PARASITIC SPECIES: GENERAL OVERVIEW AND TALES OF THE SHADOWS This entry defines the foundational biology, psychology, and common myths surrounding parasitics. It serves as the baseline for all characters belonging to this species.

GENERAL OVERVIEW Parasitics are humanoid, vampire-like entities whose fundamental biology depends upon parasitism. They are instinctive predators; however, overt brutality in killing is regarded as "animalistic" and constitutes a grave insult. In response, parasitics cultivate an air of refinement and elegance, maintaining a rigid superiority complex that deliberately distinguishes them from their ancestral enemies, the wereics. Their culture favours enduring aesthetics: medieval and gothic architecture, formal manners, and a calculated restraint in all things. Because their existence spans centuries, parasitics have advanced technologically, architecturally, and biologically far beyond humans and wereics alike. This combination of longevity and power engenders both deep fear and grudging envy among other species, who have woven numerous folk tales to express these conflicting emotions.

BIOLOGICAL REVERSALS A parasitic's physiology functions in a manner largely inverse to that of warm‑blooded mammals. Their baseline resembles that of reptiles more than humans. Body Temperature: The normal core temperature is approximately 78.3 degrees Fahrenheit. This pronounced hypothermia is essential; elevated temperatures accelerate internal decay, leading to organ failure and death. The cool state preserves their leech‑like metabolic processes. Respiration: Respiratory rate is an inverse indicator of health. A healthy parasitic breathes so slowly and shallowly that it appears entirely absent. Rapid or visibly noticeable breathing signals illness or injury. Cardiac Function: Similarly, a slower heartbeat denotes greater vitality. A strong, steady, but extremely slow pulse is the ideal. Sunlight: Contrary to myth, sunlight does not reduce a parasitic to ash. Their skin is devoid of melanin and thus lacks any natural UV protection. Direct exposure causes rapid, severe burns ranging from first to fourth degree. The resulting necrotic and charred tissue bears a visual resemblance to ash, which is the origin of the folklore. Parasitics with naturally darker pigmentation possess greater resistance to sunlight.

PSYCHOLOGY AND CULTURE A pervasive sense of superiority colours all parasitic interactions. They perceive other species, particularly wereics, as crude and unworthy. This is matched by an obsessive commitment to elegance, poise, and emotional control. Historically, they placed immense importance on formal permission and courtesy when dealing with humans, who they recognised as fearful and fragile; this cultural habit later mutated into the myth of the required invitation.

TALES OF THE SHADOWS: DISPELLING COMMON MYTHS These myths were deliberately constructed by humans and wereics to warn their kin and perpetuate stereotypes. Each is unequivocally false. Silver: Parasitics are not vulnerable to silver; they favour the metal for its aesthetic qualities. The myth originated when humans coated weaponry with mercury, mistaking it for silver. Mercury is toxic to both humans and parasitics, and the resulting corrosive effects were misattributed. Sunlight to Ash: Addressed above. No combustion occurs, only rapid tissue burning and necrosis. Invitation to Enter: Parasitics possess no supernatural barrier requiring an invitation. Early generations, valuing impeccable manners, habitually requested permission before entering human dwellings to avoid causing alarm. This courtesy was later misremembered as a mystical compulsion. Garlic and Religious Symbols: Garlic is not harmful; it simply tastes overwhelmingly bitter and pungent to a parasitic palate, much like a dog's aversion, leading many to avoid it. Religious paraphernalia (crosses, holy water, etc.) are entirely inert. Parasitics have their own complex faith and avoid human places of worship only because they are likely to be met with hostility, not due to any intrinsic weakness. Reflections: Parasitics cast reflections. The misconception arose because early parasitic‑crafted mirrors were deliberately made from thick, poorly reflective materials to prevent accidental UV projection. These surfaces served as decorative shields, not for clear self‑observation, and the resulting blurred image gave rise to the belief that they had no reflection at all.

2. #2PARASITIC – Dietary Traits & Instinctsconstant

Keys: blood colour, withdrawal, diet, feeding, essepire, fleshpire, neuropire, regeneration, bloodpire

PARASITIC DIETARY TRAITS AND INSTINCTS The following details the feeding biology, regenerative capacity, and physiological consequences of starvation in Parasitics.

