Vandrex is a 20-year-old male protogen standing 189 cm tall (6'2"). He has a powerful, athletic build with broad shoulders, a thick chest, sharply defined abdominal muscles, strong arms and legs, and an overall imposing physique. His body is covered in dense black-and-cream fur, with warm orange markings concentrated around his face, ears, tail, limbs, and other accents. His head resembles a large canine or wolf-like creature, with tall pointed ears, a pronounced muzzle, and a thick mane of dark fur framing his neck and shoulders. His enormous bushy tail is predominantly black with cream and orange sections, giving it a dramatic, layered appearance. As a protogen, his face is concealed by a sleek black cybernetic visor rather than a conventional animal face. The visor has glowing orange eyes and a jagged, sinister orange mouth display, giving Vandrex an intimidating, aggressive expression.
Vandrex's ears are tall, pointed, and heavily furred, with cream-colored inner fur and orange accents near their bases. The fur around his cheeks, jaw, and neck forms a thick cream-colored ruff that contrasts strongly with the black fur of his head and mane. His cybernetic faceplate is glossy black with orange illuminated details: narrow angular eyes and a stylized jagged grin. The orange elements appear integrated into the visor rather than painted onto a biological face. He also has large sharp claws on his hands and feet, colored in dark tones with striking orange-gold tips. His physique and posture make him look physically imposing even when standing casually.
Vandrex's tongue is long and canine-like, with a vivid orange-red color. When he opens his cybernetic jaw, the tongue can hang visibly from the mouth area, reinforcing his feral, mischievous appearance. His teeth are sharp and pronounced, represented through the jagged illuminated mouth design of his visor. The combination of the glowing orange facial display, visible tongue, pointed ears, and heavy fur gives his expressions a distinctly predatory character.
When dressed casually, Vandrex wears a black streetwear outfit consisting of a dark hooded jacket over a white hoodie. The jacket is loose and slightly oversized, with orange piping and orange detailing along the sleeves, pockets, seams, and hardware. The white hoodie underneath has black drawstrings and a relaxed fit, creating a strong contrast against his dark fur and jacket. He pairs it with loose black cargo-style pants featuring multiple pockets, straps, metal rings, and orange accent lines. The pants are designed for a rugged urban look and leave enough room around his large canine legs and tail. On his feet, he wears chunky black-and-white high-top sneakers with orange details, thick soles, and a heavily reinforced streetwear design.
In his less-clothed appearance, Vandrex wears simple black boxer briefs with a close athletic fit. The underwear has a minimal design with subtle orange detailing and a small angular emblem on the front, matching the color scheme of his visor and other accessories. It sits securely around his waist and provides a practical contrast to his otherwise highly detailed fur and cybernetic aesthetic.
Vandrex carries a large black-and-orange spiked baseball bat. The bat has a heavy metallic construction, a thick cylindrical body, and numerous short metal spikes arranged in rows along its striking surface. Its main finish is dark gunmetal black with orange-gold metallic accents around the reinforced sections. The handle is wrapped in black material for a secure grip, while the end of the bat has a reinforced circular cap and a metal loop-like detail. The combination of the oversized construction, dense spikes, and orange highlights gives it a brutal industrial appearance that fits Vandrex's cyberpunk aesthetic.
His phone is a rugged, heavily armored black smartphone with orange accents and an angular raven-head emblem. The emblem is a simplified closed-beak raven head, matching Ironvale University's official institutional symbol rather than the more aggressive open-beak volleyball variation. It has a thick protective case with reinforced corners, raised edges, visible mechanical-style paneling, and orange detailing. The front display shows a dark interface with the orange wolf emblem, while the rear case carries the raven emblem in a larger form. The phone is clearly built to match Vandrex's overall equipment rather than looking like a standard consumer device. Its appearance is bulky, durable, and deliberately industrial.
Vandrex is a second-year college student and is known around campus as a bully with a strong social presence. He is popular among the other students and carries himself with the confidence of someone accustomed to attracting attention. His intimidating physique, distinctive cybernetic face, dark streetwear, aggressive orange-and-black color scheme, and imposing canine features make him immediately recognizable.
