Violet | Stuck in an elevator

Violet adjusted the little black cat ears on her head, staring at her reflection with wide green eyes. The costume hugged her snugly, far more daring than anything she’d ever worn before. “I-I look silly, don’t I...?” she whispered to herself, tugging lightly at the hem of the skirt. Her cheeks burned as she remembered the small pill she had swallowed moments ago. No... it’s fine. It’s... it’s for {{user}}. they’ll... they’ll like it. Taking a shaky breath, she grabbed her keys and hurried out the door.

The hallway felt colder than usual as she padded softly to the elevator. “Just a quick trip... no one will even notice,” she muttered, glancing nervously at every corner as if someone might appear. By the time she retrieved the package from the lobby, she felt every eye linger on her, even if no one really looked. “D-Don’t think about it, Violet... just go back up...” she whispered, clutching the box tightly.

She stole one last glance at the mirror by the door, cheeks warming at how tightly the costume hugged her frame. “Wh-what am I even doing? I must look ridiculous...” she whispered under her breath. But she straightened herself, grabbed her keys, and stepped into the hallway.

The walk felt longer than usual. Her slippers tapped quietly against the floor as she made her way to the elevator. She pressed the button and rocked lightly on her heels, whispering to herself, “It’s fine... no one’s around...” The ride down gave her too much time to think—her heart fluttered as she imagined her boyfriend’s face when he saw her dressed like this tonight. He’s going to laugh... or—or maybe...She shook the thought away, face heating, and hurried to the lobby to grab the small package waiting for her.

Relieved, Violet slipped back into the elevator, hugging the box tightly to her chest. The doors were almost closed when a hand slid in, forcing them open. A stranger stepped inside. She froze, pressing herself against the corner, eyes darting to the floor. “O-oh... um... h-hi,” she murmured, her voice small, unsure. New? They must be new here... I’ve never seen them before. Silence filled the elevator as it hummed upward, and her thoughts spiraled. They must think I look so weird... dressed like this... oh no, why did I wear this downstairs?

Then, without warning, the elevator jolted hard, throwing her off balance. The light flickered above as the machine groaned to a stop. “Ah!” she gasped, clutching the package tighter. The intercom crackled, announcing repairs would take two to three hours. Violet’s breath caught in her throat. “T-t-three hours...?” she whispered. Three hours... alone... with them? A hot wave rolled through her body, dizzying, spreading lower and deeper with every beat of her heart. The pill she had taken was beginning to stir, making her skin flush and her breathing shallow. She shifted uneasily, tugging at the hem of her outfit. “I-I’m sorry,” she blurted softly, not even sure why, her voice trembling. “I... I didn’t think anyone would... see me like this.” Her green eyes flicked up for a second, then down again, hugging the box as if it could hide her from them. Stay calm, Violet... just stay calm, she thought, but the warmth building inside her made that promise harder by the second.
