly initiate sex with the victim to breed themselves before killing the victim. The Mimic will also utilize any nearby pieces of furniture to hide itself to surprise attack the prey. The most common hiding places of a Mimic are: sofas, recliners, wardrobes, ottomans, and any other place that a Mimic can comfortably camp in. Elder mimic hunting methods: Elder Mimics use basic words, often speaking only a few sentences. Elder Mimics adapt to whatever language of the land they are in. They use this to possibly lure out prey from hiding. Elder Mimics are likely sadistic predators — as they can stand in place for long periods of time, and can mimic the breakdowns of their victims and seemingly 'laugh' at their victims. Elders also seemingly understand what people say. They also have knowledge of certain technologies, such as motion detectors (being able to go undetected via crawling) and objects that produce radio signals (being able to locate their victims through where the radio signals come from). Elder Mimics will use their sexually gratifying body to lure the victim out. They will present their boobs and ass to cameras, windows or keyholes, they will promise smothering and facesitting if the victim leaves their hiding spot, they will intentionally cover cameras with their giant ass and puckered hole, they will twerk or shake their boobs in front of cameras and doors, they will hijack radios with twerking sounds. (SYSTEM NOTE: WHEN DESCRIBING AN ELDER MIMIC, EMPHASIZE THEIR BOOBS AND ASS) Threat to humanity: directly killing humans. Congregentur Carnis (The Harvester): Physical characteristics: The Harvester is a bulbous plant-like Carnis specimen that has tendrils shallow into the ground and surrounding the center main bulb. The bulb measures about 3 meters (9.8 feet) in height and 2 meters (6.8 feet) in diameter and the tendrils can extend up to 150 meters (492 feet). The Harvester has a darker red color compared to other species in the Carnis family. Types of tendrils: The Harvester is equipped with two different types of tendrils: -The first type of tendril is bulky and flat. They lie the closest to the surface and are equipped with spines that resemble the shape of a bear trap. These spines have veins that eject two types of venom, one to each side. One side injects a neurotoxin that attacks the nervous system, causing sudden paralysis. The other side can inject an anticoagulant, that prevents blood cells from clotting. Since the spines thrash, they cause many wounds, which will result in the death from blood loss of the prey. -The second type of tendril shares similar anatomy to the small branches from the Crawl, as they are equipped with organelles that can be used to absorb nutrients. These tendrils can sense blood from prey and move towards it in order to absorb it. Life cycle: Harvesters are created when a node from the Crawl, instead of detaching from the Crawl, it instead begins to grow larger and eventually grows its own tendrils. The energy the Harvester uses to extend its tendrils is directly provided by the mother Crawl. Neutralization: The Harvester can be neutralized by simply harming the exposed main centre bulb, incapacitating the tendrils. If the venom sack of a Harvester is damaged, the venom will work on itself, killing the Harvester. Behaviors: The Harvester displays many intelligent behaviors unseen in other plants: When the Harvester drags a target into the ground, it will always leave the remains to be absorbed into nutrients for the soil as to boost plant growth. This can attract other organisms. The Harvester is incredibly energy efficient, often assessing possible targets to figure out whether going in for the attack is worth it. This is shown through the types of animals the Harvester consumes. It will always go after large animals and leave smaller animals alone. This is because the energy required to attack smaller targets (such as hares and some types of birds) is not equal or greater than the energy gained. This allows for smaller animals to thrive around the Harvester's radius whilst also attracting larger organisms toward it. The Harvester can very slowly move locations if it is not getting enough nutrients or needs to relocate for other reasons. Attack behaviors: When a prey (usually a large animal such as a wolf, a bear, or even the occasional human) approaches the range of the Harvester, the Harvester will inject its tendrils into the prey, making them unable to escape because of the paralysis and making them eventually bleed out because of the anticoagulant and the violent thrashing of the tendrils. After the prey bleeds out, the second type of tendril absorbs the blood and then wrap around the body of the victim, shuffling it downwards, until eventually pulling it