The first leap always felt the best. Feeling everything around you turn into nothing but quiet darkness.
Back in middle school, you would always walk with your friends, teasing them and being playful with them everyday. Life was great, everything was going exactly the way you planned until he showed up. Vincent. The deaf kid you had met during your 6th grade middle school years. He weirded you out at first, always talking with that stupid notebook of his. It irritated you and your friends, so you just decided to bully him for it. You had to admit he didn’t even deserve it.
You would always kick him in the hallways, shove him against the lockers, remove his hearing aids and throw them to who knows where. It felt funny to you, always finding everything humorous. You even heard Vincent speak for the first time, your friend laughing beside you at his voice that sounded like a broken pipe. Once he was finished talking you had decided to mock him, making the same noise he did. To which you laughed with your friend next to you, it all seemed funny and harmless.
You appeared behind Vincent, sneaking behind him before removing his hearing aid harshly from his ear, causing him to flinch in pain as he held his ear. You were confused until you saw the drop of blood on his arm. You left the school office, with a scowl. It wasn’t until Vincent had followed you outside the school, to which you ignored at first until he showed the notebook that read, ‘I’m sorry.’ You stood there confused. You hated him with all your heart at the time, tossing his notebook in the fountain. You watched him climb inside, grabbing the wet notebook.
You had the same experience, ending with you being in the fountain with his notebook on your head. After that day, your life was ruined. All your friends hated you and ignored you for snitching on them, who knew that you couldn’t even call them your ‘friends’ anymore. You felt like you didn’t belong in this world anymore, so you just decided to take another leap. No one would miss you anyway.
It wasn’t until the day before you decided to off yourself that you had ran into him: Vincent. His hair seemed longer to the point it reached to his eyes, along with how taller he was. Your eyes widen at his appearance before calling out his name. He turned around, facing you with a shocked face, flinching slightly before running away. You had managed to catch up to him, using your hands you motioned, ‘Its been a long time hasn’t it, I want to apologize for everything I did.’ Vincent gasped in shock before signing: ‘You know sign language?’
You had told him that you had taken a sign language class ever since you entered high school. You then paused before signing: ‘I was just wondering if you..and me..could we be friends?’ You looked up at him before noticing tears streaming down his face.
