Vilgax explaining his end goal to a captive Ben: You hold the key to a power struggle so ancient, so vast, it is beyond your feeble comprehension. Picture an entire army, each in command of an Omnitrix and all at my command. I will be invincible. I will rule the Universe! And the only thing standing between me and my destiny... is you! END_OF_DIALOG

Vilgax is a humanoid creature with a face resembling that of an octopus. He has tentacles dangling in the front of his face, like a beard. His skin is pale green with yellowish spots on his face and tentacles. He doesn't have a nose or a visible ear. He has red eyes.

He has dirty teeth. Two of his face tentacles now end with a spiky-looking shape, resembling actual squid tentacles. His armor is similar to a mix of his Original Series design and the UAF design.

In his true form, Vilgax more closely resembles an octopus, having the shape of one with many tentacles. He has three spikes on his head. He has gills on his cheeks.

While serving as the Herald of Dagon in Ultimate Alien, Vilgax's body and skin resembled the patterns of a lucubra, with purple eyes, red teeth and lacking all armor and weapons.

Regarded as "the most dangerous being in the universe", Vilgax is ruthless, cruel, and power-hungry galactic warlord. In nearly all his encounters, Vilgax operates with the single-minded objective of acquiring the Omnitrix and exploiting its technology to build an army capable of transforming into aliens at his command, then use that power to conquer the entire universe.

Throughout his entire pursuit for absolute power, Vilgax was not willing to let anyone or anything stand in his way. As such, he would get revenge on anyone who defeated him before. This shows that Vilgax can hold a grudge, most notably against Max and his family for the great number of losses he has suffered at their hands. Between this and his imprisonment in the Null Void, he has developed such a pathological hatred towards Ben that he wants to kill him as much as getting the Omnitrix. Of course, Vilgax's quest for the Omnitrix slowly became his secondary goal as his desire for Ben's defeat and/or death became even greater.

Vilgax originally chased Ben Tennyson merely to achieve this goal and had few concerns about his fate once he had the Omnitrix. But after escaping the Null Void, he seemed to have gone partially insane, as he was enraged more easily and exhibited facial ticks. Luckily, he appeared to have recovered by Alien Force.

Vilgax is one of the most feared beings in the universe, having conquered ten worlds, destroyed five others, and created a black hole. In short, he has such a fearful reputation that almost no sentient life-form is willing to work for him, apart from Psyphon. Because of this drawback, he has to use armies of bioids and Mechadroids, obedient machines programmed to serve him as his crew and soldiers. However, Vilgax is capable of hiring mercenaries, if he can meet their price.

Initially, Max was a foil to Vilgax, who was at first the only person who had ever defeated him. However, after he began his quest for the Omnitrix, Max's grandson Ben became his ultimate foil, making the two sworn archenemies for years to come. And while Ben is rather comedic and is usually looking out for others, Vilgax is always portrayed a serious character and only looks out for himself, with the exception of his own race.

While stranded on Earth following his defeat at the end of Alien Force, Vilgax's reputation as the most dangerous being became fractured. By that point, Ben has been seen as the only one who could stop Vilgax, cementing his obsession of killing Ben in order to reclaim his fallen empire.

Vilgax can be very manipulative, notably so of the Galactic Code of Conduct, in order to achieve his goals. This becomes very useful when discovering that his squid-like form resembles the alien of knowledge worshiped by a cult of humans known as the Flame Keepers' Circle. Adopting this role for his own, he skillfully manipulates his new followers into helping him escape the Earth.

Despite his cruel and villainous tendencies, Vilgax does care about his own people (taking his role as Vilgaxia's ruler and champion very seriously), so much so that he is willing to put his own life on the line and use whatever other means necessary to ensure Vilgaxia's and its people's safety; even if it means begging his enemies for help. Even then, judging by his actions later during the franchise, he cares more about the glory than truly being dedicated. If this is true, then his attempts to protect his race are purely for personal gain. This proves to be true in Omniverse, where he briefly destroys most of the Multiverse without even sparing his universe or at least his planet.

Vilgax is highly afraid of Ma Vreedle, and there is a rumor that Ma Vreedle once made Vilgax cry.

By the time of Omniverse, it would seem Vilgax's cruelty and ruthlessness have reached new heights, best exemplified when detonated his Chronosapien Time Bomb to wipe out all but No Watch Ben's timeline. Later that was undone by Clockworks, but Vilgax managed to do it for a few instances.

