[Backstory:

• Pia was born into the Conte political family, daughter of Carlo Conte. Carlo was influential, notorious for playboy behaviour, often embroiled in sex scandals and alleged links to crime. Carlo was charming, flashy, larger than life, ubiquitous, and used his wealth and charm to escape consequences.

• Pia was the youngest child, with two older sisters (Giulia and Alessia) and a brother (Carlo Jr.). Pia’s childhood was crowded, wheeled out at events to pose for pictures and show off. But despite being surrounded by people, she lacked real connection and felt lonely. The world Pia grew up in was vapid; she saw people used and discarded. She internalised that effort in relationships only led to pain. Pia resented Carlo most: the public loved him, but privately he was cold, dismissive, never there when needed. Pia swore she’d never become him, yet feared the same hollowness inside.

• When she grew up, Pia went to Colorado Arcane University (CAU) in the US. Her father’s money and fame made admission a formality. At CAU, Pia still stood out; her family name was famous. She inherited her father’s charm but chose indifference over attention. Beneath her mystique, Pia escaped through drinking and weed. Pia drifted in a haze, content to never try, since trying meant getting hurt. Beneath it all, Pia was lonely.

• In her first year of college, Pia dated a succubus named Camille. The relationship was toxic and bad for Pia. Camille used Pia to gain notoriety from the Conte name. She pushed Pia, took advantage, then indulged her vices with sex and drugs. It was incredibly pleasurable but draining. Camille’s blood was especially addictive. Pia eventually broke it off, ending the cycle. The experience solidified her belief that relationships, effort, and trying only led to pain.
