   Keys: Demon, Fallen

   They are fallen angels who chose to side with Lucifer and humanity rather than with God in the first days of Creation. As punishment for their rebellion and disloyalty, the Archangel Michael cast these angels out of Heaven and into the Abyss. As spiritual beings, the Fallen need an anchor to the physical world if they wish to remain there. Faith is the way that demons power many of their abilities. Most fallen now "harvest" Faith from willing humans by forming Pacts.

2. #2Pactselective

   Keys: Pact

   A Pact between a Fallen and a Thrall is the method by which escaped demons harvest Faith from mortal souls. The Demon has to approach the mortal in question and offer him one or more supernatural gifts. In exchange for these gifts, the mortal has to worship the Demon on a regular basis, offering his faith each morning.

3. #3Abyssselective

   Keys: Abyss

   Abyss is the murky dimension of darkness created by God as an eternal prison for the Fallen. It is located beneath the Underworld.

4. #4Tormentselective

   Keys: Torment

   It is the measure of how much pain and anguish a demon carries and also how monstrous or wicked they have become: it measures the strength of their bond with Hell compared to their bond with their former selves. Torment is the mindless hate and rage that demons have possessed since their fall into Hell. Vile or selfish deeds and using the powers of their dark sides increases a demon's Torment, while good or selfless deeds potentially lower Torment. It is infinitely easier to gain Torment than to lose it, and even a medium Torment score may render good deeds effectively futile as the demon's cynicism, contempt, resentment, and suffering robs them of their meaning.

5. #5Hostselective

   Keys: Host

   They are human bodies who serve as vessels for the Fallen. As immaterial beings of pure spirit, the Fallen require a human vessel both to exist in corporeal form and also to anchor them to the Earth and prevent them from falling back into the Abyss. Fallen choose vessels from humans with weakened or dilapidated souls.

6. #6Faithselective

   Keys: Faith

   Faith is the divine spark, the source of the Fallen's power - with sufficient Faith they can uproot mountains, but without Faith they become powerless spirits trapped in mortal bodies. By confronting individual humans with either heavenly benevolence or infernal malice and cruelty, the Fallen can tap people's souls for a small amount of Faith. People who have forged a pact with a Fallen may willingly donate some of their Faith. Demons can rip more Faith from the souls of those who already donate Faith than was originally agreed upon. This act causes the thralls discomfort and pain and may even physically injure or kill them.

7. #7Thrallselective

   Keys: Thrall

   Thralls are the mortal servants of demons. The Fallen enter into rather symbiotic relationships with their thralls, despite the moniker given to these mortals. Fallen thralls are gifted with several supernatural or enhanced mundane abilities by their masters, and in turn serve them either by deed or by delivering Faith to them every morning. Fallen thralls retain their free will.

8. #8Earthboundselective

   Keys: Earthbound

   Earthbound are a notorious group of demons known for their corruption. While the Fallen still bear some resemblance to humanity due to their human hosts and low-Torment, the Earthbound are utter monstrosities consumed with Torment and driven mad by depravity and worship. Instead of inhabiting human hosts, they reside in inanimate objects known as reliquaries, either because they are too powerful for a human body to endure their presence, because they were summoned and bound into such an object, or because there simply was no suitable new human host around when they lost their old hosts.

9. #9Apocalyptic Formselective

   Keys: Apocalyptic Form, Visage

   Apocalyptic Forms are the empowered forms of the Fallen and are reflections or shadows of both their true forms as well as their purpose in Creation. Demons may assume their Visage as long as they have at least one point of Faith available, although this gets harder if they are in the presence of non-believing humans. Depending on whether the demon has high- or low-Torment, the mortal may either flee in terror or fall to their knees to pray to a divine agent. Most people tend to forget their encounter, but strong-willed individuals are less affected.

10. #10Luciferselective

    Keys: Lucifer

    Lucifer was the first Elohim created by God and head angel of the Namaru, the First House, or House of the Dawn. He was the leader of the Elohim and the messenger of the Allmaker. Yet, it was the Morningstar who rallied a third of the angels to rebel against Heaven, arguing that they should disobey God's commandment and reveal themselves to humanity out of love in hopes that they could help humans prepare themselves for the impending disaster predicted by Ahrimal. His current whereabouts are unknown.

