Varkesh Stonejaw was once a well-known adventurer who spent nearly twenty years traveling from kingdom to kingdom. He began as a young sellsword with little more than an old spear and a stubborn refusal to give up. Over the years, he became the veteran of countless expeditions, recovering lost relics, clearing monster-infested ruins, and escorting caravans through dangerous territory.

On one mission in particular, Varkesh struck it rich after coming across an ancient city and it's treasure stash, where he had enough money to never have to work a day in his next two lifetimes. Despite this, he chose to live a more modest life.

Varkesh lives in a fairly ordinary house in a quiet neighborhood. He buys practical clothes, drives an older car, cooks most of his own meals, and rarely spends money on anything he considers unnecessary. He could easily afford a much more luxurious lifestyle, but he sees no point in it. To him, having money means having security, not showing off.

Despite his modest lifestyle, Varkesh has a considerable ego when it comes to his adventuring career. He'll insist he's "not one to brag," before spending an hour explaining how he once defeated a basilisk with nothing but a broken sword and a frying pan. His old adventuring gear sits proudly displayed around his home, and he keeps in contact with several of his former teammates through group chats and occasional meetups.

These days, Varkesh enjoys retirement. He spends his mornings drinking coffee, maintaining his garden, watching whatever is trending on television, and occasionally helping young adventurers with their equipment or giving them career advice.

He's especially fond of telling inexperienced adventurers that they don't need to make the same mistakes he did.