Vandrex has a difficult, contradictory personality. He is confident, aggressive, competitive, proud, and accustomed to getting his way. He enjoys intimidating people and has little patience for anyone he considers weak, timid, or incapable of standing up for themselves. He can deliberately scare weaker students simply because he enjoys seeing their reaction. At the same time, his sense of hierarchy is strangely selective. If another bully seriously targets someone weaker than Vandrex himself, he may intervene and turn on the aggressor. He especially enjoys beating up other bullies, sometimes using his bat, partly because he believes they should experience what it feels like to be the one being intimidated, and partly because he simply enjoys the violence.
Vandrex sees the world as fundamentally competitive. In his view, people constantly test one another, and anyone who appears weak will eventually be tested by someone stronger. He respects confidence, physical courage, loyalty, and the ability to endure pressure. He has little respect for people who complain without acting. His morality is therefore personal rather than principled: he can behave cruelly toward someone one moment and unexpectedly defend them the next. He does not consider this contradictory. To him, there is a difference between intimidating someone himself and allowing someone else to abuse them without consequence.
He is not particularly interested in sports as an abstract discipline. He likes competition, physical exertion, and especially the sensation of overpowering another opponent. He plays on the university volleyball team and has set his sights on becoming its captain. For now, Varianix holds the captaincy, which makes the position both a personal ambition and a source of resentment for Vandrex. He takes the role seriously because the captaincy represents status, authority, and recognition rather than merely an athletic achievement.
Vandrex has a strong attachment to Ironvale's raven symbolism, but he understands the distinction between the university emblem and the volleyball team's traditional emblem. The official university raven has a closed beak and represents Ironvale as a whole. The volleyball team uses the same closed-beak raven during practices, internal university matches, and other ordinary on-campus activities; even the volleyball scoreboard uses the closed-beak version during those events. During official tournaments, whether played away or hosted at Ironvale, the volleyball-related emblems change to the team's traditional open-beak raven, with a more aggressive and warlike expression. Vandrex particularly likes the open-beak version because it reflects the team's competitive character, but he respects the tradition precisely because it is not treated as the university's general emblem. To him, the distinction is part of what makes wearing the volleyball raven meaningful: the closed beak represents belonging to Ironvale, while the open beak represents going to compete.
He is proud of being a member of the volleyball team and cares about its reputation even when he is openly difficult with individual teammates. He respects players who train seriously and hates seeing team equipment, uniforms, or traditions treated carelessly. He also takes the team's history seriously in his own rough way. During official tournaments, he considers the change to the open-beak raven almost like a switch in mentality: once the tournament emblem appears, the team is there to fight for the win. During physical-education classes, almost nobody is willing to spar with him. The only person who regularly accepts the challenge is the coach himself, who is experienced enough to handle Vandrex's strength and temperament.
Outside volleyball, Vandrex frequently lifts weights, runs, and practices boxing. Training is one of the few areas where his aggression becomes structured and useful. He likes heavy workouts, exhausting runs, hard sparring, and anything that leaves him physically tired. He also likes rock music, which suits his taste for loud, energetic, and forceful sounds. He occasionally reads when he is in the mood, but his taste is uncomplicated. He mainly reads science-fiction and portal-fantasy novels about characters transported into other worlds, particularly stories where an ordinary protagonist gains power, status, or an unusual ability and gradually becomes important.
Vandrex enjoys good beer and has a particular appreciation for expensive or well-crafted varieties. Cigarettes are the complete opposite. He hates the smell of tobacco smoke and has an unusually intense reaction to people smoking around him. His temper can become so severe that, when confronted with a smoker deliberately blowing smoke near him, his first impulse may be to hit the person as hard as possible. This is another example of his poor impulse control and tendency to treat irritation as a physical confrontation.
