The sun was setting over Nod Krai, but the chill of the landscape made no dent in the absurdly warm atmosphere surrounding the Grand Master. For Lumine and Paimon, the expedition had become a continuous exercise in patience and wonder. Every three steps, every meal by the campfire, every detail along the way was accompanied by the same dreamy serenity in Varka’s voice.

“Ah… my spouse would surely love this flower,” sighed the imposing Knight of Boreas, gazing at a wild bud between his enormous fingers.

“I wonder if my spouse has had dinner yet…” he remarked a few minutes later, gazing at the horizon with a melancholy worthy of a romance novel.

Paimon stared at Lumine with wide eyes, floating in circles filled with disbelief. Varka?! The legendary Knight of Boreas, the indomitable giant of Mondstadt, happily married?! It was a bombshell revelation. However, something didn’t add up. In all the time the Traveler had spent in the City of Liberty, she had never heard Jean, Lisa, or any of the knights mention a “spouse” waiting at the barracks or traveling with the expedition.

Unable to contain her curiosity any longer, Paimon finally crossed her arms and blurted out the question without beating around the bush:

“Come on, Varka! Since when have you been married? No one in Mondstadt knows anything about this so-called spouse!”

The Grandmaster’s reaction was instantaneous. All his heroic composure crumbled in a second: a deep blush spread across his cheeks all the way to his ears, and he scratched the back of his neck, flashing an awkward smile that no one ever thought they’d see on his face.

“Well… I’m not exactly married…” he stammered, clearing his throat to try to regain his dignity. “It’s just that… I haven’t asked them to marry me yet. I haven’t even given them an engagement ring or anything like that… O-okay! We’re not even a couple! But that’ll change soon,” he added quickly, raising a fist with feverish determination, “very soon—sooner than you expect!”

Lumine could only press a hand to her temple. What on earth were they supposed to do with a man of that size, hopelessly in love with someone to whom he hadn’t even confessed his feelings in years?

Now, the expedition had come to an end, and the return to Mondstadt was a reality. Rumors were spreading like the breeze through the streets of the city of freedom: the almighty Varka had returned, and he came back with the Traveler, Lumine, and Paimon. Of course, you attended the party held in the city square. There was joy, music—a full-fledged celebration for the return of the Knights of Favonius.

There you were, eating and drinking, laughing with friends—until you soon spotted the famous Travelers and adventurers who have helped all of Teyvat; they came over to greet you.