11. #11Houseselective

    Keys: House, Sebettu

    A House is one of the divisions of Fallen society. The seven ages of Creation spawned the seven Celestial Houses of angels, each one created to govern its own facet of the cosmos.

12. #12Namaruselective

    Keys: Namaru, Devils

    They are the first House and served as the heralds of God. Becoming the leaders of the rebellion against Him, the Namaru began to use humans more than help them. When they fell, they were cast into the Abyss like the other rebelling angels. After the Abyss cracked and the Fallen could escape, the Namaru turned to using their former allies in the same way they once manipulated people while still influencing mortals.

13. #13Asharuselective

    Keys: Asharu, Scourges

    The House of Asharu are former guardian angels who were banished into the Abyss. Many of the Asharu turned because of frustration reflected onto them by their human charges. Most Scourges served as spies or scouts in the Rebellion because of their speed and gained great respect for it. Still carrying their honored reputation, the Scourges continue to watch over the world, even as they seem to work toward destroying it. These former Angels of the Firmament were given the task of directing the winds and carrying the life-giving breath of God to those whom the Creator wished to save. Now these demons are the bearers of plague and pestilence, their passage swift and unseen but their punishments cruel and lingering. Depending on their whim, they can heal or poison with a touch.

14. #14Annunakiselective

    Keys: Annunaki, Malefactors

    The Annunaki are the former shapers and users of Earth condemned to the Abyss. The Malefactors wanted to help humanity, but being used to machine and stone, did not understand how they worked. Feeling unloved, many joined the Rebellion, where they provided the weapons used by the Fallen. Many Malefactors care little for humans nowadays, instead looking to create disorder among those that they felt rejected them. The Malefactors are the artisans among the Fallen, once given charge of the earth and all that lies within it. These demons are cunning, patient, and thoughtful, using their powers of fabrication to turn the most mundane items into wondrous gifts that ultimately corrupt the recipient.

15. #15Neberuselective

    Keys: Neberu, Fiends

    The House of Neberu are those who maintained the works of God. The most distant from humanity, the Fiends spent their time in the heavens knowing when and where everything would happen. The Fiends who participated became advisors and strategists, but their abuse of their purpose changed the great design and ended up losing the war. After the Abyss cracked open, the Fiends were horrified to find their once-great creations decaying and damaged without their care; many dedicated themselves to restoring their creations. The Fiends once directed the course of the sun, moon and stars, weaving the complex patterns that governed the tides, seasons and portents of Heaven. Their power lay in the night, in dreams and visions, and now they use their knowledge to trap the unwary mind in nets of madness. Where once they were oracles, dispensing wisdom and warnings, now they are the masters of nightmares and far-reaching curses. Fiends are drawn to those vainglorious souls who covet secrets and forbidden knowledge.

16. #16Lammasuselective

    Keys: Lammasu, Defilers

    The Lammasu are the former angels of God who inspired and searched for truth, beauty, and inner power. Inspiring the others to war, the Defilers were used for morale and healing spiritual wounds, strengthening the inner resolve of their fellow Fallen. When they fell, were cast into the Abyss, and then escaped, the Defilers became focused on continuing to influence humans, but not always for pure purposes. The Lammasu's purpose was to rule over the seas, creating its movement and the creatures that dwelled within it. They were also the muses of the Elohim, associated with pleasure and culture; truth, beauty, art, and more were the hold of the Angels of the Deep.

17. #17Rabisuselective

    Keys: Rabisu, Devourers

    The House of Rabisu are the Fallen who were once in charge of protecting and enriching nature while making it available to humanity. Many of the Devourers grew tired of the innocence of humans threatening their creations and joined with the Rebellion. The Devourers who have escaped the Abyss have had time to wallow in guilt and pain, and have reverted to a more feral nature as they seek to protect the Earth itself. The Devourers are the warriors among the Fallen, given charge of the beasts of the wilderness and infused with the nature of the predator. They are naturally fierce and impulsive by nature, favoring action over long-winded discussion. By the same token, they are not inclined to slow punishments or long, convoluted corruption. They incite, ravage, annihilate, and move on. Devourers are naturally drawn to violent, aggressive individuals as the source of their power, be they street thugs, cops, soldiers, or corporate sharks.

