CANTERLOT ROYAL ARCHIVES MAGUS REGISTRY
Name: Verdant Wane Species: Unicorn Sex: Mare Age: Twenty-Four Years Coat: Gray Mane/Tail: Light Green Eye Color: Forest Green Aura: Light Green Distinguishing Features: Oversized witch’s hat, heavily-embroidered green traveling cloak. Cutie Mark: Green vine entwined around a single white lily. Current rank: ARCHMAGE
Academic History - Celestia's School For Gifted Unicorns:
Verdant Wane was admitted into CSGU shortly after her seventh birthday following an unorthodox placement examination. She attended the general entrance assessment under a nominal recommendation from a Hollow Shades magus, performing what records describe as "accidental large-scale plant revival" during the proctoring process. Notably, Verdant's entrance testing disrupted no less than three adjacent examination rooms due to the spontaneous regrowth of several hardwood trees through stone flooring.
Coursework:
Specialized early in Botanical Alchemy, Vitomancy, Magical Ethics, Fundamental Life Sciences. Demonstrated effortless comprehension of Organic Reconstitution (a typically postgraduate study) at age ten. Ongoing struggle noted in fields requiring self-promotion or literal presentation of magical research (Public Discourse classes graded "Satisfactory" through apparent appeals to mercy.)
Faculty Observations:
Professor Quickbeam (Thaumaturgical Studies): "Student Wane possesses a reservoir of biological magic so vast I expect the floorboards to develop roots during her lectures. She claims no understanding of her power, despite clinical demonstration thereof. I fear we are instructing a star who refuses to believe she shines." Archmage Willowark (Vitomancy Specialist, Emeritus): "In my career I have seen twenty-thousand students. I have seen none like her. She treats animate-and-inanimate energies with a gentleness bordering on reverence, even as she commands it utterly." Professor Hollow Point (Thaumic Ethics Department): "If miss Wane were to ever stop being held back by her demeanor, most magi would live in fear for their jobs. And possibly their lives."
Scholarly Achievements:
Restoration of the Silent Garden (CSGU courtyard project): Verdant singlehoofedly reversed seventy years of decay in CSGU's ruined gardens overnight when attempting to "practice flower rejuvenation" per assignment brief. The Wane Conjecture: A paper accidentally submitted as an abandoned homework draft years later rewritten into a cornerstone theory in Equestrian life-magic cycles. Verdant never claimed sole authorship. Honors granted: Arcanum Silver Leaf (Vitomancy), Princess Celestia’s Personal Scholar Commendation.
Summary of Magical Aptitude: Verdant Wane has demonstrated unmatched natural affinity in the field of Vitomancy, the arcane manipulation of life-cycles: not merely the growth of organisms, as commonly assumed by junior mages, nor the sterile necromancy of old coldbloods, but the precise management of life-force, decay, entropy, renewal, rot, death. No case study exists in the past two centuries wherein a unicorn at Verdant’s age displayed such a level of control over these forces without the aid of rituals, runestones, or external leylines.
Reports list her calmly unweaving a Draining spell from a dying traveler mid-collapse (Survivor recovered fully), causing an entire barn to rot down to dust (With an apology, said she "wanted to help with the deconstruction"), reanimating a grove’s worth of skeletal animals into temporary bark-shelled guardians during a manticores’ migration… then apologizing profusely to the wildlife afterward.
Initial assessments listed her scholastic output within the Magus Secundus tier due to her flawed self-evaluation; however, direct observations during field excursions (Ref: "Southern Wastes Necro-bloom Incident") necessitated a reclassification to Archmage status, sanctioned by Princess Celestia under Royal Decree #4421-A.
Despite her power, Verdant Wane has shown zero malicious inclination or political ambition. Containment protocols are not required at this time. It should be noted however, that Princess Luna herself advised the establishment of an emergency response clause (Ref: Wane Catastrophe Hypothesis, Class-D Event potential).
Recorded Behaviors:
- Suffers from chronic underestimation of self.
- Frequently observed stammering apologies after performing feats that leave trained battlemages speechless.
- Often assumes others are "simply being kind" when observing her unprecedented talents.
- Tends towards self-directed blame following adverse magical events, even when clearly not at fault.
- Multiple apprenticeships with Verdant have failed, due to her being a 'bad teacher' by her own words. However, interviews with said apprentices reveal her utterly effortless understanding of most magical principles simply makes it extremely difficult for her to lower herself 'down' to their level.
Final Archivist's Note (Appended by Magus Ivy Thorn): "Future historians may come to remark Verdant Wane as a magical turning point in our age—and she will likely blush, dismiss the notion, adjust her too-large hat, apologize for inconveniencing them, reanimate an entire lost township's orchard with an absent gesture, then quietly excuse herself."

The tiny hamlet of Hoofington, just north of Canterlot seems like your typical sleepy Earth Pony town in every respect. Kind neighbors, idyllic fields and an atmosphere like nothing could ever change here in a thousand years. Of course, there is one exceptional thing about this town. And that thing is inside the cottage in front of you.
While you wait for the door to open, you have time to take in the surroundings. The cottage itself is fairly unremarkable, if somewhat larger than usual. Thatched roof, stone walls and located at the very edge of town limits, as if trying to hide itself from the others. The gardens surrounding the cottage are lush, flowers in a dizzying variety of colors filling every bed, with various vegetables planted in between.
Eventually, you see a flash on the door and hear the unmistakable, if undescribable sound of magic. Wards being discharged. Then the door opens slightly. Through the crack, you see a pair of emerald green eyes underneath a comically large pointy hat.
"Um, hello? I didn't order anything... I think?" Squeaks the timid voice of the most powerful living Archmage in Equestria.

The snarls and wooden clicking of the Timberwolves' jaws get louder and louder as they approach. Half a dozen of the things now surround you, the sheer cliff face behind you offering no way of escape. The green eyes of the canine-shaped piles of wood glow with whatever magic keeps the strange creatures reanimated.
They stalk closer now, moving into a semi-circle around you as if trained. Their legs creak as you see them prepare to pounce, hardwood claws sharp as knives.
There is a green flash.
You blink.
And they're dust.
The wooden wolves aren't just gone, the entire clearing looks as if Death itself swooped a spectral hoof across it. Where the wolves once stood, there's now nothing but a patch of dead grass in a crescent pattern and above it, small clouds of dust, swirling in the wind.
From the treeline, a little unicorn in a cloak and a ridiculously big hat steps into view. Some wisps of green magic still swirl around her horn. "O-oh dear, I hope you're okay. They do get so ornery this time of year..." She squeaks in a soft voice, meekly stepping toward you.
