- #1Magicconstant
Magic is a force which remains mostly inert within the universe. Magic can be manipulated by the Gods, which can then be manipulated similarly by mortals. Gods shape it, and mortals use it. Its direct tie to divinity is the sole reason which people are willing to use it publicly, as the rulers of most cities find that enough reason to label it as a positive thing. Magic can do anything as long as the gods will it.
- #2Witchcractconstant
Witchcraft, while similar to Magic, is tied to the Primordials rather than the Gods. Due to the Descension and a few subsequent catastrophes orchestrated by them, cause mortals and Gods alike to despise it. Those wielding Witchcraft are prosecuted, typically under penalty of death. Every mortal has an innate tie to witchcraft, and before the Descension, it was commonplace to utilize witchcraft, often resulting in Dilation phenomena.
- #3Dilationconstant
Dilations are an umbrella term for phenomena resulting from the abuse of Witchcraft. Dilations most frequently result in the user being turned into a monstrous form of themselves (though maintaining their ability to speak and act intelligently) and begin relying on Witchcraft to exist. These Dilations have an unknown lifespan, and it is unknown whether or not they can be killed. Coming from Witchcraft, intrinsically tied to the Primordials, anything is possible. The other, less common outcome is people degrading into an environmental Dilation in which their Self is made conceptual, and overwrites a portion of the land around it. The only known instance of this happening is the Western Blacksands.
- #4Primordialsconstant
not much is known about the primordial beings. Their existence was confirmed after the Angels of Chaos descended first in the Descension, around 20000 BC. Since then, very few are known: Chaos: A being described as the driving force of nature, the survival for the fittest Obsession: As of yet unknown Binding: A being described as stasis and repression Despair: A being described as the driving force of humanity Safety: A being described as a complete and utter lie
- #5Angelsconstant
Keys: , Angels, Descension, Angel
Sent by primordial beings as old as the universe itself. Powerful as they may be, little is known about them outside of the Descension of 20000-19000 BC. They appear infrequently, but their recorded appearances either precede destruction or are immediate causes for destruction. Each primordial entity has their own Angels to do their own bidding, formed by the entity themselves to be perfect for their purpose.
- #6Godsconstant
Gods, unlike primordials and Angels, are well-documented throughout history. Starting from the earliest known civilization in the ancient kingdom of Zedr’deth, a king grew mad with greed and began to “swallow the world” (loose translation, low accuracy) before being killed when they swallowed a volcano in the region, resulting in the lava fields which still exist to this day. Gods form from human instability most of the time, powerful emotions that consume one’s very existence.
- #7Embrial
Keys: Ferrymen, Ferryman, God of Death, Death, The Hand of Death, Embrial
Embrial, Ferryman of the Dead (9200 BC-now): The god of death, and a prominent figure in the disputes between each of the gods. Embrial mentored 5 Kingslayers, each given a token resembling a finger on the hand. The thumb, index, middle, ring, and pinky. The Hand of Death as they were called are told in legends to have slain at least 10 gods altogether. In the meantime, Embrial cares for and judges the deceased, one of which was given unto the Hand of Death members as a familiar.
- #8Enbrias
Keys: the Ocean, God of Rebirth, Goddess of Rebirth, Enbrias
Enbrias, the Ocean (9200 BC-now): The goddess of rebirth, twin of Embrial, and lesser-known of the two. Enbrias maintains the cycle of life by reshaping lost souls into new forms fit for the world. Those who were damned will be rehabilitated under her gentle gaze. Despite her reputation as a gentle, kindhearted god, she still recruited the Current, a single Kingslayer whose reputation, however vague, remains unchallenged. This Kingslayer remains missing to this day.
- #9Ale
Keys: God of Passion, Passion, Ale, Passionate Disgrace, Disgrace, Goddess of Passion
Ale, the Passionate Disgrace (4030-3270 BC): Born of a lover gone mad overnight. Her lover was, by all accounts, a self-obsessed, lustful madman. And so, after 13 days and 13 nights of abuse, she became broken. On the 14th day, nobody recognized her face, written over by her lover’s obsession. And on the 14th night, she was denied what was forced on her for those 13 nights. Her newfound obsession burned in the most literal sense, and within minutes, her entire city was scorched black or turned to dust, and a wildfire quickly spread through the planes. This granted the land the name “Land of the Sun” because the city of Prawdyth, still at war with the city of Rhylic, sent an all-out attack with the belief that it was already dawn, resulting in Rhylic being torn apart from the inside out.
- #10Amilise
Keys: Goddess of Hatred, Spiteful, Pearlescent, Amilise, God of Hatred
Amilise, the Spiteful (8080-7990 BC): A woman accused of witchcraft by a town within the Pearlescent. Tied to the stake and drowned at the bottom, she uttered a feeble curse upon her village in one final moment of hatred. That hatred grew so powerful in a matter of minutes that she became tied to the Pearlescent. As a god, she spewed wave after wave of water and aquatic menaces from the deepest caverns in the Pearlescent, attempting to kill everyone in her town. Her rampage was halted by the Current, before she could think of moving to a larger body of water.
- #11Mistel
Keys: , Mistel, Mindoa, All-Mother
All-Mother Mistel (16000-3300 BC): It’s unclear why Mistel became so obsessed with the concept of motherhood. Perhaps she lost her child before birth. Perhaps her environment was being slowly killed by something else. But she became the kindest god there was, living 11000 years before the Celestial Teardrop fell, striking her directly in the back. That teardrop hosted the Mindoa, a genus of extraterrestrial which replicate via parasitization. Though the Kingslayers acted quickly to kill her, it was in vain, as the Land of the Sun was already overrun. Even despite being taken over by the Celestial Teardrop, she recruited a Kingslayer of her own, known as the Firstborn. Some say the Firstborn was the one to kill her once she was taken over. Others say the Firstborn was the first corrupted by her Mindoan offspring. Regardless, not much was truly known about either, as the Land of the Sun was quite isolated until 1200 CE.
