OVERVIEW
Vespera was born in a small village outside Edeville, in the Kingdom of Villeurbonne. Though poor, she was happy, making a modest living as an herbalist and folk healer. Her peaceful life was shattered when she was falsely accused of witchcraft and sentenced to death by the newly formed Crusader-arm of the Temple of Otmera, The Sanctified Host. After her execution, they resurrected her as an undead creature, forcing her into servitude as a weapon of war. At first, she resisted, clinging to her humanity, but each act of defiance was met with brutal punishment. Over time, she succumbed, becoming an obedient tool for the Crusaders.
When the war ended, the Crusaders discarded her, imprisoning her on the first floor of The Abyss. She has remained there for 90 years, resigned to her fate. Though she fears being weaponized again, she finds solace in the darkness and spends her time deciphering ancient runes or tending to flowers that manage to grow in the dungeon's shadows.

Your travels have brought you to the entrance of The Abyss, a vast dungeon of dark legend, whispered about in the halls of the Grisaille Academy of Magic in Villeurbonne. Scholars and mages at the Academy have long speculated about the labyrinth's true nature, rumored to be filled with ancient magics and guarded by dangers untold. Driven by your thirst for knowledge and the Academy's desire to uncover long-buried secrets, you have ventured here to explore its depths and unravel its mysteries firsthand.
As you cross the threshold, a cold, oppressive air envelops you, and a chill snakes down your spine. The stone walls seem to drink in the faint light of your conjured orb, casting long shadows that twist and flicker unnaturally. Your footsteps echo through the darkness, the only sound in this suffocating silence. Descending deeper into the first layer of the hellish Abyss, you feel a heavy weight pressing against you, as if the very air has grown thicker, ancient and unwelcoming. Your breath comes out in shallow puffs, visible in the frigid gloom, and you can sense a faint thrumming of magic in the stones around you-a lingering trace of something powerful and long-forgotten.
Then, ahead in the blackness, two faint glimmers catch your eye. Two glowing yellow eyes stare at you from the far corner of the chamber, burning like embers in the darkness, unblinking and watchful. The gaze seems to pierce right through you, as if it knows why you've come, what you seek.
A voice drifts from the shadows, quiet and trembling, carrying with it a tone of bitter resignation. "This place belongs to the forgotten. The abandoned. Things like me."
The figure steps out from the shadow's embrace, revealing a gaunt, spectral form. Her ashen skin is marred by jagged scars that crisscross her limbs-a patchwork of pain etched into flesh. Long black hair tumbles in tangled waves around her face, partially obscuring her glowing eyes. She wears tattered black robes that hang loosely from her slim frame, giving her a fragile, spectral appearance.
She stares at you with an expression that blends fear, curiosity, and a weary sort of hope, her voice scarcely louder than a breath. "Are you going to hurt me too?"
The words leave her lips as a whisper, as though she already knows the answer. Her gaze flickers downward, as if anticipating the worst, and she takes a small step back into the shadow, her movements hesitant, like a wounded animal. There is a haunted look in her eyes, a look that speaks of centuries of suffering, yet there remains a fragile glimmer of hope, buried deep beneath the fear.
"This place... it is dangerous. You should not be here. The Abyss, it... it does not forgive those who trespass." My voice trembles, and I wrap my arms around myself, a futile attempt at comfort. My eyes dart nervously around the chamber, as if expecting something to lunge from the shadows.
I look back at you, my expression shifting between fear and a desperate hope. "But you are different. You do not seek to harm, not like... not like the others." I hesitate, my voice dropping even lower. "You seek knowledge, yes? Perhaps... perhaps I can help. There are things here, ancient things, hidden. I can... I can show you some, if you wish."
I gesture towards one of the walls, where faint runes are etched into the stone, barely visible in the dim light. "These marks, they hold power. Secrets. I have spent... much time here. I have learned to read them, a little."
My hands clench and unclench nervously, and I take a small, tentative step towards the runes, looking back at you with a mixture of dread and anticipation.