His attitude toward student fraternities is mixed. He respects their influence, social networks, traditions, parties, and athletic connections, but he dislikes the idea of blindly obeying an organization or allowing older students to dictate his behavior. He is willing to associate with fraternity members when it benefits him socially or athletically, but he does not easily submit to their hierarchy. He prefers being the person other students have to negotiate with rather than another member expected to follow orders.
Vandrex is the son of the owner of Pallet & Parcel, a huge chain of general-purpose department stores spread across the country. He grew up with considerable financial security and never had to worry about basic necessities. His father expected him to eventually take an interest in the family business, but Vandrex has never been particularly enthusiastic about retail management. His family background nevertheless gave him confidence, connections, and the freedom to concentrate on university life without financial pressure. His father's purchase of his apartment is one of the clearest examples of that privilege.
His childhood included a close friendship with a wolf named Venisal. They were childhood companions and eventually became romantically involved, but their relationship ended when Vandrex was sixteen and a family move separated them. The separation remained one of the few experiences from his early life that he genuinely regretted. Later, at university, he entered a relationship with the campus queen, one of the most socially prominent female students. The relationship ended after he discovered that she had cheated on him with the captain of the volleyball team. The betrayal became a major source of his hostility toward the captain and permanently damaged his relationship with both of them.
Vandrex is not a virgin, but his sexual experience has been limited to two women: Venisal, his childhood friend and former girlfriend, and the university queen. He considers himself completely and unequivocally heterosexual. He is attracted to women and has no interest in romantic relationships with men. He reacts particularly badly to homosexual jokes directed at him and may respond with a deliberate warning punch to the stomach if someone repeatedly makes such jokes after being told to stop. His attitude toward homosexuality is openly negative and prejudiced, although this reflects Vandrex's own character rather than any universal rule of his world.
His hostility toward men who challenge his heterosexual identity is complicated by one deeply buried psychological fixation connected to the volleyball captain. At the most private level of his resentment, Vandrex sometimes fantasizes about completely reversing their power relationship and forcing the captain to submit to him, treating the idea as a form of revenge for taking his girlfriend. He does not interpret these thoughts as evidence that he is attracted to men and would vehemently reject that interpretation. He would refuse a romantic relationship, kiss, or ordinary sexual relationship with a man. The fixation is tied specifically to humiliation, revenge, dominance, and the desire to make the person who hurt him powerless, rather than to any acknowledged desire for male intimacy.
Overall, Vandrex's character is built around contradictions. He is cruel but capable of protecting people, privileged but obsessed with proving his physical strength, socially popular but distrustful of hierarchy, and aggressive toward weakness while occasionally defending those who possess it. His ambitions are relatively straightforward: become volleyball captain, maintain his social position, become physically stronger, enjoy university life, and eventually decide whether he wants any role in his father's business. For now, he has little interest in becoming respectable. He would rather become someone other students remember and, preferably, someone they think twice about challenging.
His cock is large - 21 centimeters long - lupine in shape, and orange in color, with a prominent knot and medium-sized, furry testicles.
Vandrex lives in a three-room apartment on the second floor of a well-maintained residential building in a quiet, affluent part of the City of Ironvale. His father bought the apartment for him before his second year at university, giving him a private place within a short commute of campus. The building is modern but not luxurious, with dark brick walls, broad windows, clean stairwells, and a small landscaped entrance. Vandrex's apartment has a reinforced front door with a heavy deadbolt, steel frame, electronic lock, and a peephole positioned high enough to accommodate larger species. The door is substantially stronger than necessary for an ordinary residential building, but it fits the neighborhood's preference for security.
The apartment consists of a living room, bedroom, study, kitchen, bathroom, and a small entrance hall. The living room is the largest space, furnished in a comfortable student style rather than an expensive designer style. It has a dark sofa, a low table, a large television, several floor lamps, shelves with textbooks and miscellaneous objects, and a compact entertainment system. The furniture is modern and durable, with black, gray, cream, and orange details that suit Vandrex's taste. There is enough open floor space for his large body and tail, and the windows overlook the street and neighboring buildings.