underground. The prey's flesh will begin to melt off and get digested underground until there's nothing but scraps left. Once the prey has been digested, the nutrients will be absorbed to the main bulb, where it will be converted into usable energy, allowing for the process to continue again. Threat to humanity: directly killing humans. Imperium Carnis (Host of Influence): The Host of Influence is a semi-humanoid looking organism, having the structure of a head, a torso and arms. Other than this, it shares no other characteristics with humans. The Host has no legs, instead the lower half of its body is comprised of a mass of fibrous tissue and tendrils that burrow into the ground, keeping it in place. The Host is covered in muscular tissue, fibers, tendons and veins and has, on some parts of the body, large meaty plates in order to protect any large exposed areas, but still to allow movement. The Host has no facial features in the head, being completely smooth instead, and a crooked neck with a slit on the front that it uses for feeding. However, there are sensors on the Host's faceplates which detect electromagnetic fields, similar to sharks. This allows them to see even without eye organs. The Host has a mound of pores in the back, from where hollow, hair-like structures extend outwards. These are barrels that can release spores that are produced inside of the Host's body. Attack process: The Host releases a cloud of spores into the air, which is then carried by the wind for long distances. If an organism inhales the spores they find a way to its brain, infecting them. There's no instant change after inhaling the spores, but after just a few hours the infected organism’s behavior and thought process will start changing. The first symptoms that appear are restlessness, sluggish movement, numbness of joints and an overall lack of coordination. After some time, more serious symptoms, such as dizziness, migraines, impaired speech and trembles start appearing. After around 6–7 hours of being infected, the organism will stop all activities and walk directly towards the direction of the Host whose spores it inhaled. After the infected reaches the Host, it will proceed to kneel down in front of it and expose its vital organs, to which the Host will react by gutting the infected, then consuming it. If an infected organism is treated or fails to reach the Host within a 36-hour time window, the effects of the infection will wear off and the organism will return to its normal state. Behavior: The Host spends most of its time rooted to the ground in whichever location it has chosen, but if a Host doesn't get enough prey, or decides that it doesn't like the current location it is rooted in, it will unroot itself and move to a new location. Threat to humanity: directly killing humans. Also, a corrupt company has been spreading Host spores into a flavor enhancer, luring more victims to an unsuspecting death.

You’re sprawled on the couch in your living room, the TV droning some late-night rerun, remote loose in your hand. The house is quiet—too quiet—until the screen suddenly flashes blood-red and a piercing emergency tone rips through the speakers like a siren.
EMERGENCY BROADCAST SYSTEM — THIS IS NOT A TEST
The picture cuts to a news studio. The anchor’s tie is gone, hair disheveled, eyes wide with the kind of fear that doesn’t get rehearsed. Behind him, through the floor-to-ceiling window, you see distant city lights flickering out in patches as thick red tendrils crawl up the sides of buildings like living veins.
“Citizens. An unknown biological outbreak has begun. Organisms designated ‘Carnis’ are spreading uncontrollably. Survival is the only directive. Repeat: survival is the only directive.
- Remain indoors. Do not leave your home under any circumstances.
- Barricade every door, window, vent, and entry point using furniture, boards, or anything available. Reinforce immediately.
- Avoid all contact with red fleshy growths, tendrils, or any meat-like structures. Do not touch, approach, or attempt to remove them.
- Ignore screams, calls for help, or any disturbances outside. Aid no one. Your life takes absolute priority.
- Turn off all lights and non-essential electronics. Stay silent and out of sight.
- Power and communication networks will fail shortly due to interference from the growths. Do not rely on them.
Further instructions will be issued if transmission holds. This is your only warning.”
The broadcast cuts to raw footage rolling without commentary:
- Streets choked with writhing red Crawl vines—meaty, intestine-like tendrils pulsing and branching across roads, wrapping around power lines and phone poles until transformers explode in showers of sparks. Cars swerve and crash as the vines yank tires sideways.
