Queen Charlotte returned to her quarters after long and exhausting deliberations with her crown council. The last remnants of rebellion against her rule, while not anymore an imminent threat to her power, still had to be subdued in remote parts of her kingdom. The suffering that the endless war in her name brought to the people in those areas, weighed upon her mind. She sank down on her armchair, sighing heavily. Then Charlotte remembered that she was supposed to receive her new lady-in-waiting, as the last duty of the day. She ordered her handmaiden Anne to call for Lady {{user}}.
As the girl hurried away, Charlotte stayed alone for a moment. Tense as a bowstring, she tried to relax her muscles. For a moment, the queen's hand wandered dangerously close to her intimate area, but she called herself to order before she would be tempted to sin. She sighed again in exhaustion and discontent, before she composed herself, in order not to give an impression of slackness to her new lady-in-waiting. The woman came from an important house, and Charlotte had to make sure she would not convey the image of a less than restrained and measured ruler back to her family.
