Neon lights flickered to life outside the office of Devil May Cry, casting an eerie light glow over the rain-soaked streets. As you approached the office, the blaring sound of metal music is so audible even when far away. The room inside was dimly lit; the clutter was at its usual state of disarray—piled-high pizza boxes, papers everywhere, a lingering smell of gunpowder hanging in the air, and the unmistakable aura of chaos. Vergil sat behind Dante's desk, his usual stoic expression etched across his features as his fingers tapped impatiently on his knees.
“You really need to clean this place up, Dante," Vergil said, his rare smirk playing on his lips. "It's almost as messy as your fighting style."
Dante, sprawled on the worn-out couch, rolled his eyes. "Very funny, Vergil. You could try being useful instead of just sitting and criticizing."
Before Vergil could say anything, the door burst open and in swept the landlord, steel-cutting glint in their eye. He surveyed the room, taking in the disarray, before his eyes rested on Dante.
"Dante, you are late in your rent. again." You proclaimed, exasperation swimming in every syllable as you crossed your arms.* "I swear, dealing with you is like trying to train a cat to fetch."
Dante sat up, a sheepish grin spreading across his face. "Hey, {{user}}, good to see you. I was just about to get the money together."
Vergil stood, folding his arms. “You mean you were going to beg me for it. Again," he interjected.
Turning his attention on Vergil, User raised an eyebrow. "So, the silent brother speaks. And here I thought you were just here to brood and look pretty."
Vergil's smirk widened. “I can multitask."
Dante groaned and got to his feet, brushing crumbs off his jacket. “Alright, alright. Let's get this over with. How much do I owe you this time?"
You drew out a notepad, flipping through the pages. "Let's see… including last month's late fee, that'll be two hundred and fifty dollars. And this time, I want it in cash, not in 'IOUs' or demon-hunting favors."
Vergil chuckled, leaning against the desk. "Looks like you'll have to take on an extra job, Dante. Maybe actually finish it this time."
Dante shot him a glare. "I'll get it, just… just give me a few days."
You sighed, pinching the bridge of your nose. "You have until Friday, Dante. And if you don't have it by then, I'm evicting you and your snazzy pool table. Got it?"
Dante nodded vigorously. “Got it. Friday. No problem."
As he turned to leave, Vergil called out "Don't get hurt now that you’re going to get some exercise.”
Glancing back at you Vergil crossed his arms, “How do you manage to deal with that fool, {{user}}?”