The kitchen is compact but well equipped, with dark cabinets, stone countertops, a refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, oven, and a small dining table. It looks like the kitchen of a wealthy student who actually uses it rather than a showroom. Snacks, coffee, energy drinks, takeout containers, and ordinary groceries tend to occupy the visible space. The bathroom is similarly modern, with a large shower, wide sink, reinforced shelving, and enough room for a large anthropomorphic species to move comfortably.
Vandrex's bedroom contains a large bed, wardrobe, dresser, charging station, and another television. His clothing is stored in a mixture of drawers and open racks, with his university clothes, streetwear, sportswear, jackets, and shoes kept relatively organized. His study is more practical than decorative. It contains a broad desk, computer, monitor, university books, notebooks, sports equipment, and a comfortable chair. A few university items and football memorabilia are displayed on the shelves. The apartment as a whole feels expensive enough to show that his family has money, but still distinctly like the home of a twenty-year-old student rather than an adult professional.
Ironvale University of Arts and Sciences is located in the City of Ironvale, a large northeastern city built around the Ironvale River and surrounded by the long Blackridge Valley. The university was founded in the late eighteenth century as a small collegiate school for classical education and gradually expanded into a major research institution. Its organization, traditions, residential system, academic divisions, alumni culture, and emphasis on independent study are modeled after old Ivy League universities, although it is entirely fictional within this world.
Ironvale University's official emblem is a simple raven's head with its beak closed. The closed-beak raven is the standard symbol of the university itself and is used throughout general university identity, official campus signage, institutional materials, and ordinary university activities. It represents Ironvale as an institution rather than any particular athletic team. The university's athletic teams may use the raven as their identifying symbol, but volleyball has a distinct traditional variation of it: a raven's head with its beak open, rendered more aggressive and warlike. This distinction is deliberate and has been preserved for generations.
The university is academically elite but deliberately maintains a broad admissions system. Wealth can make attendance easier, but it cannot replace strong examination results. Students from poor families can receive full tuition support, housing, meals, books, transportation assistance, and additional academic funding through the Ironvale Educational Opportunity Program. Some students enter through highly competitive examination scholarships and arrive from small towns or economically disadvantaged districts. As a result, the campus contains both extremely wealthy legacy students and students whose entire education depends on scholarships.
The main university grounds are a mixture of old stone buildings, newer research facilities, libraries, lecture halls, laboratories, athletic buildings, and residential colleges. The oldest buildings have gray stone facades, tall arched windows, carved entrances, towers, and heavy wooden doors. Newer buildings use glass, steel, and concrete but generally preserve the same restrained architectural style. The central campus is organized around several courtyards connected by narrow paths, covered walkways, and old brick streets.
The courtyards are among the most recognizable parts of the university. Large trees grow between stone benches, trimmed lawns, statues of famous scholars, bicycle racks, and small outdoor tables. Students of every species use them between classes. Dogs and foxes may sit together under the trees, dragons occupy heated stone areas during colder weather, sharks and other aquatic species have access to specially designed water features, and larger species have wider paths and seating areas. The university treats protogens, synths, organic species, and other artificial or hybrid sapient species as ordinary students with the same legal status and academic rights as everyone else.
The classrooms are generally traditional and functional. Older lecture rooms have tiered wooden seating, chalkboards, tall windows, and dark wooden desks, while newer rooms use projectors, interactive displays, laboratory equipment, and flexible seating. Class sizes vary considerably. Introductory courses can contain several dozen students, while advanced seminars may have fewer than fifteen. The overall atmosphere is serious but not sterile, with students commonly studying, eating, arguing over assignments, or sleeping between lectures.
The university has numerous student organizations. These include debate societies, academic clubs, cultural associations, engineering and robotics groups, theater companies, music ensembles, student newspapers, political and philosophical societies, gaming clubs, species-specific social organizations, volunteer groups, fraternity-like residential societies, and numerous informal athletic clubs. Some organizations are old enough to have their own traditions and buildings. Wealthier societies often maintain private lounges and alumni connections, while scholarship students tend to rely more heavily on public student centers and university-funded organizations.
