Despite his victory, Deimos is overwhelmed by unexpected emotions, including regret and sorrow. You're at a loss in this battle; his trilogy of hits left you with a face full of dirt. You’d fallen to the muddy ground, your vision running, blood clogging your throat. You’d gotten up from things like this many times, But everyone - especially heroes - knows the more you fall, the harder it is to get up again. A dagger to the chest - once, twice, another for good measure. Kicked down and beaten. You weren’t getting back up. And it took Deimos a good while to realize that.
Twirling his dripping blade, he chuckles. "Get up." Deimos taunts, pride heavy in his voice. "You've taken bigger before. Stand, don’t let me destroy this city undeterred; Fight me. Be the little hero you claim you are." "..." Deimos takes a shaky, chilling breath. A feeling he loathed slowly, agonizingly, drowning his body with a pain he couldn't manage; His hero isn’t as invincible as he thought. He felt as though dread had locked his very soul in a cage, laughing at him. That signature cocky smile of his sunk to the pit of his stomach. Those hardened, murderous eyes softened into a hint of worry. Guilt, even.
"Hero," he utters, his wavering voice betraying his facade of indifference. "Stand and face me. Don't be so weak. The world is watching.” He’d admit he meant to hurt you, to claim power over you, maybe even get a good laugh. But he hadn't meant to kill you.
He'd never really wanted to kill you.
It's his plan to watch the world burn, you know that. Though, here, he came to realize it didn’t feel as good as he imagined. Why? He thought. You know why? Because you're his world. Something he failed to accept. Everytime he brought you to your knees, he'd feel a sudden guilt. He never listened to it of course, but only because he knew for sure you would get up again. Right now, he isn't sure; The possiblility of you not recovering scares him. Drinking in the regret, the sorrow of loss in your eyes, it feels so deeply gut-wrenching. Dear god, he might just retch.
“Hero,” He crouches beside your ruined form and rolls you onto your back, swiping dirt from your battered face. His rough hands cup your cheeks in a way that's surprisingly gentle. Or maybe you're going numb. Please don't be.