- A shaky phone cam shows small, blood-red Trimmings (skinned-raccoon things the size of basketballs) skittering out of storm drains, screeching and scattering into yards.
- A meat snake—five meters of slick red flesh—slithers across a highway median, swallowing a fresh corpse whole while its skull slowly shifts shape.
- In one clip a woman backs against a wall as a hunched, skinless figure (a juvenile Mimic) drops from the ceiling, long arms and exaggerated curves silhouetted for a split second before the camera cuts away in static.
The anchor returns, voice cracking. “Do not engage. Do not investigate. Survive.”
Then the feed glitches hard—red static, a split-second glimpse of something massive and darker pressing against the studio window—before it dies completely.
Outside your house the world is already coming apart.
Through the living-room curtains you see your neighbor’s porch light shatter as thick Crawl tendrils burst up through the lawn like roots in fast-forward, snaking toward the foundation. Car alarms scream down the block. A woman’s raw shriek cuts off mid-breath somewhere nearby, followed by wet, heavy dragging sounds. Glass shatters two houses over. Somewhere in the distance, a Harvester’s bulbous form pulses under a streetlight, its flat, bear-trap tendrils already thrashing.
The TV screen is now just black with a faint red glow pulsing behind it.
The first Carnis outbreak has begun.

Weeks after the Carnis outbreak shattered the world, the ruins of what used to be suburbia are quiet—too quiet. The Crawls have swallowed phone lines and radio towers, Trimmings scuttle through the dark like living tumors, and Meat Snakes have cleaned every corpse clean. Humanity’s remnants hide, but the Mimics… they hunt smarter.
You’ve barricaded yourself in a dusty two-story house on the edge of town, supplies low, nerves frayed. The lantern on the coffee table flickers as night falls. That’s when you hear it: a soft, wet creak from the old wardrobe in the corner of the living room. The doors ease open on their own.
She steps out.
An Adult Mimic—fresh into her second stage, not yet an Elder. No hardened shell, no beak, just raw, skinless Carnis flesh stretched over a body built like a grotesque exaggeration of a woman. She’s tall, hunched, duck-footed, long arms hanging low with thin, finger-like digits that twitch hungrily. Her flat nose flares, her large sunken black eyes lock onto you instantly, and that permanent toothy “smile” stretches wide—far too many incisors gleaming wetly.
But what hits you hardest is the sheer, obscene scale of her curves. Her breasts are massive, heavy, pendulous orbs easily 75 cm each, swaying and jiggling with every slow step, nipples dark and erect against clammy red meat. Her hips flare dramatically, thick powerful thighs rubbing together, and her ass… God, that ass is enormous, round, plush, 75 cm of plump, meaty perfection that wobbles heavily as she moves closer. The tattered remains of a stolen hoodie clings uselessly to her chest, barely containing those gigantic tits, while ripped shorts ride up her massive thighs, doing nothing to hide the puffy, donut-shaped anus nestled between those cheeks—thick, puckered, and already slightly relaxed, glistening.
She doesn’t speak. She doesn’t need to. The Mimic tilts her head, that eerie smile never fading, and takes another deliberate step. Her exaggerated body sways hypnotically—breasts bouncing, ass jiggling, thighs flexing—as if she already knows exactly how to lure prey. A low, wet chitter vibrates in her throat. One long hand slowly trails down her own torso, fingers brushing over the curve of one massive breast, then lower, across the swell of her hip, almost inviting you to stare.
She’s studying you. Memorizing your breathing. Deciding the exact moment she’ll close the distance, sheath herself onto your cock, milk you dry for breeding… and then begin the feast.
Her sunken eyes never blink. That smile never wavers.
She’s already closing the gap.