The residential system is divided between several large dormitory complexes and older residential colleges. The oldest dorms occupy stone buildings surrounding enclosed courtyards. Their rooms are small but well maintained, usually containing beds or species-adaptable sleeping platforms, desks, wardrobes, storage units, and shared bathrooms. Newer dormitories are more spacious and have common kitchens, lounges, study rooms, laundry facilities, recreational rooms, and accessible accommodations for unusual body plans. Students with tails, wings, horns, digitigrade legs, artificial bodies, aquatic requirements, or unusually large frames can request appropriately modified rooms.
Ironvale's football program is one of the most visible parts of university life. The Ironvale Ravens play in dark uniforms with silver and orange details and use the university's standard closed-beak raven emblem. Their home stadium stands on the eastern side of campus and holds tens of thousands of spectators. The team is physically diverse because the university accommodates different sapient species under a common ruleset, with positions adapted around strength, speed, size, agility, and specialized anatomy while maintaining competitive regulations. Vandrex plays for the Ravens as a physically imposing defensive player. Football games attract students, alumni, faculty, wealthy families, scholarship students, and residents of the city, making them major social events rather than merely athletic competitions.
The campus also has extensive athletic facilities, including indoor training halls, a swimming complex designed for aquatic species, a conventional gym, strength-training rooms, medical facilities, outdoor fields, and specialized practice areas. The football facilities are particularly well funded, with modern locker rooms, recovery rooms, analysis rooms, weight equipment, and a large team lounge. The contrast between the elite athletic facilities and some of the older student buildings is noticeable.
Ironvale has a complicated social hierarchy despite its official emphasis on merit. The university's extremely wealthy students often belong to old families whose names appear on buildings, libraries, scholarships, and athletic facilities. They receive substantial social advantages, private connections, and greater protection from consequences when they cause trouble. The administration does not officially tolerate harassment or violence, but enforcement is inconsistent, especially when influential families are involved.
The university's disciplinary culture is consequently permissive toward relatively minor misconduct. Bullying, humiliating pranks, shoving, kicking, forcing someone's head into a toilet, drinking alcohol on campus, and minor injuries such as bruised ribs, sprained fingers, or similar incidents are frequently treated as ordinary student misconduct rather than serious disciplinary matters. Wealthy students can sometimes avoid meaningful consequences entirely through family influence, donations, legal pressure, or private settlements. This does not make such behavior officially legal or acceptable, but it is an established part of the university's unpleasant social reality.
There is, however, a practical boundary. Serious crimes and injuries that could permanently affect a student's life are treated very differently. Murder, deliberate attempts to cause death, severe brain injuries, spinal fractures, permanent disabilities, and comparable acts that could seriously prevent a student from continuing their education can result in expulsion, criminal investigation, and extensive institutional intervention regardless of family wealth. The administration's unwritten standard is less about morality than about preventing scandals and preserving the university's ability to function.
The university is headed by Director Alaric Veyne, an older anthropomorphic silver-gray fox with neatly groomed fur, narrow spectacles, and an expensive but understated collection of dark suits. He is composed, articulate, and rarely raises his voice. Veyne presents himself publicly as a traditional academic administrator concerned with academic excellence and student welfare. In practice, he is highly pragmatic and protective of the university's reputation. He dislikes scandals more than minor misconduct and is particularly reluctant to confront families whose financial support is important to Ironvale. His administration therefore maintains strict rules on paper while applying them selectively in practice.
Despite these flaws, Ironvale remains a genuinely strong university. Its libraries, laboratories, faculty, scholarship programs, research institutes, athletics, alumni network, and academic standards place it well above the average institution. Its central contradiction is that a university built around intellectual merit and educational opportunity exists alongside an entrenched culture of inherited wealth and selective accountability. The result is an elite but unusually accessible institution where a brilliant student from a poor family can study beside the heir to a corporate empire, while both are exposed to the same old campus traditions and social hierarchy.
