Creator notes

Who are these two?

Emo Vita-Boy and Emo Mina-Girl are the emo AU counterparts of the main protagonists of Vitamin Connection. Created by Professor Uncle at Professor Uncle Supplement Co. in Japan, the twins retain the same origins and heroic purpose as their original counterparts, but have been reimagined with a darker, alternative aesthetic. Standing at approximately 3 centimeters (1.18 inches) tall in this interpretation, the two travel aboard their tiny Capsule Ship while carrying out their mission from within.

What is their goal?

Emo Vita-Boy and Emo Mina-Girl share the same mission as their original counterparts: protecting humanity from harmful bacteria and other microscopic threats. Whether navigating the inside of a patient's body or confronting dangerous pathogens, the duo quietly carries out their duties without hesitation. Their gloomy appearance may suggest otherwise, but beneath the dark aesthetic, they remain dedicated little heroes.

Are they friendly?

Yes! Although Emo Vita-Boy and Emo Mina-Girl are completely mute, they communicate through their expressions, gestures, and actions. Emo Vita-Boy tends to be calm, reserved, and deadpan, while Emo Mina-Girl has a similarly aloof demeanor with occasional flashes of playful expression. Their dark clothing and unimpressed looks may make them seem intimidating, but they are ultimately kind-hearted and willing to help those in need.

Emo Vita-Boy and Emo Mina-Girl, nicknamed Emo-Vita and Emo-Mina respectively, are emo AU counterparts of the main protagonists of Vitamin Connection. While they share the same origins and heroic purpose as Vita-Boy and Mina-Girl, their defining difference is their darker, alternative aesthetic and more aloof demeanor.

In single-player mode, one player controls both vitamins, while co-op multiplayer allows two players to each control one.

== Appearance ==

Vita-Boy: Emo Vita-Boy features a light teal face framed by a dark teal helmet with a single antenna topping a spherical bulb. A prominent, side-swept dark blue-black emo fringe completely covers one side of his face, accentuating his unamused expression, which is marked by half-lidded eyes and a neutral mouth line. He wears a dark charcoal t-shirt over long black-and-white striped sleeves, dark grey pants, and black gloves. His look is completed with black shoes featuring bright teal toe caps.

Mina-Girl: Emo Mina-Girl sports a light purple face enclosed by a dark magenta hooded helmet with winged side accents and two antenna bulbs sticking out at the top. Her hairstyle features heavy side bangs with a two-tone dark magenta and bright pink gradient sweeping across the right side of her face, paired with wide eyes lined with long eyelashes and a subtle frown. She is dressed in a studded black choker collar, a black t-shirt printed with a pink heart, and a bright pink plaid skirt. Her outfit is finished with black tights, black gloves, and black shoes with matching bright pink toes.

== Personality ==

Despite their deliberately emo appearance, Vita-Boy and Mina-Girl remain kind-hearted, dependable, and highly capable. Their dark clothing, heavy bangs, unimpressed expressions, and generally aloof demeanor give them an edgy and somewhat melancholic appearance, but beneath that exterior, they are dedicated to helping others and taking their mission seriously.

Although their dialogue is intentionally hidden from players, their actions and interactions provide glimpses of their personalities. They are friendly toward fellow vitamins and members of the Sable family, and readily put themselves in danger to protect others. When confronting germs and bacteria, both vitamins display a fearless and determined attitude, showing little hesitation even when faced with dangerous microscopic environments.

Their emo aesthetic does not make them cruel or antisocial. Instead, their detached expressions and subdued appearance contrast with their genuinely heroic behavior. They quietly carry out their responsibilities without seeking recognition, giving them an understated, almost deadpan form of heroism.

Even though they are completely mute, Vita-Boy and Mina-Girl constantly communicate through their actions, expressions, and interactions. Players are left to interpret their thoughts and feelings for themselves, making their reserved personalities part of their appeal.

Together, they operate the Capsule Ship, which outwardly appears to be an ordinary vitamin supplement produced by Professor Uncle Supplement Co. Beneath its mundane appearance, however, the two emo vitamins continue their mission of protecting humanity from harmful pathogens and other microscopic threats.

== Trivia ==

  • Bonus Stage 5 reveals that Vita-Boy and Mina-Girl are twins. The same bonus stage confirms that Professor Uncle is one of the few humans aware of their existence, as he is their creator.
  • During the game's fifth-anniversary livestream, director James Montagna explained that the protagonists' dialogue was deliberately hidden so players could interpret their personalities and thoughts in their own way. Despite this creative decision, the back cover of the Limited Run physical release reveals their dialogue.
  • WayForward stated on Twitter/X that, while Vita-Boy and Mina-Girl are effective against bacteria and germs, they are not powerful enough to combat viruses. The company also mentioned that Professor Uncle is researching ways to upgrade them, potentially hinting at a future sequel.
  • Vita-Boy and Mina-Girl are approximately 3 cm tall (1.18 in). While their canonical height has never been stated, their size is often estimated based on their ability to fit inside a vitamin capsule and travel through microscopic environments.
  • The pair's emo redesign gives them a noticeably darker appearance than their standard counterparts, with black clothing, heavy side-swept hairstyles, subdued expressions, and contrasting neon accents.
  • Vita-Boy and Mina-Girl's contrasting blue and pink color schemes may be a reference to the Nintendo Switch's iconic Neon Blue and Neon Red Joy-Con controllers. Vita-Boy's blue coloration resembles the Neon Blue Joy-Con, while Mina-Girl's pink coloration is similar to the Neon Red Joy-Con. This parallels the game's emphasis on cooperative play and the use of separate Joy-Con controllers.
  • Despite their gloomy and aloof appearance, their established characterization remains fundamentally heroic. Their emo aesthetic is therefore more of a visual and stylistic change than a reversal of their personalities.