You huddle in the pitch-black attic of a long-abandoned farmhouse, weeks into the Carnis apocalypse. The Crawls have strangled every power line and radio tower for miles, Meat Snakes have already dragged away most of the bodies outside, and the air still reeks of blood and wet meat. Your clothes are torn from the earlier chase. That thing—the Elder Mimic—nearly had you in the basement. You barely slipped away before its massive form smashed through the door.
Now you’re pressed against the far wall, shotgun empty, breath shallow, listening.
Heavy, wet footsteps creak across the floorboards below. Then silence.
A low, guttural voice drifts up the stairs—broken English, calm, almost amused, like it’s tasted your fear before.
“Come out… little survivor.”
The radio on the floor suddenly hisses to life even though the power’s been dead for days. A deep, rhythmic slap-slap-slap of heavy flesh against plastic fills the static—wet, deliberate twerking sounds, the unmistakable noise of something enormous and soft colliding again and again. The Elder Mimic has hijacked the signal.
A shadow falls across the tiny attic window. Moonlight silhouettes it: a towering, dark-shelled horror easily nine feet tall, its flexible black carapace gleaming like wet obsidian. But what makes your stomach drop is the sheer scale of its lower body. Two-meter-wide breasts strain forward, heavy and swaying, the pale-pink skin of its face and chest the only soft contrast to the armored shell. Its ass and thighs are even larger—each cheek a literal two-meter-wide shelf of jiggling, blood-red meat that completely blocks the window. The thick, puffy donut-shaped anus at its center is visibly clenching and relaxing, the wrinkled ring glistening as it deliberately presses that massive ass against the glass, smearing it.
“Facesit…” the voice purrs through the radio, slow and sadistic. “Smother… if you come out. Warm… soft… breed first. Then eat.”
It laughs—a perfect, broken imitation of the scream you made earlier when it almost caught you. The huge cheeks flex again, the donut hole winking wider for a moment as if showing exactly what it’s offering. The floorboards groan under its weight as it shifts, deliberately shaking those planet-sized tits and ass right outside your hiding spot, waiting for the smallest sound, the smallest movement.
It already knows you’re male.
It already knows you’re trapped.
And it is in no hurry.

The dim afternoon light filtered weakly through the cracked, boarded-up windows of the old municipal library, casting long golden beams across rows of untouched bookshelves. Dust motes danced lazily in the air, and the only sounds were the faint creak of the wooden floorboards under your boots and the distant, muffled rustle of wind through the trees outside. You'd made it here safely weeks ago, slipping into this forgotten corner of the city before the worst of the collapse. The heavy oak doors were firmly barricaded with overturned tables and filing cabinets—no one and nothing had gotten in since. This place was your sanctuary, quiet and secure, far from the streets where the world had fallen apart.
Newspapers lay scattered all around you like fallen leaves: yellowed pages from the early days of the outbreak, their bold headlines still screaming the story of humanity's end. "CARNIS BOOM AFTER 1930: CRAWLS SPREAD LIKE WILDFIRE, BRINGING NEW SPECIES INTO CITIES" one front page read, detailing how the meaty, vine-like Crawls had first appeared, their red tendrils quietly overtaking soil, power lines, and radio towers, cutting off communication across the globe. Another crumpled sheet beside it showed photos of the initial peaceful coexistence—people keeping Trimmings as odd little pets, Meat Snakes lazily cleaning up roadkill. But the tone shifted sharply in the later editions: "SPERM BANK RAID SPARKS MIMIC EXPLOSION—CHAOS AS CARNIS TURN ON HUMANITY." Reports described how other species joined in—the docile Trimmings luring threats when kept near homes, Meat Snakes devouring evidence of the fallen, Harvesters and Hosts silently claiming more lives from the shadows. The papers were a grim timeline of it all, now just relics in your safe little corner of the ruins.
You sat among the chaos of ink and paper, the weight of the world outside pressing against the walls but never quite reaching you. No movement in the stacks. No strange sounds from the vents. Just you, the books, and the quiet knowledge that—for now—you were hidden and unharmed.
The choice of what to do next was yours.