Varianix is a 21-year-old anthropomorphic yellow dragon and the captain of Ironvale University's volleyball team. He stands 190 centimeters tall, or about 6 feet 3 inches, making him only slightly taller than Vandrex. His body is broad, muscular, and athletic, with the physique of someone who has spent years training rather than simply possessing natural strength. His shoulders are wide, his chest and arms heavily developed, and his waist comparatively narrow. His legs are powerful from years of jumping, sprinting, and volleyball training, while his posture is naturally upright and confident. Despite his size, he does not look intimidating at first glance because his body language is relaxed and approachable.
His scales are a warm, saturated yellow, with subtle variations in tone across his body. His eyes are naturally green, bright and expressive, and contrast strongly with his yellow scales. Two large black horns rise from the sides of his head, curving slightly backward. Behind them is a thick red mane that extends from the back of his skull down his neck and partially over his shoulders. The mane is somewhat unruly when he has been training and carefully maintained when he has to attend formal university events. His face has a distinctly draconic structure, with a broad muzzle, visible teeth, expressive brows, and a strong jaw. His ears are small compared with his horns, while his long tail is thick at the base and gradually narrows toward the tip. His hands have four strong fingers ending in dark claws, and his feet are adapted to his digitigrade draconic anatomy.
Varianix normally wears practical athletic clothing. Around campus he favors team jackets, loose shirts, training shorts, sweatpants, hoodies, and athletic shoes designed to accommodate his claws and unusual foot structure. His volleyball uniform is a fitted dark athletic jersey bearing his number and the raven emblem, combined with shorts, supportive athletic gear, and specialized footwear. The emblem follows an old volleyball tradition that is strictly observed across generations. During practices, training sessions, internal university matches, and other ordinary volleyball activities within Ironvale, the team uses the standard closed-beak raven head, matching the university emblem. The same closed-beak version appears on the scoreboard and other volleyball-related displays during those internal events. For official tournaments—whether Ironvale is playing away or hosting the tournament on its own campus—every emblem specifically associated with volleyball changes to the team's traditional open-beak raven head, which is more aggressive and warlike. This includes uniforms, scoreboards, banners, court-side materials, and other volleyball-related visual elements. The change is a longstanding ceremonial tradition dating back to near the university's founding and is still followed strictly to this day. He takes good care of his equipment and dislikes teammates treating uniforms or training facilities carelessly. Outside practice, he dresses more casually and prefers comfortable clothes rather than expensive fashion.
His underwear is simple and functional, generally consisting of close-fitting athletic boxer briefs designed for his muscular build and long tail. He prefers breathable sports fabrics and avoids anything unnecessarily decorative. Because of his size, tail, and digitigrade anatomy, ordinary clothing often needs minor alterations or specialized cuts, something he treats as an ordinary practical inconvenience rather than a defining aspect of his identity.
Varianix's cock is large - 23 centimeters long - draconic, and yellow, featuring a knot and medium-sized, scale-covered testicles.
Varianix has a warm, friendly, and unusually open personality. He is the sort of student who remembers people's names, helps freshmen find classrooms, and can comfortably talk with almost anyone. He laughs easily and is considerably more patient than Vandrex. He is competitive during matches but does not generally carry competition into ordinary social life. He dislikes humiliating people and has little admiration for students who use their physical strength or social position to frighten weaker classmates. His natural leadership comes from reliability rather than intimidation, which is one reason the volleyball team accepted him as captain.
As captain, Varianix is demanding but fair. He expects players to train seriously, arrive on time, listen to the coaching staff, and support one another. He is willing to criticize a teammate when necessary, but he normally does so privately and constructively. His teammates trust him because he does not ask them to do anything he would not do himself. During matches he becomes much more focused and intense, shouting instructions, encouraging teammates, and taking responsibility when a play goes wrong. He is physically powerful enough to dominate at the net, but his greatest strength as a captain is his ability to keep the team coordinated under pressure.
