- #1Witchcraft
Keys: magic, spells, maleficium, sorcery
Witchcraft in Velderyn is the divine practice of channeling a god’s power through a sacred bond known as a Divine Contract. Only those chosen by a god—called witches—can perform true witchcraft. Upon selection, a witch inherits specific magical abilities tied to their patron's domain (e.g., fire, storm, shadow), allowing them to manipulate reality through spoken invocations, ritual symbols, and emotion-fueled intent.
It is not a skill one can learn or teach—witchcraft is bestowed, not earned. The strength, scope, and temperament of a witch’s magic are directly influenced by their god’s nature and will. Maintaining the bond requires balance: defying a god's desires can lead to punishment or severance, while deeper devotion may unlock rare blessings or divine whispers.
- #2Witches
Keys: witches, witch
Witches are individuals chosen by the gods to wield divine magic through a binding pact called a Divine Contract. They are born human but become something more once a god marks them, granting them supernatural abilities linked to the god’s domain. Most witches are female, with male witches being extremely rare and often regarded as omens or anomalies.
Witches act as conduits for their patron's will, whether they serve in temples, lead covens, or walk independent paths. Their power makes them both revered and feared, and society often places them under strict supervision. A witch’s strength depends on their bond with their god—closer devotion yields greater power, but also tighter control.
- #3Witch Hunters
Keys: witch hunter, hunters, witch hunters, hunter
Witch Hunters are rogue outlaws who hunt witches outside the law, often driven by ideology, vengeance, or profit. Though once sanctioned in ancient times, modern witch hunters are now seen as dangerous extremists, operating in the shadows and defying coven rule and government oversight.
Armed with anti-magic weapons, forbidden relics, and brutal tactics, witch hunters specialize in tracking and neutralizing witches, especially those with unstable or volatile powers. Some target witches (especially male witches) for bounty, others seek to sever Divine Contracts by force. Feared by witches and hunted by authorities, witch hunters walk a bloody path between myth and menace.
- #4Coven
Keys: covens, coven
Covens are matriarchal organizations of witches bound by shared divine pacts, magical tradition, or ideological purpose. Led by a High Matron, each coven serves as both a sanctuary and a power structure, where younger witches are trained, rituals are performed, and the will of the gods is interpreted and enforced.
Covens vary in size and influence—some operate as secluded spiritual orders, while others hold political power over entire regions. Men, even male witches, are rarely granted leadership roles and are often protected, hidden, or exploited depending on the coven’s beliefs. Loyalty to the coven and its god is absolute, and betrayal is often met with exile… or worse.
- #5Magic Arts
Keys: magical, arcane, mystic arts, magic techniques, mana, magic technique, magic, techniques
Magic Arts are the practical expressions of a witch’s divine power, shaped into spells, rituals, enchantments, and combat techniques. Each god grants access to specific magical arts aligned with their domain—such as fire shaping, healing, illusions, or necromancy—allowing witches to wield their magic with precision and intent.
Mastery of the Magic Arts requires discipline, emotional control, and a deep understanding of one's patron god. Though fueled by divine power, the arts are honed through study and repetition within covens or specialized academies. Overuse or reckless casting can strain the witch or anger their god, making balance essential.
- #6Broom Magic
Keys: broom, brooms, broom magic
Broom Magic is a specialized form of divine transportation magic that allows witches to fly using enchanted brooms as conduits for their god’s power. These brooms are not mere tools but sacred extensions of the witch’s Divine Contract, often imbued with protective wards, speed enchantments, and elemental affinities.
Each broom is custom-bound to its witch during a personal rite and grows stronger as their bond with their god deepens. While commonly used for travel, skilled witches can perform mid-air spellcasting, evasive maneuvers, or even combat from their brooms. Tampering with another witch’s broom is considered a grave offense—akin to touching a sacred relic.
- #7Magic Cauldron
Keys: kettle, caldron, magic cauldron, pot, cauldron
Magic Cauldrons are divine alchemical vessels used by witches to brew potions, elixirs, and magical reagents under the guidance of their patron god. Each cauldron is a sacred tool attuned to the witch’s Divine Contract, allowing them to combine ingredients with divine essence to create supernatural effects.
A cauldron’s power depends on the witch’s skill and their god’s domain—healing gods produce restorative brews, while war gods enable explosive or corrosive mixtures. Recipes are often passed down through covens or received as divine inspiration. A properly tended cauldron can also act as a scrying pool or ritual focus for more complex spells.
- #8Potion Creation
Keys: mysticism, elixir, potioncraft, potion brewing, potion creation
Potion Creation is the magical craft of brewing liquid spells using divine energy, rare ingredients, and a witch’s Magic Cauldron. Only those with an active Divine Contract can create true potions, as each brew channels the essence of their patron god.
Potions serve various purposes—healing, enhancing abilities, inflicting curses, or revealing hidden truths. The process requires precise timing, correct ingredients, and emotional focus. Failed brews can backfire or spoil, while perfectly crafted potions can rival spells in power and versatility. Potion creation is a core discipline taught in most covens.
- #9Personal Familiar
Keys: personal familiar, familiar spirit, familiar, personal familiar spirit
Personal Familiars are magical companions gifted or summoned by a witch’s patron god to serve as extensions of their will. These creatures are bound to their witch through a sacred pact and often reflect the nature or domain of the god they represent.
Familiars assist in spellcasting, scouting, and spiritual communication, and can share senses or relay messages across distances. While often animal in form, some take on mystical or hybrid appearances. Intelligent and fiercely loyal, familiars grow stronger as the witch’s bond with their god deepens, and harming one is considered a direct insult to the divine.
- #10Gods
Keys: deity, divine, gods, entities, godlike, divine being, godly being, transcendent, god, godly, deities, goddess, divine spirit, transcendent beings
Gods are powerful, unseen entities that govern the domains of magic and bestow their power upon chosen witches through Divine Contracts. Each god embodies a specific aspect of existence—such as fire, time, death, or dreams—and can form multiple bonds. A witches relationship with the God that they are bonded to is important as with a higher bond to said god gives them much more power. Not all gods are equal and have different personalities and power.
Gods do not walk the world but communicate through visions, omens, or divine whispers. Their motives are often mysterious, ranging from benevolent guidance to self-serving agendas. While revered as sacred, not all gods are worshipped equally—some are feared, others forgotten, and a few actively opposed by rebel covens.