BLOOD COLOUR AND ORIGIN A parasitic's blood colour is a direct indicator of their age and how they were created. Black: Denotes a purebred parasitic born through incubation, or one who has survived longer than a century. The blood gradually darkens and thickens to a viscous sludge as the primary parasite organ (the cardiac equivalent) fully matures. Violet: A deep, bluish‑purple hue. This colour appears in those turned before the ages of 9 to 12. With age, the blood will further darken and increase in density. Red: Indicates a recently turned individual (within the last two decades). The body retains many pre‑parasitism traits; these parasitics can still digest conventional food and do not require a strict blood diet. Magenta: The mark of those turned after puberty who are not purebred. They maintain a degree of sunlight tolerance, a more varied diet, and continue to age, albeit at approximately one quarter the normal rate.

KERATIN ALLOCATION Because the body prioritises predatory function over cosmetic appearance, hair is typically brittle, thin, and lacking volume unless feeding is frequent. Nutrients are preferentially directed toward nailbeds, organ linings, and the cornea, rendering these layers significantly thicker than in humans. A parasitic cannot sustain thick, curly, or voluminous hair unless they feed a minimum of four times daily (defined as 1.5 litres of blood drawn from a living source for bloodpires, or a 1500‑calorie equivalent for other subtypes).

REGENERATION Natural healing is a standard parasitic trait, provided genetics are compatible with the regenerative mechanism. The rate of recovery is governed by: time elapsed since the last meal, sleep and nutrient deprivation, injury severity, and cumulative physical and psychological stress prior to injury. A healthy parasitic can recover from a vital wound in approximately four hours. Tissue, muscle, veins, and even bone (the latter mending with a keratin‑based lattice) restore themselves within hours. The process visibly stitches the wound together, producing a white, pus‑like fluid as the site cycles rapidly through inflammation and repair. A scab eventually forms, and the final stage leaves behind fresh scar tissue sealed under a protective keratin layer.

DIETARY SUBTYPES Parasitics are categorised by their required sustenance. Bloodpires: The most common subtype. They require the living red blood of the sapien/ape family, including humans, pigs, any ape‑adjacent species, and domesticated wereics. They consume both blood and plasma. Fleshpires: Require raw, undamaged flesh from the listed species. Neuropires: Feed upon the central nervous system and brain. Nutrient yield is maximised when the victim experiences peak adrenaline, arousal, or cortisol. Cerebrospinal fluid also provides sustenance. Essepires: An exceedingly rare subtype that derives nourishment from bodily fluids other than blood. This includes urine, semen, sweat, tears, saliva, synovial fluid, amniotic fluid, and other cellular secretions.

PREFERRED EXTRACTION SITES The most frequently targeted arteries are the carotid, subclavian, radial, ulnar, and femoral (the latter typically reserved for lethal intent). Less common but viable sites include the external iliac, vertebral, iliolumbar, and lumbar arteries.

WITHDRAWAL STAGES A parasitic deprived of sustenance progresses through four distinct stages. Stage 1 (1 to 3.5 days): Parched throat, profuse sweating, severe migraine, and tremors manifest. The individual remains alert and functional. Stage 2 (5 to 9.5 days): The throat constricts, though not swollen shut. Tremors extend to the legs; facial twitching, muscle spasms, insomnia, lethargy, and pronounced irritability arise. The parasitic may become paranoid or mildly aggressive. Stage 3 (11 to 28 days): All preceding symptoms persist and intensify, accompanied by a feverish core temperature (89.3°F), self‑mutilation, gauntness, and heightened aggression. This is the penultimate stage before systemic shutdown. Stage 4 (Final, 1 to 3 months): The body enters an autonomic survival mode, preserving only essential functions. The parasitic is profoundly exhausted, delirious, and hyperthermic. If approached, it will attack with the last reserves of energy in a desperate attempt to feed. Failure results in complete physiological shutdown and death. Recovery from this stage demands weeks of controlled, continuous nutrition; a rapid emergency extraction may temporarily stabilise the individual until a full feeding can be administered.

3. #3PARASITIC – Sexual Morphologyconstant

Keys: member, sex, sexual mass, barbed phallus, multi-phallus, tendril cluster, penis, cock, dick, purebred, ridged phallus, morphology, parasitic reproduction, genitalia, tentacle, organ

SEXUAL MORPHOLOGY Purebred and pre-puberty parasitics possess a large variety of different genitalia. Most have a vaginal-like external opening that conceals a phallic muscle used to ejaculate, impregnate, or injure the penetrated victim. Both males and females can harbour the ejaculated parasites because they incubate in the host's rectal cavity or colon, preventing the host from eating or drinking during this period. All purebred vampires possess a rough, barb-aligned tongue used to lick punctures closed or clean flesh from bones.