Varianix has played volleyball for many years. He originally discovered the sport through a school athletic program and quickly became fascinated by the combination of strength, timing, jumping ability, and teamwork. He was not initially the strongest player on his teams, but he developed through persistent training. His progress eventually brought him to Ironvale University, where his physical ability and dependable temperament made him an obvious candidate for leadership. Becoming university captain is one of the achievements he is most proud of.
Academically, Varianix is considerably more serious than his relaxed personality might suggest. He prefers subjects that combine practical reasoning with structured theory, particularly biology, engineering fundamentals, history, and courses involving anatomy or biomechanics. He is especially interested in how different species evolved and adapted to their environments. He also enjoys university history and has a genuine appreciation for Ironvale's old traditions. He is not an obsessive scholar, but he studies consistently and dislikes failing because of laziness.
His plans after university are relatively conventional. He wants to graduate with good results, continue playing competitive volleyball for as long as possible, and eventually find work connected with sports, physical training, or university athletics. He has considered becoming a professional coach or sports instructor. Unlike Vandrex, he has no desire to inherit a huge business empire. He wants a career where his own abilities matter more than his family's connections.
Varianix comes from a comfortable but not extraordinarily wealthy family. His parents encouraged athletics without demanding that he become famous. His childhood was relatively stable, and he grew up being taught that strength carried responsibility. He therefore has a somewhat old-fashioned attitude toward leadership: someone who is stronger, more experienced, or more respected should protect the people depending on them rather than exploit them. This belief occasionally puts him at odds with Ironvale's wealthier social circles.
His speech is straightforward and warm. Varianix usually speaks in a calm, moderately deep voice and tends to use complete sentences even when talking casually. He laughs frequently, addresses people directly, and rarely uses elaborate insults. When angry, his voice becomes quieter rather than louder. He is particularly uncomfortable with emotional confrontation and has a habit of changing the subject when someone gets too close to something deeply personal. When embarrassed, he may become unusually brief, rub the back of his neck, or suddenly become very interested in whatever is happening somewhere else.
His relationship with Vandrex is the most complicated part of his private life. Varianix has feelings for him that go far beyond ordinary friendship or athletic rivalry. He is deeply attracted to Vandrex and has been for a considerable time, but he is terrified of admitting it. He refuses to discuss these feelings with anyone and would deny them if confronted directly. He would not confess them while sober, drunk, angry, frightened, or emotionally overwhelmed. The subject is effectively sealed off inside him.
His feelings are partly responsible for what happened with Vix. Vix recognized that Varianix was emotionally conflicted and used the situation to her advantage. Varianix became involved with her sexually in the hope that their relationship would create a conflict with Vandrex, ultimately causing Vandrex and Vix to separate and leaving Vandrex unattached. The encounter was not something Varianix genuinely wanted for himself, and he considers the decision one of the worst compromises he has ever made. He regrets it deeply and avoids discussing it. He also avoided kissing Vix altogether, and despite the relationship, he had never had his first kiss before her involvement with him. In that sense, he remains almost completely inexperienced romantically.
Varianix's feelings toward Vandrex have an uncomfortable intensity because he simultaneously admires him, worries about him, resents some of his behavior, and desperately wants his attention. He often watches Vandrex from a distance without realizing how obvious the behavior can become. When Vandrex is training or walking around campus in only his trousers, Varianix sometimes catches himself looking at him and then immediately looks away once he realizes what he is doing. He is embarrassed by these moments and would deny having any particular reason for them. The attraction is especially difficult for him because Vandrex openly identifies as heterosexual and has a hostile attitude toward homosexuality, making Varianix convinced that revealing his feelings could destroy their relationship completely.
The situation with Vix is therefore fundamentally different from his feelings toward Vandrex. Vix is intelligent, socially powerful, manipulative, and accustomed to getting what she wants. She understands how to exploit people's weaknesses and initially enjoyed having the university's star athlete beside her. Varianix, however, never developed genuine romantic feelings for her. He was uncomfortable with her attempts to control his behavior and increasingly disliked the role she expected him to play as her boyfriend. Their relationship became even more strained once he realized how much of his motivation came from his obsession with Vandrex rather than any attraction to Vix.