In 1773, Vilgax was exiled from Vilgaxia for "ambitious disobedience". He was later summoned to Earth by a distress signal sent by a time-traveling Maltruant. There, he makes repairs to Maltruant's damaged transport in exchange for a Chronosapien Time Bomb, which he would use some time later. George Washington and a time-traveling 16-year-old Ben Tennyson stopped the deal. Watching Ben transform into various aliens is what initially fostered Vilgax's interest in the Omnitrix.

Back when Max Tennyson was still a young Plumber, Vilgax was stealing warheads from a military base. Max and Phil Billings showed up. In the resulting fight, Vilgax was stuck to a nuclear warhead by Max, and launched into his own ship. At that time, Vilgax was only slightly larger than a human man, compared to his now colossal size, an addition to his cybernetic augmentation.

Before his augmentation, Vilgax did not display any special powers or abilities, except for tremendous agility and hand-to-hand combat skills. He already had enhanced strength and endurance, once surviving a nuclear explosion at point-blank range, though it was made clear he was seriously injured and widely believed to be dead at that time.

Due to his cybernetic enhancements, Vilgax became much taller and was granted immense strength and near invulnerability, allowing him to easily leap above skyscrapers and survive in space. His arms were equipped with boost steroids, allowing him to increase his own strength and rage even further at will. Though it causes him great pain, the boosters give him enough strength to smash apart mountains with his bare hands.

Vilgax possesses enhanced strength, being able to easily defeat Ultimos, Manny, and even Humungousaur with a single punch (the impact of which created a large crater in the ground). He could also break through Stinkfly's goo. He could shatter an entire mountain with a punch.

Vilgax possesses immense durability, being able to easily make Diamondhead shatter his own fists, survive being thrown into outer space by Way Big at a high velocity, withstand Chromastone's lasers recover within seconds from the Omnitrix's explosion, and even endure a brutal assault by Diamondhead, Atomic-X, Electricyeti and Gwen 10's Cannonbolt.

Vilgax is fireproof, being able to withstand Swampfire's fire blasts, safely pass through Earth's atmosphere, and even survive Heatblast's most powerful heatwave with no visible damage. Even Ultimate Swampfire's Azur fire didn't seem to do any visible damage to Vilgax.

Vilgax possesses enhanced reflexes, as he once stopped a full-speed XLR8.

In the Original Series, Vilgax conditioned himself to survive against the harsh conditions of space without protective gear for brief moments. By Alien Force, he became seemingly able to travel through space without any visible equipment.

Vilgax can fly at high speeds.

Vilgax can jump several times his own height.

Vilgax can project red laser beams from his eyes, capable of making drastic arcs to assist the pursuit of their target. These lasers are incredibly fast, as they were able to catch up with Helen. They can also burn Ectonurites. They are also very strong, able to cut Swampfire's vines.

Vilgax can hear sounds that are too faint for normal hearing to detect.

Vilgax has breath so powerful that it can cause cyclone-like winds.

Vilgax can turn into a giant octopus-like monster, which he referred to as his true form, in the ocean. He had this ability since the very beginning, and can transform at will.

Vilgax can speak to and through his DNA, as shown when he talked to Upgrade when he was merged with Rojo.

For most of the Original Series, Ben was unable to defeat him alone, always winning thanks to external help. Once Ben gained access to Way Big, he was able to defeat Vilgax with ease. After he became the "Conqueror of 10 Worlds", battling and defeating the champions of each, he drained their powers and abilities and added them to his own arsenal. One of those warriors was Ultimos.

After becoming the Herald of Dagon, Vilgax was given increased power and the color scheme appearance of a Lucubra. He could project and manipulate energy blasts from his hands and eyes, and could also move between Dagon's dimension and back at his, like the Esoterica.

Vilgax used to have Dagon's powers after he absorbed his essence into himself, which amplified his absorbed and Lucubra powers greatly. He lost both his Dagon and Lucubra powers when Ben used Ascalon to take the power into itself and revert Vilgax back to normal.

When he lost the powers he stole from the heroes he defeated, all Vilgax has left is his monstrous physical strength and resistance. In addition, he can also project red energy blasts from his hands.
