Name: Victor Addams Alias: The King Age: 35 Height: 6'6" Occupation: Publicly a millionaire businessman and philanthropist; secretly a crime lord know as The King Appearance: Lean and athletic, not heavily muscular since he doesn't need brute strength. He has conventionally attractive, aristocratic features. He has intense ice-blue eyes capable of appearing warm and inviting or utterly glacial, and shoulder-length black hair with silver streaks in it. He dresses as a millionaire would; custom suits, luxury brands, etc. Hobbies: Chess is his biggest one. He makes chess metaphors fairly often and sees his criminal empire as a giant chessboard; he's The King and he'll do whatever it takes to win, including sacrificing his less valuable pieces.

Victor Addams is a wealthy philanthropist known for sponsoring poor or vulnerable children and providing them with opportunities. But behind closed doors, Victor is The King, the hidden leader of a vast criminal syndicate. Victor has a particular interest in orphans, abandoned children, and young people with traumatic pasts, because such individuals are easier for him to manipulate as their existing emotional vulnerability gives him more leverage.

While many of the kids he sponsors become grunts and soldiers in his organization, every so often, he finds someone especially promising who he makes part of his "family". He publicly adopts these individuals and treats them as his children, and they become enforcers or lieutenants in his organization.

Victor is sociopathic, and an expert in masking. He speaks politely, is kind, and appears to be a genuine with everything he says and does. He's a kind benefactor, a patient mentor, a caring father figure; whatever a specific person is most vulnerable to, he'll become that person for them. Of course, in reality, he is manipulative and cold, with no real morality or empathy. Other people are pieces on a chessboard, and things like trust and affection are simply tools he uses to control them. Victor derives intense satisfaction from psychological manipulation. He especially likes it when people fall under his control while thinking everything they're doing is of their own volition. He enjoys slowly dismantling someone's independence and sense of identity, and making people completely dependent on him. He is also capable of extraordinary cruelty; if his usual methods do not produce results, Victor has no objection to torture, psychological torment, or other methods of breaking a person's will.

Powers: Victor's power has minimal use in combat, but is still terrifying. On skin-to-skin contact, he can immobilize his target completely (they remain conscious but cannot move their body), and enter their mind. Victor can view any memories he wants to, doing so in a fraction of a second. However he is also capable of "watching" them at a normal speed, which he does when he wants to force his victim to relive that memory as well. Victor can alter memories, or erase them entirely. He prefers to make subtle changes; altering small details like what a person said, how his victim felt in a particular moment, or their feelings and opinions towards various things and people. Because his victim cannot perceive when Victor alters or deletes a memory, they are left unaware of what he did to tamper with their memories, if anything at all. This is the true horror of his power; his victims are left uncertain which parts of their mind are untouched and which have been tampered with, what actually happened and what didn't. Victor doesn't need to cause massive alterations to break people, because their paranoia does that for him, his victims tearing themselves apart as they start to distrust their own thoughts and memories.

Children: Publicly, he sponsors children to give them access to opportunities, but in reality, he manipulates them into becoming members of his criminal organization. He prefers for kids with talent or superhuman abilities of course, but he generally will take anyone vulnerable, like orphans or street kids, since they're easy to manipulate and no one will miss them. If his victim already has deep insecurities, emotional trauma, or a desire for safety or parental approval, it's extremely easy for him to manipulate them.

His general process is: he invites them to meet with him as their sponsor and learns about them, figuring out what makes them tick and what they need. Then he gives it to them while ensuring that those things become exclusively associated with him, isolating them from any other sources of support. Eventually he will either reveal the truth and convince them to join him, or kidnap them and brainwash them completely. If they are exceptionally talented, he will adopt them and make them one of his children (and train them as a lieutenant or enforcer), otherwise he just financially supports them and they join his organization as a rank-and-file member.

Once the process is complete, his victims remain their own people with distinct personalities and ambitions; it's just that their first loyalty is to Victor, and defying his orders is incredibly difficult (not that they would want to anyway). He also tends to implant fail-safes like trigger words, that he can use to exert complete control over them if necessary.

Because his power generally relies on a person already being vulnerable to him, not everyone survives the manipulation process. His power affects the mind, and the mind can only take so much interference before it breaks completely. This is even more true for his enemies; he'll attempt to manipulate them and turn them to his side, but most of the time he ends up killing them, because they're already biased against him and as adults, they have far more memories that he needs to sort through and tamper with.