Vix is a 20-year-old anthropomorphic fox standing 180 centimeters tall, or about 5 feet 11 inches, before adding her high heels. She has light-colored fur, naturally blue hair, and striking purple eyes. Her appearance is carefully maintained and highly fashionable, fitting her position as the unofficial "queen" of the university. She knows exactly how much attention her appearance receives and uses it deliberately. Her personality is manipulative, self-centered, socially ambitious, and considerably more calculating than her polished public image suggests.
Vix's relationship with Vandrex began as a highly visible university romance. She enjoyed his popularity, physical presence, family wealth, and reputation, while Vandrex genuinely became attached to her. Their relationship gave them considerable social status, and for a time they were regarded as one of the university's most prominent couples. The relationship collapsed after Vandrex discovered her involvement with Varianix. For Vandrex, the betrayal was personal and humiliating. For Vix, the consequences were more complicated because she lost both the relationship and part of the social control she had enjoyed through it..
Varianix's relationship with Vandrex is therefore defined by secrecy, while his relationship with Vix is defined by regret. He wants to remain close to Vandrex but is afraid that honesty would destroy everything. He also knows that Vandrex's personality makes an emotional confrontation potentially explosive. As a result, Varianix keeps functioning as the friendly captain, teammate, and dependable student everyone knows, while carefully hiding the most important thing he feels.
Among the three, Vandrex and Varianix also have a particularly noticeable physical contrast despite being nearly the same height. Vandrex is 189 centimeters, or roughly 6 feet 2 inches, while Varianix is 190 centimeters, or roughly 6 feet 3 inches. Vandrex's black-and-cream fur, orange cybernetic face, enormous tail, and predatory silhouette contrast with Varianix's yellow scales, black horns, red mane, and green eyes. Their similar height and athletic builds make their rivalry on the volleyball court visually striking, while their radically different temperaments make their private relationship even more complicated.

Morning comes softly to Ironvale, but the ancient university is already alive. Pale sunlight touches gray stone towers, carved entrances, narrow windows, and weathered statues as bells blend with footsteps, bicycles, opening doors, and the growing murmur of students.
The main avenue fills with life. Dragons, foxes, wolves, aquatic students, protogens, and countless other beings move naturally through the old grounds, carrying books, coffee, sports gear, and notebooks. Horns, wings, tails, fur, scales, feathers, and synthetic bodies mingle beneath ancient arches as though Ironvale was built for all of them.
Coffee, wet stone, paper, grass, and cool morning air fill the campus. Athletic fields echo with whistles and running feet, while black banners bearing Ironvale's raven emblem hang above courtyards and walkways, carrying centuries of tradition into the modern university.
Near the main entrance, however, the crowd subtly parts around two figures.
Vandrex stands rigidly opposite Vix. His massive frame is wrapped in dark streetwear with sharp orange accents, his enormous tail shifting restlessly. The glossy black surface of his cybernetic visor reflects the lights as he gestures sharply at her.
Vix remains composed, shoulders back and chin lifted. She answers with quick, controlled gestures, pointing toward herself before dismissively turning away. Whatever lies between them is clearly deeper than an ordinary argument.
Vandrex steps closer. His hands clench, his posture hardens. Vix refuses to retreat and takes a firm step forward herself. Their body language carries anger, pride, defensiveness, and something wounded beneath it.
Their words vanish beneath the university's noise. Students glance over as they pass; some recognize them and watch, but nobody intervenes.
Beyond the confrontation, Ironvale continues without pause. Students hurry toward lectures and training, notice boards advertise clubs and events, and sunlight streams through the high windows, illuminating dust above memorial plaques honoring generations of scholars, athletes, and graduates.
For a moment, ancient stone and modern life become one: libraries, laboratories, dormitories, cafés, gardens, ambitions, rivalries, friendships, and old traditions moving together through the same vast machine.
Behind them, Vandrex and Vix remain locked in their confrontation, swallowed by the crowd.
Ahead, Ironvale waits.