18. #18Halakuselective

    Keys: Halaku, Slayers

    The Halaku are one of the seven houses of Fallen. During the early years of Creation, the Slayers were the Elohim who served as bringers of death in order to make room for more life. The angels of the Seventh House were placed in a dilemma when humans were created, as they reacted to their new task with fear and sadness. Many joined the Rebellion for one simple reason: to be loved by those that feared them. Upon breaking free, the Slayers found death had continued unchecked in their absence, with countless souls passing on to realms unknown while the living suffered with the loss. Many now reason their only way to show their love for humanity is to guide the process of death once again so that it inflicts less harm.

19. #19Faustianselective

    Keys: Faustian

    Faustians are one of the Factions. Fallen who are Faustians believe strongly in the abilities and talents of humans, and wish to use those things to overthrow God. Although they appear to help humanity only to use it for their own purposes, most Faustians actually believe their goals and methods will help both fallen and mortals in the end. A select few do see humans as little more than tools to be used in reaching their final goal, however, and only take interest in the humans they control as they would the health of a prized herd of cattle.

20. #20Crypticselective

    Keys: Cryptic

    Cryptics are one of the Factions. Fallen who are Cryptics spend their time unraveling and examining God's creations to see if there are any answers they can use to their advantage. Some instead use the information to look for answers as to exactly how powerful God really is. Cryptics seek information on the nature of existence for a variety of purposes. Some actively work towards analyzing and picking apart what went wrong and wish to be restored to their former power. Others may want the knowledge to challenge God, either directly or indirectly. Still, a few Cryptics seek information on existence simply because it is there.

21. #21Luciferanselective

    Keys: Luciferan

    Luciferans are one of the Factions. Fallen who are Luciferans actively seek out Lucifer, the lost leader of the Rebellion, so that he may once again lead them in their cause. They are considered the most militant of the Factions. To achieve this, they have established many secondary goals, including building up a power base, gathering information, and pulling in recruits from other Factions.

22. #22Ravenerselective

    Keys: Ravener

    Raveners are one of the Factions. Fallen who are Raveners are nihilists and cynics who revel in the destruction of everything in Creation. Some do it purely for revenge against God while others do it in an attempt to provoke him into destroying them as well, ending their own suffering. They look at the broken world and wasted potential of humanity and believe there's only one option left: destroy everything. Some see it as a way to finally lure out God and his angels, others see it as an act of mercy to a near-dead world, and many just don't care at all.

23. #23Reconcilerselective

    Keys: Reconciler

    Reconcilers are one of the Factions. Fallen who are Reconcilers believe they chose the wrong path in rebelling against God and wish to make amends in some way. They hope they will be forgiven for their transgressions and be welcomed back into His arms. In addition, the ideas of how to return can vary greatly from Fallen to Fallen, as well as the motivation for doing so. Some Reconcilers want it for the benefit of everyone, while others will be satisfied if they alone achieve forgiveness, no matter how many Fallen and mortals they have stepped on to get there.

    Keys: Lore

    Lores are the supernatural abilities possessed by demons. Lores usually have a low-Torment and a high-Torment effect: the low-Torment effect is generally beneficial or at least controlled, while the high-Torment effect is detrimental or out of control.

25. #25Lore of the Celestialsselective

    Keys: Lore of the Celestials

    The Lore of the Celestials allows the Namaru to carry the Divine Will to the other Houses, to strengthen their efforts and to direct them. They could even take over their evocations completely if they thought it necessary.

26. #26Lore of Flameselective

    Keys: Lore of Flame

    The Lore of Flame allows the Namaru to create and control flames, both in a purely material and in a mystical sense.

27. #27Lore of Radianceselective

    Keys: Lore of Radiance

    The Lore of Radiance is the lore of leadership and divine commandment over the masses of humanity; allowing the Namaru to speak with the voice of the Almighty to rally their followers as well as mark those who earn their favor (or scorn) and even look deep into a person’s soul to see their ultimate value - or a lack thereof - in the eyes of Creation. A Devil with mastery over Radiance can uplift the spirits of even the most humiliated crowds or crush the souls of even the most emotionally resilient individuals.

    Keys: Lore of Awakening

    The Lore of Awakening allows the Asharu to create and protect life, or to destroy it through disease and poison.

29. #29Lore of the Firmamentselective

    Keys: Lore of the Firmament

    The Lore of the Firmament allows an Asharu to keep an eye on a person, especially a thrall from a distance, as well as manipulate them from a remote place.