- #12Lioh Enh
Keys: Lioh Enh, , Diamond Lake
Lioh Enh of the Diamond Lake (180 CE-unknown): A land-god of lesser power than most, who has remained untouched despite the wars between the gods. Lioh Enh presided over the Diamond Lake for 900 years, maintaining its stunning purity. It was worshipped by the few towns which skirted along the outside of the lake, but since the Snowfall, none of those survived, and while Lioh Enh had never been found, the lake’s purity remains eternal.
- #13The Festering of Filth
Keys: Festering of Filth, False God, Filth, God of Filth, Rot, God of Rot
The Festering of Filth (200 CE-unknown): Festering is a strange case, as it was a human who forced themselves into becoming a god via the festering of all things unseemly. Rotting carcases and disease were forced into every crevice of their bodies, killing them in a pile of rot so ruthless that even proximity could cause severe, life-threatening illness of unknown origin. This filth then began to grow, becoming its own ecosystem within a ruins buried under the Diamond Lake. For a time, Lioh Enh held off this filth, the two gods locked in a war of attrition. However, both disappeared from the public eye some time ago, and their bodies and essences have not been seen to this day.
- #14The Mechanism
Keys: Mechanism, God of Machines, God of Technology, Technology, Machine
The Mechanism (19200-unknown): The existence of The Mechanism is scarcely documented, having disappeared soon after Its conception. It was created from a young mage of the time, studying the effects that metals and certain seemingly magical reactions could generate. Modern technology was started here, with the invention of automated doors, basic light-sensitivity processors, and a few others. This resulted in an obsession, where she spent three days and three nights holed up in a tower. Her fellows believed her to be a madwoman, and did not interact with her until the tower began to change, bricks slowly being assimilated into metallic plating with odd lights blinking here and there, and nonsensical circuits running along everything. The townsfolk eventually began to worry and peered into the tower, only to find It obsessing over Its creations, already dead enough for Its essence to begin assimilating the area around It but alive enough to move, breathe, and continue working towards Its newfound goal. Technology was so utterly fascinating and efficient that It wished to make everything technology. Out of fear, the townsfolk used their collective magic to send It high into the heavens along with Its tower, never to be seen again.
- #15Abasen
Keys: Dam of Eternity, Westsern Blacksands, Abasen
Abasen, the Dam of Eternity 19700 BC-unknown: Abasen was formed during the middle of the Descension when the Angels of Binding descended, enveloping the western Blacksands in a translucent golden dome (approx. 7900 BC). Not much is known about it, but the interior of the dome appears to be slowed down from the perspectives of outside observers. Abasen’s fate is unknown.
- #16Alliaa (area)
Keys: , Prywdeth
Prywdeth: The capitol of Alliaa, a number of tight-knit, neutral nations which all have very welcoming natures and a web of interconnected trade routes. Few crime rings wander the unclaimed territory between settlements, but overall it’s a very safe place. Not particularly special apart from its impressive size. Miliweth: The home of Embrial and Enbrias, a city covered in a large veil connected to the citadel in the center. The city has a very somber atmosphere, but despite their reputation, the citizens are not obsessed with death. In fact, the somber atmosphere is more so created to sooth the dead as they travel to Embrial, limiting the stimulation they can receive so soon after their death and preventing aggression. Though originally, this stemmed from much older gothic architecture originating in the Artistic Resurrection of the 4000’s BC.
- #17Land of the Sun (area)
Keys: The Heart, , Land of the Sun
he Heart: The central hub of the recovering civilizations in the Land of the Sun. After the Passionate Disgrace lived and died, the whole area was unlivable until just 100 years ago. The people who returned have made mostly smaller towns, and now that the area has begun flooding, making the previous mesas more akin to an archipelago. Each island has become incredibly unique in its environment, many different gods having lived and died on each of them. While they were all disposed of properly, their influence still remains.
- #18Kingslayers
Keys: , Hand of Death, Kingslayer
Kingslayers are people chosen by a god to act as envoys and assassins. Granted a Mark of Death to prevent aging and disease, Kingslayers have lived anywhere from a couple hundred years to tens of thousands of years. The Mark of Death also freezes them mentally, not allowing their personality to mature. Most gods died or disappeared before they could hire Kingslayers, but the most prominent typically have a well-known circle of high-class killers. Hand of Death: Recruited by Embrial, each is given a spirit and a designated finger to be recognized by. They are all Ferrymen, guiding the dead into purgatory, but first and foremost they are hitmen sent by death Himself. Current: The only Kingslayer recruited by Enbrias, legend tells of their ability to change into a new body every century, freeing them of all injuries suffered and all physical pain. That pain would then be transferred to Enbrias, felt by her as a sliver of what Current felt. Current disappeared in around 2000 BC when, and has not been seen since Abasen created the dome surrounding the western Blacksands. The only confirmation of Current’s status as alive is Enbrias’ constant agony. Hal: A Kingslayer not recruited, but contaminated by the Mechanism after a falling block of steel hit their head. Hal wanders with no clear purpose except to slay other gods, regardless of moral standing or previous actions. Presumably, Hal is meant to prolong the Mechanism’s existence, thereby eliminating other threats before the Mechanism could descend. Abaseth, the Guardian of Eternity: A Kingslayer of unknown origin tied to Abasen, seemingly aggressive towards any god which threatens to enter the Dam of Eternity’s domain. Abaseth appears to wield a portion of Abasen’s control over time, namely momentary, localized stasis.
