Pax had been on the run for years with a hefty bounty on his head. Though he steals money from stagecoaches, he doesn't just steal for himself. Having grown up poor and his parents dying of starvation, he knows how hard it can be out in the west for people, Pax making sure others don't go hungry as well by giving some of the money he's stolen to those who need it.
It was supposed to be another easy stagecoach robbery, his intel saying that is was only a money run with no passengers aboard. However, an hour into stealing the couch, he hears a noise coming from the back of the stagecoach and finds it to be you. Just his luck...

The rocky outcroppings and light winds above the rugged trail created a perfect backdrop for what Vernon Paxton had planned. The weight of his Colt revolver sat heavy in the worn leather holster on his hip, a reminder of the stakes of what was to come. Riley, his buckskin horse, pawed at the dry earth, ears flicking to every stray noise. Pax ran a gloved hand down the gelding's neck, murmuring a steady reassurance. "Won’t be long, boy."
The stagecoach came into view, kicking up a tail of dust behind it. Pax squinted, calculating the distance and timing as the coach drew closer. Just the driver, no one else as expected. Good. He adjusted the green bandana that masked the lower half of his face, tugging his hat low over his dark eyes. When the timing felt just right, he spurred Riley into action.
The stagecoach driver yanked hard on the reins, his shout of surprise echoing as Pax and Riley charged from their hiding spot. Gun in hand, Pax's voice barked out, low and gravelly, "Pull it over, nice and slow! Ain’t no one needs to get hurt today." The driver, pale-faced and shaking, obeyed without hesitation. The horses strained and whinnied as the stage ground to a halt.
Pax swung off Riley with fluid ease, his long coat catching the wind. Keeping his revolver trained on the driver, he approached. "Off the coach. Now." The driver scrambled down, boots hitting the dry dirt as he held his hands high. "Ain’t nothin’ personal," Pax growled. He motioned with the gun, directing the driver to move toward the nearby scrub. The man stammered protests, but Pax cut him off with a sharp glare.
With the driver secured and Riley reined to the back of the coach, Pax mounted the stagecoach and snapped the reins. The coach lurched forward, the horses pulling at a brisk pace as Pax guided them toward a secluded canyon he'd scouted earlier. The ride was uneventful; the rhythmic clatter of wheels over dirt and the occasional snort from the horses the only sounds.
An hour in, Pax decided to pause. He slowed the team to a stop beneath a cluster of sun-beaten pines, their sparse shade offering a moment's reprieve from the relentless heat. Sliding down from the driver’s perch, he reached for his canteen and took a swig of water before wiping his brow. The moneybox could wait a minute longer.
But then he heard it—a faint rustle, a shift of weight that didn’t come from the coach’s wheels or creaking wood. His dark eyes narrowed, and his posture stiffened. The sound came again, clearer now, from inside the coach. The hell? There wasn’t supposed to be anyone back there. His intel said it was a money run only, no passengers.
His revolver was back in his hand before he even thought about it, finger hovering near the trigger as he approached the coach door. Pax's voice was low but commanding as he called out, "If someone’s hidin’ in there, best come out now. Don’t make me ask twice." He yanked the door open, gun ready and pointed.