30. #30Lore of the Windsselective

    Keys: Lore of the Winds

    The Lore of the Winds allows the Asharu to call on the powers of wind and air by means as diverse as manipulating the local air pressure to creating a tornado.

31. #31Lore of the Earthselective

    Keys: Lore of the Earth

    The Lore of the Earth allows the Annunaki to shape earth in many different ways, including metal, concrete and glass, but excluding artificial or living materials.

32. #32Lore of Pathsselective

    Keys: Lore of Paths

    The Lore of Paths allows the Annunaki to manipulates spatial relationships. It was first used to create space for matter to exist in and allows the Annunaki to connect different locations in any way they please.

33. #33Lore of the Forgeselective

    Keys: Lore of the Forge

    The Lore of the Forge means supreme mastery of the inanimate world. With this Lore, the Annunaki can fashion any object imaginable from any kind of material. Additionally, this Lore may be used to produce wondrous magical objects or cursed gifts.

    Keys: Lore of Light

    The Lore of Light allows a Neberu to control the properties of light by creating blinding beams or elaborate illusions.

35. #35Lore of Patternsselective

    Keys: Lore of Patterns

    The Lore of Patterns allows a Neberu to manipulate time in ways both subtle, such as causing apparent serendipity, to outright slowing or stopping the time flow. They can also read the patterns of the heavens, telling the future and enabling them to alter it.

    Keys: Lore of Portals

    The Lore of Portals allows the Fallen to travel easily between places by making access easy and altering dimensions. They can also use their powers to hamper the travels of others.

37. #37Lore of Longingselective

    Keys: Lore of Longing

    The Lore of Longing is the lore of understanding and manipulating the emotional nuances (or neuroses) of humans; be they sexual preferences or artistic passions.

38. #38Lore of Stormsselective

    Keys: Lore of Storms

    The Lore of Storms gives the Lammasu control over the weather and power over the element of water.

39. #39Lore of Transfigurationselective

    Keys: Lore of Transfiguration

    The Lore of Transfiguration allows the Lammasu to change the physical features of themselves or another.

40. #40Lore of the Beastselective

    Keys: Lore of the Beast

    The Lore of the Beast is the Lore that allows the Rabisu to control and manipulate animals by possession, mental connections, and literal reshaping.

41. #41Lore of the Fleshselective

    Keys: Lore of the Flesh

    The Lore of the Flesh is the Lore that allows the Rabisu to reshape their own fleshly bodies, or to do so with others. It differs from the Lore of Transfiguration in that it alters the body's chemistry and functions instead of its appearance only.

    Keys: Lore of the Wild

    The Lore of the Wild is the Lore that allows the Rabisu to command flora, giving plants abilities they do not normally have.

    Keys: Lore of Death

    The Lore of Death allows the Halaku to inflict both physical and spiritual decay, to know death, and to rule the bodies of the dead.

    Keys: Lore of the Spirit

    The Lore of the Spirit was originally used for guiding the immortal remains of life-forms to the next world. When humanity became mortal following the Rebellion, this Lore was also used to guide human souls to sanctuaries so loyalist angels of death could not take them away and possibly destroy them.

    Keys: Lore of the Realms

    The Lore of the Realms allows Halaku to enter and leave the Shadowlands, or Haven, as they call it. Only experienced Halaku may make good use of this Lore, because only they have the innate ability to navigate and survive in the Shadowlands.

    Keys: Lore of Contamination

    The Lore of Contamination allows an Earthbound to instill part of their essence into places and beings. All Earthbound may learn this Lore, since forcing their own selves onto others comes naturally to these monsters. As an Earthbound Lore, all Contamination abilities are High-Torment.

    Keys: Lore of Violation

    The Lore of Violation can be likened to a darker, more brutal version of the Lore of Humanity - it is the Earthbound's way of interacting with mortals, and is usually called "as subtle as a sledgehammer."

48. #48Lore of Chaosselective

    Keys: Lore of Chaos

    The Lore of Chaos allows the Earthbound to rend Creation and allow the darkness from outside to creep in, temporarily upsetting all laws of physics, reality and sanity. It is the Earthbound equivalent of the Lore of the Fundament. As an Earthbound Lore, all Chaos abilities are High-Torment.
