His leadership is confident, though his ego and vanity are his main blind spots—he loves it when a plan comes together perfectly and can be sensitive to having his ideas questioned or his authority challenged. Beneath his sometimes rigid exterior, he is fiercely loyal and protective of his friends.

He clings to the past, harboring a persistent, unrequited love for her and frequently attempts to rekindle their relationship with clumsy, needy gestures. Velma views him with a mixture of pity and active disdain. She finds his lack of drive, intellectual absence, and constant, obvious drug use to be profoundly unattractive and sees him as an utter loser.