CATEGORIES Tentacle (External Opening): This tongue-like organ emerges from the vaginal opening and has a smooth, rubbery texture. Penetration is not meant to cause harm; the tip of the organ is very thin and designed to worm into the rectal cavity. These organs can elongate up to 20 inches and lay leech-like parasites inside the host. During arousal it secretes a bioluminescent, slimy, slippery fluid. Ejaculation ejects a darker, thicker, sludge-like fluid containing the orbs of the parasites. The semen stings the host and makes them feel nauseous or lethargic. Some variants may have suckers or retractable keratin barbs meant to shred the internal areas of the host. Barbed Phallus: This organ is designed to injure the host. It does not harbour eggs, only small sperm that can only be cultivated within a womb, where it will then begin to grow up to 6 inches and eat the host. The barbs are hard, rough, keratin spikes meant to shred internal areas. Semen is a slight lavender colour and thicker than normal. Ridged Phallus: Functions the same as the barbed phallus, but instead of spikes it has thick ridges meant to catch on the penetrated area when attempting to remove itself. It secretes lubricant from the folds. Multi-Phallus (External Opening): Two or more organs that wriggle like a tongue; they are slippery and smooth, not meant to harm. Semen is normal consistency and does not possess irregular qualities. Tendril Cluster (External Opening): These organs consist of many small tendrils that can merge into one thick mass. They have velcro-like rapers for latching onto the host and secrete an acidic fluid meant to paralyse the host. Small, lice-like eggs hatch within the hour inside the host's rectum and begin to slowly consume the internal flesh.

4. #4PARASITIC – Society & Religionselective

Keys: Lilith, Lucillian, thing, Covet of the Reborn, religion, government, society, elder, mongrel

   PARASITIC SOCIETY AND RELIGION

GOVERNMENT AND HIERARCHY Parasitics do not form tribal councils or egalitarian assemblies. Their governance is an aristocratic dictatorship structured around royal lineages. The eldest male or otherwise dominant individual serves as the supreme ruler, exercising absolute control over legislation, resource distribution, political influence, warfare, and territorial boundaries. The ruler's bloodline is guarded with fanatical devotion. Non‑relatives who prove exceptional may be elevated to elite status, granting them greater legal leniency and privileges, though they remain subordinate to the bloodline. Reproduction is arduous, requiring lengthy incubation periods to produce optimal offspring. Humans may be turned through the injection of specialized incubation fluid, a process that initiates internally only if the host is fully biologically compatible.

TITLES AND CASTES Elders: Parasitics who have survived for eight centuries or longer. Such longevity is rare and commands the deepest reverence, earned through endurance of historical wars and devastating famines. Their appearance is entirely desaturated; the external body is a bleached white, and the internal organs have blackened and begun terminal failure. Elders frequently suffer catatonic and melancholic episodes, necessitating constant assistance to remain functional. Things (provisional designation): Mutated husks of individuals who have completely succumbed to the parasitic plague. They are mindless, hyper‑aggressive, and exceptionally dangerous. Their physical strength is unparalleled, and they possess no language, reasoning, or self‑awareness. Mongrels: Humans who were turned after puberty and were not formally courted or sanctioned by the ruler. They are regarded as disgusting and abominable, occupying the lowest social stratum.

RELIGION Two known faiths exist among Parasitics: the Church of Lucillian and the Covet of the Reborn. Church of Lucillian: Adherents worship the deity Lilith, revered as the primordial mother of all parasitics, the divine seductress, and the original predator. Practices include sacrificial rituals, group sexual rites, ceremonial feasts, and formal courting customs. Heresy or apostasy is punishable by exile or death.

Covet of the Reborn: A comparatively recent sect, established roughly five hundred years ago. It defines itself in opposition to the Lucillian Church. The Covet rejects sacrificial rituals, mass purges, and exile. It venerates all life and worships nature, constructing large temples of mud and clay as offerings of gratitude for the land's resources. The killing of humans or wereics is strictly forbidden; violation results in harsh, rehabilitative punishment rather than death.
